Yashamaru in Naruto

Yashamaru was the elder brother of Karura, who died after giving birth to Gaara, the host of the One-Tailed Shukaku. The Fourth Kazekage assigned him to care for Gaara and raise him as his uncle. He tried to empathize with Gaara's lonely and painful life as a jinchuriki, and he thought that the sand that protected Gaara from harm manifested Karura's love for her son.

However, the Fourth Kazekage also ordered Yashamaru to secretly attack Gaara and test his control over Shukaku's power. Yashamaru agreed to do this, hoping to teach Gaara about the meaning of physical pain, emotional pain, and love. He wanted Gaara to understand that he was not alone and could still feel love despite being a jinchuriki.

One of the most tragic events in Gaara's life was the betrayal and death of his uncle, Yashamaru, who was also his caretaker. Yashamaru was a kind and gentle man who loved Gaara and tried to protect him from the hatred and fear of the villagers who saw him as a monster because of the One-Tailed Shukaku sealed inside him. Yashamaru also taught Gaara about the meaning of his name, which came from his mother Karura's wish for him to be a self-loving person who would cherish himself and others.

However, everything changed when Yashamaru was assigned a secret mission by the Fourth Kazekage, Gaara's biological father, to assassinate his own nephew. The Kazekage feared that Gaara's unstable power would endanger the village and wanted to get rid of him before he became a threat. Yashamaru reluctantly accepted the mission, hoping to end Gaara's suffering and free him from his cursed fate.

The mission went horribly wrong when Gaara unintentionally injured Yashamaru with his sand, which acted as a shield against any harm. Yashamaru, already wounded by Gaara's earlier rampage, was trapped by Gaara's Sand Binding Coffin technique, which crushed his bones and organs.

In his dying moments, Yashamaru decided to lie to Gaara and tell him that he hated him and was only pretending to care for him out of duty. He also told him that his mother despised him and named him after the word for "a self-loving carnage," which meant that he was destined to kill and be alone. Yashamaru then told Gaara that nobody would ever love him and then detonated a series of explosive tags hidden within his flack jacket in an attempt to take Gaara with him.

Yashamaru's cruel words and his suicide shattered Gaara's fragile psyche and caused him to become a sociopath who only cared about himself and his own existence. He also developed a deep hatred for the world and a desire to kill anyone who crossed his path. He lost all sense of compassion and empathy and became even more feared and isolated than before.

Years later, during the Fourth Shinobi World War, Gaara learned the truth about the mission he was given and that he had lied to him about his mother under direct orders from the Fourth Kazekage. He also learned that his mother loved him dearly and that her spirit was always with him, manifesting as the sand that protected him. Gaara realized he was not alone and had people who cared for him, such as Naruto Uzumaki, who became his friend and ally.

Yashamaru was a kind and loyal person who loved his sister Karura more than anything. He had to pretend to hate Gaara, his nephew because the Fourth Kazekage ordered him to. He actually cared for Gaara and taught him about love and pain. He was the only one who understood Gaara's situation and defended him from the villagers. He hated the Fourth Kazekage for killing his sister by putting Shukaku inside Gaara. He was an Anbu and followed the Kazekage's orders, even if it meant hurting Gaara.

Yashamaru looked a lot like his sister. He had light hair and skin and purple eyes. He sometimes looked like a girl. He usually wore a blue shirt, white belt, grey pants, and black shoes. He also wore a beige apron with his village's symbol on it. Sometimes, he wore bandages on his head. When he was an Anbu, he wore a special outfit that covered most of his face and body. He only showed his eyes.

Yashamaru could use wind chakra to make strong wind or sharp air. He could also make his knives faster and sharper with his wind chakra.

Yashamaru is a playable character in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Blazing, which was released on July 14, 2016.
