Mokume Arai’s Background

The details of Mokume's past are rather mysterious as very little is known about his upbringing. In the anime, he was only mentioned and never made any appearances. Additionally, he is just a part of the Boruto anime and does not appear or receive any mentions in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga, making him a non-canon, filler character in the series.

Mokume made his anime debut, albeit mentioned, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations in episode 177, "The Iron Wall's Sensing System." In the episode, it was revealed that Mokume was dropped on the Thunder Train station by a co-worker of his a day before the Konoha Barrier Team ran a test to check the accuracy and effectiveness of their newly developed sensing system. Mokume took a day off and took a train to attend his friend’s wedding outside Konoha. On the day of the test, Inojin Yamanaka sensed some disturbance in one of the construction workers and after further analysis, they found out that the chakra signature belonged to Mokume. After they discovered that Mokume is not even in Konoha, they investigated and found out that Hyoi Yorishiro, an infamous thief capable of imitating the chakra signatures of others, is impersonating Mokume. Inojin sensed something was off with Mokume’s chakra signature and it later resulted in the arrest of Hyoi. The detection of this vulnerability prompted the barrier team to take efforts to mitigate it.
