Gatsu appeared in Naruto episode: 159, "The Bounty Hunter from the Wilderness." Lady Tsunade (the Fifth Hokage of Konoha Village) gave Naruto Uzumaki, Hinata Hyuga and Kiba Inuzuka a mission to capture Gosunkugi because he stole a precious item from the Land of Tea Daimyo. He was sitting in a pub to capture Michizo Manaka, who had a bounty on his head but soon, Michizo Manaka tried to take Naruto's wallet. Sazanami defeated him, gave the bounty price to the pub owner and said sorry to Gatsu since he got Michizo.

When Sazanami got injured by Gosunkugi, Konoha’s genin took him to shelter and tried to heal him. Gatsu came to the shelter to take Sazanami because he also had a bounty on his head but Naruto, Kiba, and Hinata were able to defeat him, which made Gatsu run away. Later, Sazanami caught Gosunkugi with the help of Konoha’s genin but then Gatsu, with government personnel, caught Gosunkugi and Sazanami.

There was a charge on Sazanami that he had killed a family but actually, it was Gosunkugi who did that. When Sazanami reached the house, the people thought it was he who did that, but then Gatsu cleared it and asked Sazanami to join him as a bounty hunter.
