The Hidden Grass Village, Kusagakure, is a hidden village in a less known unnamed country. Not much is known about this village. Kusagakure was first mentioned during the Chunin Exams Arc in the original Naruto series. Kusagakure sent its eligible genins to participate in the ongoing chunin exams. With this, it can be deduced that Kusagakure is on good terms with Konohagakure (Village Hidden in the Leaves), if not allied with it.

Throughout the course of the Naruto series, Kusagakure was displayed on many occasions, but still, the name of the country it is located in is still unknown. Based on the limited visual appearances it had, it can be stated that Kusagakure is located in a well-forested, lush green land, filled with giant mushrooms, bamboos, deep ravines and rivers.

Due to Kusagakure's proficiency in diplomacy, they are able to anticipate other nations' moves and stay one step ahead of them. In a similar way, they examine techniques hailing from different villages. Others find reading the shinobi from the Hidden Grass Village difficult because of these characteristics. This led Kusagakure to be regarded as a formidable hidden village and a force to be reckoned with.

In the events of a brutal war known as the Third Great Shinobi War, Iwagakure, popularly known as the Village Hidden in the Stones, invaded Kusagakure. Kusagakure was then used as an important front between Iwagakure and Konohagakure. At some point, about a decade after this incident, Orochimaru, one of Konoha’s three legendary sannin, built a hideout somewhere in the country of Kusagakure. Following the Fourth Shinobi World War, Kusagakure was approached and given the chance to join the Shinobi Union, which succeeded the Allied Shinobi Forces and was made up of participating secret villages led by the Five Kage.
