Due to lack of information about Isono, it is unknown where Isono is from but in the anime, it is seen that he only appeared in two episodes, where most of the time he was seen eating. He appeared in Naruto Shippuden episode: 309, “The A-Rank Mission: Food Fight!”

In this episode, Naruto went into a flashback when he saw Reincarnated Tatewaki. Lady Tsunade (Fifth Hokage) gave them a B-rank mission which turned into A rank after the Akatsuki invaded. In the mission, Team Asuma (Choji, Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka) and Naruto had to kidnap Shu (Lord) from the Land of This, who kept him as a hostage because of the treaty they signed with the Land of This. Now, Land of This wants to have an alliance with Land of Fire for support. To do that, the Land of That wanted to bring back Shu, who is the son of the Daimyo of the Land of That.

Shikamaru made the plan to let Choji and Naruto enter the food contest and made sure that Choji came second so they could kidnap Shu. Isono also took part in the Food eating contest and in the first round, he won it easily, but in the third and final round, he was about to come second as Choji forgot about the mission objective. He was nearly on the verge of winning the final round, but then Shikamaru used his shadow possession jutsu to stop Choji from taking the last bite and because of that, Isono won the contest.

Team Asuma and Naruto were able to kidnap Shu and the next day, when he wanted to explore different types of food with Team Asuma, they saw Isono having another Rice cake eating competition against Tamao, who came third in the food competition earlier. Isono joined Team Asuma and Shu to explore the food in town and later, it was seen that Choji was pushing Isono and Tamao out of the ramen shop.

Isono is a proud and determined food-eating competitor. He is also humble and nice as he appreciated Choji's efforts in the food-eating competition.

Isono looks like an old man who has no hair on the crown area of his head and has just side hair. He wears a black coat with a green t-shirt and blue trousers. He has thick black eyebrows.

Isono is a great food eater and in round three, in the BBQ challenge, he showed his two-hand eating technique where with one hand, he was grilling the meat and with another, he was eating.
