Hisen in Naruto

Very little is known about Hisen as his past is still shrouded in mystery. Almost nothing is known about his childhood or lineage other than the fact that Hisen was the father of Shibuki and the former leader of Takigakure who sacrificed his life protecting the village.

In the Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village! OVA, it was revealed that as the leader of the village, Hisen led the village to prosperity for many years. He spent his life protecting the village from foreign enemies and working for the welfare of his village. At some point, Takigakure was attacked by foreign powers, and to protect the village from its enemies, Hisen drank the Hero Water, enhancing his power several folds for a short timespan and reducing his lifespan in the process. At the end of the battle, he successfully protected the village but the victory came at the cost of his own life. The strength he gained from the Hero Water helped him achieve victory but shortened his lifespan, resulting in premature death. After his death, his son Shibuki succeeded him as the new leader of Takigakure.

Hisen was a kind and loyal man who cared deeply about the safety and well-being of Takigakure and its citizens. He sacrificed his life without a second thought, to protect Takigakure from foreign enemies.

Hisen was a middle-aged man with small black eyes and short, smooth brown hair that was greying on the outside, leaving brown hair on top of his head. His hair draped over either side of his forehead, and he had brown sideburns in addition to a black Takigakure forehead protector. He also had a goatee that was small and brown. Additionally, he wore a loose, short-sleeved dark shirt with mesh armor underneath.

Hisen was a skilled shinobi. He possessed Water Release chakra nature and excelled in Water Release: Lotus Light Rupture (novel only), giving him the ability to create razor-sharp lotus petal-shaped weapons out of water capable of dealing fatal damage. He had also mastered the Summoning Technique, had Ryurimaru as his summoning, and was skilled enough to transform it into a golden dragon.

By consuming the Hero Water, Hisen could amplify his strength and enhance his abilities several folds at the cost of his lifespan, which resulted in his premature death.

Apart from the OVA, Hisen also appears in the light novel with the same title as the OVA, “Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village!”
