Summoning Jutsu is a contract that is placed between the caster of the Jutsu and a target. The target is usually an animal but there are a few exceptions. These summons act like Familiars and will fight alongside you in battle.
Although Summoning Jutsu does mean that you can summon a creature at any point, it does not mean that the summoned creature will listen to you. This Jutsu requires Blood Sacrifice, but it is so minimal that most Shinobi just bite their finger in order to create a little blood.
Using a Summon Scroll without a contract would lead to you teleporting to the summoning creature’s world.

Summoning Jutsu has been around for a long time and it is unknown who created it or how it came to be. It is a contract between the caster and the summon, which allows the caster to summon them at any point of time.
Summoning Jutsu’s power is directly proportional to the amount of Chakra spent on it. To summon larger creatures, one must spend more chakra on the Jutsu. Spending large amounts of Chakra to summon a familiar will result in a large familiar or multiple familiars to spawn.
Although there is no set age when a person can learn the Summoning Jutsu, it is often learnt by Genin. Many users of the Summoning Jutsu that are seen in the anime are at least Genin.
While most Summoning Jutsu requires a contract and hand signs, this is not the case for a Rinnegan user. With the power of Animal Path, people with Rinnegan can easily summon familiars to assist them, sometimes even invulnerable summons that can only be destroyed if the caster is.
Since Summoning Jutsu summons a creature, there can be many things that can be done with this. Summoners have gotten a lot more creative with this process. These are some of the best variations:
A Jutsu that was developed by Naruto Uzumaki to maintain his Shadow Clones for a longer period. He makes two of his Shadow Clones meditate for him. When he reverse summons them, they break and transfer the Sage chakra to Naruto.
In this version of the Summoning Jutsu, Jiraiya summons a giant toad in the sky and plunges it to the ground, making everything shake. This move crushes anything that is under it.
Another Jutsu by Jiraiya. After using the Summoning Jutsu, the caster traps the opponent in a toad’s oesophagus. This makes them lose footing, hindering their ability to fight normally. Jiraiya can also trap opponents in a Toad’s stomach and fill it with stomach acid, melting them.
This variation of the Summoning Jutsu summons the dead’s spirit into a living vessel. The strength of the reincarnation depends on the strength of the vessel. There is a partial and full version of the technique. While being partially summoned, they are not at their full power, but obeys the summoner without question. On the other hand, summoning an opponent at full power will allow them to break free of this technique.
Instead of summoning a familiar, Ibiki summons a torture chamber which is often used in interrogations.
Although he fails to use the Summoning Jutsu effectively at first, Naruto uses it when he needs it the most. One of the best summoning moments in Naruto history, giving the viewers an amazing mech-type fight.
Naruto summons Gababunta for the first time after he gets pushed to death by Jiraiya. While his life flashes before his eyes, Naruto borrows Kurama’s power to summon Gababunta.
Jiraiya stands on his own against Itachi and Kisame. As strong as Itachi is, he claims that Jiraiya could beat both of them. Jiraiya’s Summoning Jutsu leaves them both confused and in imbalance.
A. Summoning Jutsu is allowed in the Chunin exam. In the rulebook, the only thing that is banned is Sage Jutsu, as it is extremely unfair.
A. Jiraiya taught Naruto Summoning Jutsu. After meeting Jiraiya for the first time, he teaches Naruto how to use the Summoning Jutsu.
A. In the Naruto series, Hinata is not seen using the Summoning Jutsu once. While this could mean that we just don’t know what it is, it could also mean that she does not have a contract with a Summon.
