Sozu’s Background

Very little is known about Sozu’s childhood and past as his heritage is still shrouded in mystery. Due to his limited appearances in the series, close to nothing is known about his lineage or background other than the fact that he is a gambler from the Land of Fire. Tsunade Senju, one of the three Sannin of Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village), would often visit his gambling den and Sozu made quite a fortune off of her.

Sozu first appeared in the Search for Tsunade Arc and in this arc, Sozu overheard Jiraiya asking around about Tsunade. Jiraiya bought him a few rounds of drinks and then he told him all he knew about Tsunade’s whereabouts.

Sozu has not appeared since this incident; thus, his absence makes it impossible to say whether he is dead or alive. He is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information indicates otherwise.

Sozu’s Personality

Due to his lack of appearance in the series and any related information, Sozu never had the opportunity to express his individuality. Based on the spare appearance he had, it could be deduced that Sozu enjoys gambling and was overjoyed when Tsunade, who is also known as the legendary sucker, entered his gambling den.

Sozu’s Appearance

Sozu is a fair-skinned man with an average build and dark eyes with short, trimmed dark hair and a goatee. He is last seen dressed in a dark kimono with grey trimmings, paired with white pants.

Sozu’s Abilities

Sozu is stated to be a gambler and there is no information of him ever being involved in any shinobi training whatsoever. Based on this information, it is believed that Sozu does not possess any combat capabilities.

Sozu in Other Media

In addition to the manga and anime of the Naruto series, Sozu also appears in the Naruto Mobile game. He appears in the game as a constant rival for the player in the Tanzaku location. He engages in a card battle by throwing cards at the opponent.
