Kunugi Mokume is a fictional character in the popular manga and its anime adaptation, the Naruto series, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto.

The details of Kunugi's past are rather mysterious and very little is known about his upbringing or his skills. In the anime, he only made a few brief appearances.
Kunugi made his first appearance in the series in episode 91 of the Naruto anime, titled “Inheritance! The Necklace of Death!”, in the Search for Tsunade Arc. In the arc, it was revealed that during the time of the Second Great Shinobi War, Kunugi was in a team consisting of himself, Tsunade Senju, Dan Kato, and another unnamed Konoha shinobi.
Unfortunately, Dan was fatally injured in the course of their mission. Tsunade was trying to save Dan’s life with her medical ninjutsu but Kunugi realized that Dan’s injuries were far too severe with many of his vital organs injured and he had suffered extreme blood loss.
Thus it was impossible to save him, even with Tsunade’s skill, one of Konoha’s sannin. Later, he told Tsunade to stop her efforts to save Dan as he had already passed away and consoled her as she had a mental breakdown after failing to save Dan’s life.
Kunugi has not appeared since this incident; thus, his absence makes it impossible to say whether he is dead or alive. He is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information comes to light indicating otherwise.
Kunugi had a limited appearance in the series and didn’t have the opportunity to express his individuality. However, it is stated that is a responsible adult and would stop other from doing pointless things.
Kunugi is a middle-aged man who has dark eyes, and shoulder-length hair that is hidden by his bandanna-style Konoha forehead protector, with the exception of two bangs that frame either side of his face. He is dressed as a Konoha shinobi would normally be, complete with a flak jacket with a dark outfit underneath and shinobi sandals.
Due to his limited appearance in the series, Kunugi never had the opportunity to showcase his abilities. Nonetheless, Kunugi is a jonin of Konoha and surely possesses remarkable skills. Unfortunately, the extent of his abilities is unknown.
