Konohagakure is the Hidden Leaf Village in Naruto, and its leader is known as the Hokage. Until now there have been seven Hokages elected in the history of Konoha. They were all very powerful and helped protect the village whenever it was in danger. The seven hokages are:
Hashirama Senju was the leader of Senju Clan and was one of the founder of the Konohagakure (Village Hidden in the Leaves) as well its First Hokage. He was also the mentor of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. Hashirama one of the reincarnations of Ashura Ōtsutsuki.
Hashirama was the eldest of the four sons. Hashirama and his brothers grew up on the battlefield waging constant war with the Senju's rivals: the Uchiha clan. During his infrequent downtime, Hashirama met a boy his age named Madara and the two quickly developed a friendly rivalry.
Hashirama did not approve of this practice of sending children to fight and die, as he believed that it would only increase the bitterness between the Senju and Uchiha, thus causing more deaths. After the deaths of two of his brothers, Hashirama and Tobirama decided a new shinobi system would need to be implemented to end the cycle of child deaths.
However, this system would require an alliance between the Senju and Uchiha. When they met in battle, Madara put an end to their friendship so that it would not cause any hindrance to their battle. Over the following years, Hashirama and Madara continued to meet in combat.
Hashirama could never bring himself to kill someone he still considered a friend, and Madara could never defeat Hashirama's superior abilities. Unable to find the resolve to kill his childhood friend, Hashirama tried to convince Madara to unite their two clans to make their childhood dreams a reality.
However, Madara was unwilling to accept this, after Tobirama killed his last brother, Izuna. Filled with grief, the two fought again but yet again, Madara lost. At Madara's suggestion, Hashirama offered to kill himself to achieve a peaceful resolution. As he was about to end his own life, Madara stopped him as he was moved by the gesture, and accepted peace.
The Senju, the Uchiha, and all their affiliated clans came together to find a village of peace, where children would never need to die in battle. Before his death, Hashirama passed the title of Hokage to Tobirama and instructed him not to mistreat the Uchiha.
Tobirama was renowned as one of the most powerful shinobi in history, earning praise from even his rivals. He was able to kill Izuna Uchiha — Madara Uchiha's brother and equal in both skills and power. Danzō Shimura stated that Tobirama's prowess was unmatched during his time as Hokage.
Tobirama was Hashirama's younger brother and he was the second Hokage. Hashirama appointed his brother to be his successor before his death and instructed him not to mistreat the Uchiha. As the Hokage, Tobirama made his village value their clans above anything else. For this, he created the Academy, Anbu, and the Chunin exams. For the Uchiha clan, he created the Konoha Police Force, but the only reason for doing this was to ensure that the Uchihas would invest their energy into something beneficial, rather than being chaotic, according to Tobirama.
Tobirama also did his best to establish a good and peaceful relationship with the other villages. Before dying in the war, he passed on the title of Hokage to Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Hiruzen Sarutobi was the Third Hokage of Konohagakure, a disciple of the village's two former Hokage and a formidable ninja revered as the “God of Shinobi ''. He was the teacher of Konoha's three legendary Sannin and his wisdom benefitted generations of Konoha shinobi during his lifetime.
Hiruzen was the son of Sasuke Sarutobi. He was a prodigy and trained under Hashirama Senju. At one point, Danzo became jealous of Hiruzen and started considering him his rival. During the First Shinobi War, Tobirama led a team consisting of Hiruzen, Homura, Koharu and Danzo. When Hiruzen volunteered to be a decoy for a suicidal cause, Tobirama was impressed by him and appointed him as the Third Hokage, before dying by being the decoy himself.
Once Hiruzen was Hokage, he appointed Danzo to create Root, a subdivision of Anbu - a ruthless organization created in order to balance things out. After getting married, he started leading his own team which consisted of Orochimaru, Tsunade and Jiraiya. He led his army through the Second and Third Shinobi Wars, and at the end of the war, he signed a peace treaty with Iwagakure. Hiruzen hoped that Orochimaru would be his successor, and he tried to save his student from going on the wrong path, but he failed. Hiruzen then selected Minato to succeed him and helped him transition into the role of Hokage.
After the Nine-Tails attack on the Hidden Leaf Village caused Minato's death, Hiruzen went back to the role of Hokage, keeping his promise to look after Naruto. Hiruzen did his best to peacefully sort out the accusations that were made against the Uchiha clan, saying that they were responsible for the Nine-Tails attack.
Minato Namikaze (波風ミナト, Namikaze Minato) was the Fourth Hokage of Konohagakure, although he was Lord Fourth, he also had the shortest reign of Hokage. He was famous in life for his speed, leading to the moniker of Yellow Flash of the Leaf (木ノ葉の黄色い閃光, Konoha no Kiiroi Senkō).
Minato Namikaze belonged to the Namikaze clan. Information about his birth parents is unknown. He joined the ninja academy for the sole purpose of earning the villagers’ respect and for becoming the Hokage. He was a natural prodigy as a ninja, the kind which appears only once in a generation. He was added to a genin team under the leadership of Jiraiya. Jiraiya took a special interest in Minato and took him on as his apprentice, teaching him many of his signature techniques.
Kushina Uzumaki was transferred to his class. Minato was immediately drawn to her due to her bright red hair which he found to be very beautiful. Years later after they graduated, Kushina was kidnapped. Konoha did not send their forces to retrieve her, and Minato went alone. He notices Kushina’s red hair which was left behind by her, to mark where they were taking her. Minato on his own went to rescue her from her kidnappers. Minato confessed his admiration for her hair and her strength, which caused Kushina to fall in love with him.
After proving himself as an accomplished and responsible Ninja, Minato was placed in charge of his team which consists of Rin Nohara, Obito Uchiha, and Kakashi Hatake. He was also told by the Third Hokage to help Kakashi overcome the bitterness that was caused by his father's death.
Minato even contributed a lot during the Third Great Shinobi War and due to his lightning-fast speed while fighting the others, he was also known as the Yellow Flash of the Leaf.
For his outstanding performance during the war, Minato was chosen to become the fourth Hokage. He also tried to help Kakashi (who was then a part of Anbu) to emerge from his darkness, by telling him to look after his wife Kushina during her pregnancy which would restore his value of life.
After the birth of Naruto on October 10th, Minato didn’t get time to be with his son as he had to fight the Nine Tailed beast who had attacked the village. After battling for a long time, Minato finally managed to seal half of the Nine Tailed beast inside Naruto and the other half inside himself. He, later on, died along with Kushina while protecting his son.
Tsunade is the granddaughter of Hashirama, and because Hashirama was the first Hokage, Tsunade was called "Princess" and was doted on by Hashirama when she was very young. It is said that she adopted her gambling habits from her grandfather.
After she graduated from the academy, Tsunade was placed under the leadership of Hiruzen Sarutobi in a team that also consisted of Orochimaru and Jiraiya. Tsunade was full of life and a believer. Both her younger brother, and her lover, wanted to become the Hokage, but she lost both of them during the Second Shinobi war.
Even though she had lost the people she loved, Tsunade continued fighting together with Orochimaru and Jiraiya during the Second Shinobi World War. During one such fight in Amegakure, they were the only three to survive an encounter with Hanzi, an accomplishment for which Hanzō dubbed them Konoha's "Legendary Sannin’.
Although Tsunade's actions are said to have won the war for Konoha, Tsunade was unable to prevent Dan's death, and her failure to stop his severe blood loss caused her to develop hemophobia (the fear of blood).
After the death of her loved ones, she lost her spirit of believing for a while. She therefore left Konoha, taking Shizune with her to train her as an apprentice. Due to her hemophobia, Tsunade retired from any direct involvement in medicine or combat and instead relied on Shizune for whenever the need came up.
However, that all changed when Tsunade met Naruto. The future Seventh Hokage of Konoha met Tsunade when he and Jiraiya had come searching for her, to ask her to become the Hokage. When she first met Naruto, he reminded her of her younger brother and of her lover.
There was a point where Naruto protects Tsunade during their fight with Kabuto and Orochimaru. After the fight Tsunade challenged Naruto to a fight, but instead of actually fighting him, she gave him her most cherished necklace and accepted the position of Hokage. Thus, Tsunade became the fifth Hokage of Konoha.
Kakashi was a prodigy in his time under Minato Namikaze along with Rin Nohara and Obito Uchiha. He was naturally talented and popular. After defeating Guy in the chunin exams, he became a chunin.
During the Third Shinobi War, Kakashi lost Rin and Obito and he became very depressed. He then joined Anbu and became a mindless killing machine. Minato wanted to help him and gave him a task of protecting a pregnant Kushina, which he did diligently.
In order to help his friend, Guy recommended Kakashi to the Third Hokage, to lead a genin team. Kakashi was thus the leader of a genin team consisting of Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura.
Kakashi became the 6th Hokage after Pain's attack on the village when Tsunade went into a coma temporarily. After the Fourth Great Shinobi War he became the Hokage permanently.
Naruto is generally a very simple minded, easy going, cheerful person. He often rushes things, and misses obvious things such as Hinata's constant shyness around him. In the beginning of the series, Naruto is very fun loving, often pulling pranks on fellow villagers. This usually ends in a scolding from Iruka Umino.
Naruto Uzumaki was the son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki. His parents died during the Nine-Tails attack, after which he was neglected by the village and was considered as an outcast. It was his goal to become the village's Hokage one day.
Over time, Naruto earned the respect of the people, especially after Pain's attack. He also made a lot of contributions during the Fourth Great Shinobi War.
