Son Goku’s Background

Hagoromo created Son Goku and the other tailed beasts. He split the energy of a powerful Ten-Tail into Nine-Tailed Beasts, and Son Goku is one of those Tailed Beasts. Hagoromo told the tailed beasts that they were connected and would be reunited one day. In the anime, Hagoromo arranged for Son Goku to be kept safe in a water screen cave alongside other monkeys at the location.

During the First Shinobi World War, Hashirama Senju captured eight-tailed beasts. To establish friendly relations and maintain a balance of power among the newly formed ninja villages, he sold two of these tailed beasts, Son Goku and Kokuo, to the village of Iwagakure during a gathering of the Five Kage.

Decades later, Son Goku ended up sealed inside Roshi, who went on his journey to gain better control over his tailed beast.

Itachi Pursuit Arc

Son Goku's initial appearance occurred during the Capture and Itachi Pursuit Arc. This arc saw Roshi, the host of Son Goku, engaged in an intense battle with Kisame Hoshigaki, a member of the Akatsuki. Unfortunately, Roshi was ultimately defeated by Kisame, who captured him. The Akatsuki then proceeded to extract the Four-Tails from Roshi, a process that ultimately led to Roshi's death.

Fourth Shinobi World War Arc

Son Goku reappeared during the Fourth Shinobi World War Arc. Tobi, an alias for Uchiha Obito, forced Son Goku to transform into the Four-Tails fully. This transformation resulted in Son Goku launching an attack on Killer B and Gyūki, which subsequently led to a confrontation with Naruto Uzumaki.

One of the most pivotal moments for Son Goku was during the Meeting with Naruto Arc. Inside the tailed beast's mouth, Naruto found himself engaged in a conversation with Son Goku. This encounter was a turning point, as Naruto's honesty and genuine desire to befriend the tailed beast struck a chord with Son Goku. It began to reveal a way to stop its rampage - by undoing the chains that bound it.

Rescue and Reconciliation Arc

The Rescue and Reconciliation Arc marked a crucial phase in Son Goku's involvement. Naruto used shadow clones to free himself from Son Goku's mouth, with a Naruto clone entering Sage Mode to push out the chakra receiver embedded in the tailed beast's body while Naruto himself pulled it from the outside. This action effectively freed Son Goku from Tobi's control.

Son Goku offered its chakra to Naruto, pleased by the young jinchuriki's genuine efforts to rescue it. Son Goku was then resealed into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, leaving Roshi's body behind. In a poignant flashback, it was revealed that Roshi had attempted to make amends with Son Goku, expressing regret for their past conflicts.

Later Events in the War

Son Goku continued to play a role in the Fourth Shinobi World War. It joined the other tailed beasts in their fight against the Ten-Tails and Madara Uchiha. During this time, Son Goku's chakra was transferred to Naruto, empowering his Rasenshuriken.

Battle Against Kaguya

During the battle against Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, Son Goku and the other tailed beasts supported Naruto by providing their combined power to help overcome the tyrannical princess. Ultimately, Kaguya was defeated and sealed away inside a newly-created moon within her own dimension.

Post-Battle Arc

After Kaguya's defeat, the tailed beasts began discussing their plans for the future, expressing their desire for freedom. Son Goku mentioned his wish to return to his cave.

Tailed Beast Reunion

After the war, the tailed beasts, including Son Goku, reunited with Hagoromo and Naruto, marking a significant moment in their collective journey.

Conflict with Sasuke Arc

The Conflict with Sasuke Arc brought a new challenge as Sasuke revealed his intention to remove those who could obstruct his plans, including the tailed beasts. Sasuke subdued the tailed beasts with his Rinnegan and sealed them within his Chibaku Tensei, creating a moment of tension and uncertainty.

Resolution and Freedom Arc

Naruto ultimately defeated and reformed Sasuke, dispelling the Infinite Tsukuyomi and releasing Son Goku, along with the other tailed beasts, from their prisons. This arc marked a significant turning point as the tailed beasts finally gained their long-awaited freedom.

One-Tail Escort Arc

This arc primarily focused on the One-Tail, Shukaku. When the Ōtsutsuki clan member Urashiki started targeting Shukaku for its chakra, it became clear that he was interested in the chakra of all the tailed beasts. In response, Naruto organized a telepathic meeting with the other tailed beasts, including Son Gokū.

However, Matatabi, Kokuo, and Chomei decided to skip the meeting, as they were still wary of humans and feared being captured and used once again, despite their trust in Naruto.

In the Kawaki Arc, Son Goku and the other tailed beasts sensed a significant event. They felt Kurama's chakra disappearing, as Kurama had sacrificed its life during the battle against Isshiki Otsutsuki. This moment marked a significant turning point in the series, as Kurama, Naruto's trusted-tailed beast companion, made the ultimate sacrifice, a crucial plot development in the story.

In Other Media

Video Games

Son Goku shows up as a tough enemy in games like "Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm" and "Naruto: Rise of a Ninja." There's also a fake version of Son Goku players can battle in "Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive." For those that want to play as Son Goku, they can do so as well! In some games like the "Ultimate Ninja" series, where players can choose Utakata and transform it into Saiken.

Gamers can play as Son Goku in both its small and big forms in some games, but in others like "Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution" and "Ultimate Ninja Storm 4," you can only be the big version of Saiken.

Son Goku's role in "Naruto: The Last" movie

In the movie, Son Goku and the other tailed beasts are targeted by a powerful antagonist named Toneri Otsutsuki. Toneri plans to capture the tailed beasts and use their chakra to power the "Tenseigan," a doomsday device. Naruto and his friends must work together to stop Toneri's plans and save the world.

Son Goku and the other tailed beasts play a pivotal role in the final battle against Toneri. They combine their powers to assist Naruto in confronting the antagonist and preventing the catastrophic plan from being realized. The movie highlights the tailed beasts' willingness to cooperate with humans and the significance of their abilities in protecting the ninja world. It also showcases the growth of the relationship between Naruto and the tailed beasts, including Saiken, as they unite to face a common threat.

Son Goku’s Personality

Son Goku, the Four-Tails, has a personality filled with pride and a big ego. It doesn't like being called the "Four-Tails" and insists on being called "Son Goku." This is because it's proud of its strong abilities and its family tree among the tailed beasts.

Surprisingly, Son Goku strongly dislikes humans. It's because humans enslaved and controlled it in the past, leaving it with a lot of anger. Son Goku even believes that apes are smarter than humans, which adds to his dislike for people.

However, there are exceptions as it deeply respects the Sage of Six Paths and never forgets the Sage's final words. It also develops a soft spot for Naruto Uzumaki due to Naruto's genuine efforts to save it from being controlled.

Son Goku treats his fellow tailed beasts with respect and values those who show kindness to tailed beasts. This shows that Son Goku's personality is quite complex, with a mix of pride, dislike for humans, and a deep respect for certain individuals and those who care for tailed beasts.

Son Goku’s Appearance

Son Goku, the Four-Tails, has a unique appearance. It looks like a red-furred monkey with green skin. It's quite strong, like a gorilla. Its eyes are unusual, with yellow irises and white pupils. Its tail has spiky protrusions running along its length. You can spot its elongated blunt fangs and two long horns curving upward on its forehead like a crown. These horns and fangs have dark tips.

Inside its mouth, there isn't a tongue and instead, it has an opening that looks like a dome-shaped volcano. In the past, during the time of the Sage of Six Paths, Son Goku was smaller and leaner than he is now. It had smaller fangs back then. So, Son Goku's appearance is quite distinctive with its red fur, green skin, and striking horns and fangs that make it stand out among the tailed beasts.

Son Goku’s Abilities

Son Goku is one of the most powerful beasts in the Naruto anime series, and there are many techniques it can use.

Control Over Jinchuriki

When the person whom Son Goku is living inside (called a jinchuriki) falls asleep, Son Goku can control them. This can be a problem for the jinchuriki, as it might keep them awake at night.

Chakra Transfer Technique

Son Gokū possesses the Chakra Transfer Technique, which allows it to share its chakra with others. This can be used to empower allies or heal them. Flower–Fruit Mountain: Son Gokū has the Flower–Fruit Mountain technique, although it's not explicitly described in the source material.

This might involve creating or manipulating natural elements. Monkey Flame Arson: Son Goku can unleash green flames, breathing them out as a potent attack. These flames are incredibly destructive.

Tailed Beast Ball

The Tailed Beast Ball is a massive and devastating energy sphere that Son Gokū can create. It's a powerful and destructive attack, capable of causing significant damage.

Tailed Beast Full Charge

Son Gokū can charge up its immense chakra and then release it with tremendous force, creating powerful shockwaves.

Tailed Beast Telepathy

With the Tailed Beast Telepathy, Son Gokū can communicate with other tailed beasts and individuals over long distances using their minds, which is a crucial ability for coordinating actions and sharing information.
