Dread Lion’s Background

Very little is known about the Dread Lion, as it was just introduced in a filler episode of Naruto Shippuden and it does not play much of a role in the main plot of the series. Also, the Dread Lion is just a part of the Naruto Shippuden anime and does not appear or receive any mentions in the manga, making it a non-canon character in the series.

Dread Lion originally debuted in episode 189 of the Naruto Shippuden anime. At some point in Itachi and Sasuke’s childhood, Itachi developed a game for Sasuke where he had to search for various cats and get their paw prints for the Paw Encyclopedia. At some point, Sasuke found the Dread Lion, a task assigned to him by Itachi, to get its paw print for his Paw Encyclopedia.

As Sasuke cornered the lion to get its paw print, it seemed that the giant lion began begging for his life. Since Dread Lion has not been seen since this incident, it is hard to determine whether it is dead or alive.
