Guren in Naruto

Guren belongs to a small village where she was shunned by her fellow villagers for her unique powers. Later, Orochimaru, intrigued with her power, recruited her after destroying her village.

At some point, she was ordered to destroy a certain town to test her potential. However, she passed out due to overusing her powers. When she woke up, she found herself to have been healed by a woman, who happened to be Yūkimaru’s mother. Later, Guren returned to Orochimaru but was forced to kill Yūkimaru’s mother in order to keep his approval.

Over time, Guren became an important asset for Orochimaru and one of the most powerful and loyal subordinates. She was also a choice to be Orochimaru’s vessel until Sasuke joined him.

Much later, Guren is summoned by Orochimaru to aid him in his final preparations for his plan. She attacked Kabuto when he went to fetch her and stated that she wanted to make sure he was worthy of being Orochimaru’s right-hand man.

She had hundreds of Orochimaru’s prisoners fight to the death in the hideout, and picked the final survivors to form a team. She killed sixteen of them herself when they tried to rebel.

She is offered a chance of being Orochimaru’s next vessel after she disapproved of Sasuke being the right choice. She and Yūkimaru are sent to a certain area, where the latter gets sick and Guren is forced to look after his recovery. She sympathized with him when she found out that he grew up alone. She gifted the boy a crystallized flower which would not wither as long as she lives. Later, she leaves Yūkimaru to go to the hideout with her team and goes on her way to handle Team Kurenai.

Guren prepares for their arrival as her men fight Team Kurenai and Kakashi. She traps the Konoha ninja in a trap and orders her men to fall back. She encases Hinata in a crystal and uses her as leverage. Soon after, Team Yamato arrives and breaks through her crystal barrier and subsequently rescues Hinata. She returns to the hideout to plan her next move but Kabuto arrives and instructs them with another plan.

Guren and her men along with Kabuto head out to the lake to awaken the Three-Tails. She tries to restrain it but falls short in strength against the beast, while hugging Yūkimaru the entire time. She spends the last of her chakra to save Yūkimaru and the others, and later wakes up to find herself under Yūkimaru’s care. Yūkimaru himself is sick and suspects that it was due to Kabuto’s pills.

Guren soon detects Naruto and fights with him; they are both stopped by Yūkimaru. At that moment, Guren questions her own path after hearing Naruto’s perception of Orochimaru.

She escapes with Yūkimaru and prepares with her team for the final battle against the Konoha ninja and to settle things with Naruto. She is defeated and subdued, but Gozu sacrifices himself to help her escape. When she flees, Naruto persuades her and shares his intentions about freeing Yūkimaru from her. Guren assumed that Naruto’s interest in Yūkimaru is only for his connection to the Three-Tails.

She returns to Yūkimaru and realizes that it was she who killed Yūkimaru’s mother when she hears him playing a grass- whistle. She begs Kabuto to not put Yūkimaru under any further agony and offers herself to his services in stopping the Konoha-nin from sealing away the Three-Tails.

Guren is successful initially but is attacked by the Three-Tails and is ultimately saved by Yūkimaru’s interference. Guren decided to do everything to protect Yūkimaru to atone for her sin of killing his mother. Soon after, Guren and Naruto try attacking the Three-Tails but both get swallowed inside it.

Inside the beast’s belly, Guren tries to resume her fight with Naruto but he instead tends to her wounds. They both argue about where Yūkimaru truly belongs and Guren accuses Konoha of wanting to trap the Three-Tails for their own ambitions. She learns about Naruto being the Nine-Tails vessel, something that gave him a lot of suffering since his birth from his fellow Konoha ninja. Guren finally sees Naruto’s genuine concern for Yūkimaru’s well-being upon learning of his refusal to use his demon’s power in fear of hurting his loved ones.

She owns up to her mistake for Yūkimaru’s loneliness and admits that Yūkimaru doesn’t belong with Orochimaru.

They soon break free from the Three-Tails’ belly and arrive in time to save Yūkimaru from Kabuto in Rinji’s disguise. Kabuto reveals the truth about Guren to Yūkimaru hoping to turn him against her, but to her surprise, Yūkimaru forgives her.

Guren escapes with Yūkimaru but they are persuaded by Rinji’s reanimated body. She attempted to trap Rin in crystal but he shattered it, using his supersonic abilities and subsequently stopped her from releasing any more crystals.

She went to stop Rinji from using his techniques and crystallized herself and Rinji, to protect Yūkimaru and subsequently fell into the water.

Later, Gozu saves her stating that he looked up to her ever since she saved his life long ago. Yūkimaru later joined them and they all left together.

Guren, Yūkimaru and Gozu were seen among the crowd outside the entrance of Konoha after the Fourth Shinobi World War concluded.

Guren has been very mysterious, despite her loyalty to Orochimaru, she prefers to remain to herself. She is projected to be a remorseless and sadistic person during her introduction.

She also takes pride in herself for her unique abilities and gets embarrassed when she is helped by others.

Her personality develops into becoming more kind and protective after meeting Yūkimaru. She redeems herself after Yūkimaru’s forgiveness over the death of his mother and decides to put her life on the line to save the boy.

Guren has fair skin, dark eyes and light blue hair which she wears in a spiky ponytail with long strands framing her face.

She wears red lipstick, a green dress with a long sleeve on the left and a short one on the right, a red turtleneck with a white fluffy collar and brown gloves. Underneath, she wears a one piece red suit. She adorns calf-length brown sandals boots as her footwear.

Guren is an extremely powerful kunoichi. She managed to put up a fight against the Three-Tails and subdued it temporarily. She has the ability to use her life energy to access extra chakra reserves, allowing her to battle at full strength for a short period of time.

Guren has good senses and is a sharp observer. She is skilled at noticing her enemy’s flaws and creating distractions.

Taijutsu

Guren’s taijutsu skills are great enough to fight on even grounds against the most powerful shinobi. She managed to put up a fight against Kakashi, dodging multiple Rasengan, and fought Lee and Tenten simultaneously.

Nature Transformation

Guren is skilled in the Crystal Release, a unique form of ninjutsu under her possession. She made it clear that even the Sharingan could not reproduce it, despite the fact that it is believed to involve an Earth Release usage.

Guren has the ability to summon and freely manipulate her crystal creations, allowing her to make distinctive snowflake-patterned shuriken or to crush walls.

She is even capable of riding and flying on her crystalised creations. Her most lethal attack of Crystal Release is an attack that can crystallize her enemies and physical matter at a molecular level, causing them to shatter into crystalline dust as a result.

She has demonstrated the ability to use one-handed seals similar to Haku’s, as well as form a crystal ball for long-distance observation.

Even the Wood Release was unable to pierce this force, which suggests that its density is quite great.

“Heh heh, I love the scent of blood.”

(To Naruto) “Well, what about you guys?! You discovered Yūkimaru’s powers and now you want him! After all, taking the Three-Tails means that Konoha will be in possession of enormous military power?”

(To Naruto about Sasuke) “I met him at Lord Orochimaru’s base. He’s quite the scary one.”

(To Naruto) “As you said, I hurt Yūkimaru’s soul in a way that I could never make amends. I have no right to protect him. It’s over for me! But I will protect you, even if it costs me my life!”

(To Naruto about Yūkimaru) “He is the place to which I can return!”
