Gozu in Naruto

Gozu was dying of thirst and hunger at some point in the past. Guren rescued him by handing him a ladle of water. While not enough to quench his hunger, it was sufficient to keep him alive.

Sometime later, Gozu became Guren’s subordinate after the selection war held by Guren and Kabuto Yakushi in the hideout. Gozu and other men of Team Guren were instructed by her to eliminate Team 8 and Kakashi Hatake.

Gozu was sent first to face off against Kakashi and pull him away. He rapidly demonstrated his enormous strength, which kept Kakashi on his toes. When Kakashi’s abilities proved too much for him, he used his trump card to further change his physique, giving him even more speed and strength. In the end, he barely survived his encounter with Kakashi and got himself injured on his arm. He was forced to escape.

After his arms healed, he reappeared and watched Guren fight Team 8. He is the first to assist Guren when her crystal barrier was damaged. When Kabuto returns to rescue Yūkimaru, Gozu joins them and is assigned to row the boat. He soon finds himself in the presence of the Three-Tails, thanks to the combined force of Guren and Yūkimaru.

After Kabuto orders Guren to confine the beast, Gozu rushes to her aid, allowing her to briefly trap it. The Three-Tails then unleashed a massive tidal wave, throwing Gozu away from his crew. He survives and washes up on the beach with Rinji and the others. His first thought is to find Guren, so he hurries off to look for her. He later fights Sai and gets tied up by Sai’s ink technique.

He senses Guren’s chakra and rushes to her aid to save her from Kakashi where he is apparently killed after being struck by Kakashi’s Lightning Blade.

Later, Gozu is shown alive in the mud at the bottom of the lake after Guren sacrifices herself to save Yūkimaru. He admires her because she was the only one who treated him kindly at Orochimaru’s lair and provided him with water when he was dying. They exit the lake and the two later depart with Yūkimaru.

After the Fourth Shinobi World War, Gozu was spotted at the Konoha entrance with Guren and Yūkimaru.

Gozu is quiet and unsociable, making people wonder what he is thinking, yet his battle skills are undeniably adept. He prefers fighting alone and focuses on taijutsu and physical power.

He has a great deal of affection towards Guren and was her most devoted subordinate, even proclaiming, “I will accompany you no matter where you go.” He lacked trust in other members of his squad.

Gozu has short slicked combed back brown hair, no eyebrows and gray colored eyes. He also has sharp teeth and long arms reaching down to his knees.

Nature Transformation

Gozu has the ability to perform the Earth Release nature transformation. He can use it to fire large chunks of mud at an enemy to slow them down. He can even convert his body into mud, allowing him to build improvised weapons and fire a volley of small mud shots in all directions. Most physical attacks will be ineffective while in this phase. He can also burrow at fast rates through the ground by transforming it into sand with chakra.

Physical Prowess

Gozu possesses great raw strength, capable of temporarily stopping the Three-Tails by seizing one of its tails. Since his body was transformed by Orochimaru, he can stretch his arms and legs in a way comparable to the Akimichi clan’s Partial Multi-Size Technique to boost the sheer force of his limbs. He could also condense his shape for even faster speeds.
