Isobu’s Background

Hagoromo created Isobu and the other tailed beasts. It splits the energy of a powerful Ten-Tail into Nine-Tailed Beasts, and Isobu is one of those Tailed Beasts. Hagoromo told the tailed beasts that they were connected and would be reunited one day. In the anime, Hagoromo arranged for Isobu to be kept safe in a Land of Water region part.

During the First Shinobi World War, Hashirama Senju captured eight-tailed beasts. To establish friendly relations and maintain a balance of power among the newly formed ninja villages, he sold two of these tailed beasts, Isobu and Saiken, to the village of Kirigakure during a gathering of the Five Kage.

Decades later, in a complicated plan, the village of Kirigakure was influenced by a Madara Uchiha. They tried to put an Isobu in Rin Nohara from the village of Konohagakure. They wanted to send Rin back to her village secretly, and then release Isobu to cause chaos in Konoha.

But this plan failed because Rin knew about it. She decided to end her own life by asking her friend Kakashi Hatake to do it, preventing their evil plan from working.

Later, Isobu was revived and sealed inside another ninja called Yagura, who became the Fourth Mizukage. Yagura was able to control and work together with Isobu. However, he was put under a powerful illusion by Obito Uchiha and forced to act as the Mizukage until his death, when the illusion was broken. Isobu was brought back to life again, but it wasn't sealed into another person.

Orochimaru's Attempt:

In the anime, Orochimaru, a notorious rogue ninja, wanted control over the Three-Tails. He sent Kabuto and Team Guren on a mission to take a boy named Yūkimaru to a lake. There, Kabuto forced Yukimaru to release his chakra, which made the Three-Tails start to appear. With the help of Guren, they tried to capture the beast, but their efforts failed. The Three-Tails created a massive tidal wave to repel them.

Konoha's Effort

During this part of the story, Konohagakure's ninja made an attempt to seal the Three-Tails. They used a special barrier to trap the beast in its own dimension. However, their efforts were disrupted by Guren, causing the Three-Tails to attack. Yūkimaru managed to calm the beast temporarily, but it went on a rampage.

Guren and Naruto stepped in to help Yūkimaru, but they got swallowed by the Three-Tails. With the help of their allies, they managed to escape.

Tobi and Deidara's Encounter

Tobi and Deidara, members of the Akatsuki, confronted the Three-Tails, a dangerous beast. At the same time, Naruto Uzumaki was training in Wind Release jutsu. The Three-Tails started chasing Tobi, and Deidara tried to capture it using explosive clay in the form of a fish. What happened after this part of the battle is unknown.

After Son Goku resealed into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. Tobi forces Yagura, the host of the Three-Tails, to fully transform. This event triggers a confrontation between the tailed beasts, shinobi forces, and Naruto.

As the opposing tailed beasts prepare to attack the shinobi, Naruto, who has grown stronger and can now control the Nine-Tails, intervenes to prevent further destruction. His actions showcase his improved abilities and cooperation with his tailed beast. The battle intensifies as the Three-Tails evades Naruto's attacks, leading to a standoff with the Six-Tails and the Eight-Tails.

When the tailed beasts, including the Three-Tails, unleash a powerful attack known as the Tailed Beast Ball. Naruto and the Nine-Tails respond with their own Tailed Beast Ball to counter it to save themselves.

Freeing the Tailed Beasts

The tailed beasts were freed from the control of Obito Uchiha, who had been manipulating them. They joined the fight against the Ten-Tails, a powerful enemy. This was a significant turning point in the war.

Tailed Beast Reunion

Inside Naruto's mind, the tailed beasts, including the Three-Tails, spoke with him and the spirit of Hagoromo Otsutsuki. They discussed their belief that Naruto was the one mentioned in a prophecy.

Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki

Isobu, the Three-Tails, and other tailed beasts gathered when the Ten-Tails, a powerful creature, looked at Naruto. This caused the Ten-Tails to evolve further. Thanks to the teamwork of the Allied Shinobi Forces, Isobu and the other tailed beasts were freed from Obito.

Tailed Beasts vs. Madara

When Madara tried to attack the tailed beasts, Shukaku and Gaara used sand to restrain him. The tailed beasts worked together to attack Madara, and Shukaku and Gaara used a special seal. However, Madara escaped using his powerful abilities.

Later, he summoned a statue and used it to repel the tailed beasts, chaining and sealing them back into the statue.

Tailed Beast Reunion

Isobu's chakra, which was transferred to Naruto earlier, and other tailed beasts appeared in Naruto's mind. They spoke with Naruto and the spirit of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, sharing their belief that Naruto was the prophesied child.

Kaguya's Threat

Kaguya Otsutsuki, a powerful and ancient enemy, became a threat to the ninja world. The tailed beasts, including the Three-Tails, helped Naruto and Sasuke in the battle against Kaguya. They shared their power with Naruto and Sasuke, which was essential in defeating Kaguya.

Sasuke's Intentions

After the battle, Sasuke revealed his intentions to change the ninja world drastically. He planned to remove the current system and eliminate the tailed beasts. He sealed the Three-Tails and other tailed beasts into a powerful jutsu.

New Era - One-Tail Escort Arc

In this arc, Urashiki Otsutsuki targeted the tailed beasts, including the Three-Tails, for their chakra. Naruto tried to organize a meeting with them, but some tailed beasts were afraid of being captured again and refused to attend.

Kawaki Arc

In the anime, Isobu, the Three-Tails, sensed the loss of Kurama's chakra after it sacrificed itself in the battle against Isshiki Otsutsuki.

In Other Media

Video Games

Isobu shows up as a tough enemy in games like "Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm" and "Naruto: Rise of a Ninja." There's also a fake version of Isobu players can battle in "Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive." For those that want to play as Isobu, they can do so as well! In some games like the "Ultimate Ninja" series, where players can choose Utakata and transform it into Saiken.

Gamers can play as Isobu in both its small and big forms in some games, but in others like "Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution" and "Ultimate Ninja Storm 4," you can only be the big version of Saiken.

Isobu's role in "Naruto: The Last" movie

In the movie, Isobu and the other tailed beasts are targeted by a powerful antagonist named Toneri Otsutsuki. Toneri plans to capture the tailed beasts and use their chakra to power the "Tenseigan," a doomsday device. Naruto and his friends must work together to stop Toneri's plans and save the world.

Isobu and the other tailed beasts play a pivotal role in the final battle against Toneri. They combine their powers to assist Naruto in confronting the antagonist and preventing the catastrophic plan from being realized. The movie highlights the tailed beasts' willingness to cooperate with humans and the significance of their abilities in protecting the ninja world. It also showcases the growth of the relationship between Naruto and the tailed beasts, including Saiken, as they unite to face a common threat.

Isobu’s Personality

Isobu, the Three-Tails, has a gentle and polite personality. It speaks timidly, using words like "Boku," which is often used by young boys. This suggests that Isobu is not as rude or outspoken as some of the other tailed beasts. Yagura, the host of Isobu, had a strong bond with it.

They were friends and worked well together. This shows that Isobu is likely a kind and cooperative-tailed beast, which differs from some more challenging and aggressive-tailed beasts. Isobu's personality reflects its ability to get along with its jinchuriki (host) and work harmoniously with them.

Isobu’s Appearance

Isobu has arms and hands that look a bit like a human's, but it doesn't have hind legs. Its face is hidden between a big forehead and a lower jaw, both of which also have spikes. Isobu's eyes are red with crimson pupils, though in the anime, they appear red with yellow pupils.

Isobu, the Three-Tails, looks like a big turtle with a twist. Its shell resembles that of a crab and is covered in pointy spikes. It has three long, shrimp-like tails. Under its shell, you can see red, muscle-like stuff. One of its eyes is always closed, and some characters in the series suggest this might be because the eyes are the only soft and vulnerable parts of its heavily armored body.

Back in the time of the Sage of Six Paths, Isobu looked the same but was smaller and had shorter spikes, even though it was still way bigger than the Sage himself.
