Benga’s Background

Mujina Bandits Arc

Upon the entrance of new captives, Benga lectured them on the regulations of Hozuki Castle. He was hostile to Boruto Uzumaki despite his enthusiasm in learning the regulations and beat him when he showed worry about Haie, who had attempted to escape and therefore activated Mujo’s branding. Later, Sarada, a journalism student conducting a study on the jail, was welcomed by him.

He provided her with information, expressed his ideas, and walked her through the various parts of the castle.Later, while still in the hospital wing, after being attacked by another prisoner, Kokuri was transferred to a more secure cell by Mujo. Benga, the commander of the jail, had the last word in the situation, as Mujo's role as "lord" of the castle was more of a ceremonial one.

He rejected the notion, certain that inmates cannot receive preferential treatment. In reality, Tsukiyo had paid Benga to make sure Kokuri had as little protection as possible in order to assure his death. Muj later learned that Benga had a long history of taking bribes within the prison. By using this power, Muj was able to seize control of the jail and move Kokuri to Boruto and Mitsuki's cell.

Benga regretted his recent bad luck when he was shocked to find that one of the medical staff had misplaced his key pass, making a prisoner potentially in possession of it. Benga ordered his men to thoroughly search the facility. They eventually learned that Arai had taken it when Boruto was led to the hospital wing.

Benga approached Mujo about his worries over the sudden closeness between Kokuri and Boruto after Arai was taken into custody. However, Mujo warned him not to explore this further since the inmates would retaliate violently against him.

Later, Tsukiyo made the request to send Kokuri to Hozuki Castle #2, where there were several Mujina Bandits who could quickly put the traitor to death. Tsukiyo offered to give Benga the money Kokuri had stolen, but regretfully said he lacked the power to do so. Later, after discovering that Kamata had been lying to his ailing sister about his whereabouts and using money from illegal gambling to assist her, Benga took Kamata's money and threatened to tell his sister the truth about his prison record if he didn't cooperate.

He also promised Kamata that if he cooperated, he would see his sister once again. Benga was furious when Kamata stated he had not learnt anything. Benga brutalised the prisoner in his rage and ordered that he be placed in solitary confinement while extending his sentence.

After that, Mujo summoned Kamata. Following the warden's disclosure of Kusagakure's parole decision for Kokuri, Mujo also disclosed that she had learnt about Benga's abuse of power to extend the sentences of several convicts and their terrible treatment. Mujo promptly let him go after deciding he had no business working at a correctional facility.

Mujo's heart ailment, though, flared up. Realising his good fortune, Benga stole Muj's medication and smugly watched Mujo pass out. Mujo, who was now unable to work due to illness, had never formally terminated Benga, therefore Benga now had complete control over the jail. He acted on Tsukiyo's previous proposal, revoked Kokuri's parole, and started the formal transportation of the prisoner to the second location.

Benga became alarmed when the waterline malfunctioned unexpectedly. He addressed Doragu after discovering that Boruto had inquired about the many ships that visit the jail, and what was even more worrisome was that Sarada was conversing with Tsukiyo. Later, when Benga confronted her, she admitted to him that she was well aware of his nefarious activities at the jail.

He used his Fire Release to assault her because he saw her as a danger to his newly acquired status. She was able to effortlessly avoid his blows, but one of them struck a pipeline, which burst and sent Sarada into a hole.

He looked through her stuff and discovered her notes, which laid out their escape strategy and showed she had been working with Boruto, Mitsuki, and Kokuri. By depleting the old water tank, Benga ruined their strategy. He learned that the Boruto in his cell was a shadow clone, and the convicts became upset when they learned about a breakout.

In order to stop Haie from getting assistance from Kusagakure, he assaulted him. He also sent out a two-headed, fire-breathing dog to find the fugitives. After being vanquished, Tsukiyo persuaded him to take down his Heavenly Prison so that he could deal with the runaways, but he killed Benga first before carrying out his own scheme. Guards soon after found his body, which prompted them to start aggressively looking for the escapees.

Benga’s Personality

Benga from Naruto.
Still from the anime.

Benga was a cold-blooded person who detested academic pursuits and believed that the only effective way to uphold order was by force. Despite being Muj's subordinate, he regarded him with contempt, believing that his optimism about the idea of rehabilitation made him kind towards the convicts. He showed no sympathy for the convicts, treated them with a no-nonsense demeanour, and was downright impolite and nasty.

However, he had also shown himself to be dishonest, having demanded bribes and manipulated the sentences of prisoners. He was frequently willing to accept cash for special favours from the inmates whose rehabilitation was his responsibility. He was also an openly ambitious man who had no allegiance to anybody, constantly misusing his power to torture the inmates.

Benga was prepared to employ any strategy to achieve his objectives, even if it meant hurting his own supporters.Benga's selfish and corrupt nature also made him a hypocrite who didn't honour deals. He was also a very careless individual who frequently drank alcohol and left his office in a disorganised state.

Benga’s Appearance

Benga is a tall, fat man who has slicked back black hair and thick sideburns. He is always seen wearing a pair of black sunglasses. He has distinct wrinkles on his face around and under his nose and eyes. He is seen wearing a beige coloured jacket with matching pants.

Benga’s Abilities

Benga possessed proficiency in ninjutsu and could use Fire Release. By executing the required hand seals, he was able to ignite the parole order for Kokuri. He had the ability to manage a lengthy line of fire like a whip, deliver a reasonably potent blast at his foe, and engulf his hand in flames to strengthen his assaults.

He could use the Fire Release: Heavenly Prison, which allowed him to activate a target's seals and fully free them, as the chief official of Hozuki Castle. As the warden, he had access to the summon, a two-headed, fire-breathing dog that was employed to track down prisoners who tried to escape.
