When Orochimaru’s body was irreparably wounded, Kabuto Yakushi ordered Gen’yūmaru and many other inmates to battle to the death, with the understanding that the victor would be released. When he wins, Orochimaru’s appearance into the arena creates the terrifying illusion of a monstrous snake poised to swallow him, and Gen’yūmaru learns that his body will be Orochimaru’s next vessel.
Knowing there was nothing he could do to avoid his fate, Gen’yūmaru used the desire granted to him by Orochimaru to request that his clan mates who were imprisoned should be set free. His body was later taken over.
After three years, Gen’yūmaru’s body starts rejecting Orochimaru, and he tries to seize Sasuke Uchiha’s body. But Sasuke battled a severely weakened Orochimaru, and thus, the latter abandoned Gen’yūmaru’s body. His soul was later glimpsed in Orochimaru’s consciousness along with other prior hosts.
Gen’yūmaru was shown to be a solid and self-assured person. When Orochimaru approached him with the purpose of taking over his body, Gen’yūmaru used the last wish offered to him to set his clan members free.
Gen’yūmaru had neck-length white hair that was disheveled, a powerful chin, and dark purple eyes that transformed into amber snake-like slits when Orochimaru gained control over his body. He wore black wristbands with a wide purple rope wrapped over his chest over a tan shirt and black trousers.
Gen’yūmaru was only shown in battle once and it was quite hazy, but the fact that he was chosen as Orochimaru’s host speaks well of his prospective skills. Furthermore, despite the fact that he lacked weapons, he was shown severing his opponent’s head and sending it flying across the room.
Even after his body was taken over, Gen’yūmaru’s body continued to reject Orochimaru which forced the latter to attempt to switch bodies sooner.
