The details of Kokage's past are rather mysterious and very little is known about his upbringing or his skills. In the anime, he only made a few brief appearances.

Kokage made his first appearance in the series in episode 159 of the Naruto Shippuden anime in the Pain’s Assault Arc. In the arc, along with a small group of shinobi (Choji Akimichi, Choza Akimichi, Shito Akimichi, Saisu Kamano, and Tessen Togeito), Kokage assisted Kakashi Hatake in his confrontation with Deva Path (Tendo Pain), the leader of the Six Paths of Pain. He and his allies simultaneously attacked Tendo Pain from four directions, but they were quickly beaten back by Pain’s Shinra Tensei (Almighty Push).

Kokage has not appeared since this incident; thus, his absence makes it impossible to say whether he is dead or alive. He is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information comes to light indicating otherwise.

Kokage had a limited appearance in the series, so not much is known about him and he never had the opportunity to display his personality.

Kokage is a young man with short brown hair and black eyes with a purple-colored tattoo on his left cheek. Kogake possesses a Wind Release chakra nature and excels in wind-release-based techniques. In his limited appearance, Kokage used Wind Release: Great Breakthrough jutsu during his fight against Tendo Pain. He can also use Wind Release: Breakthrough jutsu.

Additionally, the Yanagikage clan specializes in research on concealed weapons and how to use them efficiently. It is stated that the kunai Kokage throws from his mouth are more deadly than the kunai thrown from his hands.
