Temari, being born as the eldest child of Karura and the Fourth Kazekage: Rasa, had a hard time making friends while growing up, as everyone around her was intimidated by her lineage. A boy, Daimaru, spent a lot of time around her, but only to prank her.
When she and her brother Kankurō were found incompatible with the One-Tail, Gaara was selected. Although she sometimes feared Gaara, Temari cared deeply about her youngest sibling.
Temari is first seen with her brothers, Kankurō and Gaara, before the commencement of Chūnin Exams. She was shown to be infatuated by Sasuke, when the latter asked her who she was. Soon after, she chastised Sakura, after she questioned Temari as to why they were in the village.
Later, Temari was matched against Tenten for her preliminary match where she outperformed Tenten in one-to-one battle and qualified for the next round. In her final round, she was pitched against Shikamaru Nara but the latter fortified after exhausting his chakra in a hard fought battle and handed the win to Temari.
Temari helped Gaara flee the village when the Konoha crush began. But when Sasuke persuaded them, she stayed behind to slow him down although Kankurō raised his objection to the idea. She insisted that their mission’s only priority is to keep Gaara safe. When Kankūro left with Gaara, Temari attempted to fight Sasuke but was defeated in mere moments. Later, when Gaara was defeated by Naruto, Temai and Kankūro came to carry him back to the village.
Temari and her brothers assisted Konoha genins, who went to retrieve Sasuke, under the orders of the Fifth Hokage. Temari aided Shikamaru in his fight against Tayuya, while Gaara and Kankurō assisted Rock Lee and Kiba.
Later, she accompanied Shikamaru back to Konoha and while waiting with him in Konoha hospital, she criticized his lack of emotional control but also showed compassion when Shikamaru’s father scolded him. Later, Temari and her brothers are escorted by Shikamaru to the gates of Konoha and they make their way back to Sunagakure. Before leaving, she teases Shikamaru by saying she will help him if he were to get in trouble again.
When Gaara’s student, Matsuri, gets kidnapped by the Four Celestial Symbols men, Temari was forced to fight against Kujaku who had similar abilities like her. At first she was able to hold the fight but she was outdone by her opponent’s abilities. She was saved by Shikamaru and Ino just as she was about to be killed by Kujaku. Temari assisted Shikamaru in defeating her by summoning Kamatari.
After about two years, Temari and Gaara discussed a proposal with Tsunade to host Chūnin Exams. It was decided that Konoha and Suna will jointly host the exam, with the first round to be held in Konoha and second in Suna. As Shikamaru went to see off Sand Siblings, Temari once more teased him about calling out for help in case he falls into trouble.
Later, Temari oversaw the written test exam with Shikamaru. She, being the proctor of the second round, guided everyone about the exam which was a race up to Sunagakure and only the first 30 teams to arrive there would qualify. Upon her return to Sunagakure, she saved Kankūro from a masked rebel who tried to attempt a suicidal attack. By the night fall, she was informed about a group of genin being attacked by a giant scorpion. Temari, along with Gaara and Guy went out to solve the issue, only to find that the beast was defeated by Fū.
Next day, she made an announcement about the second part of the Chūnin Exams being held within the Demon Desert. When a massive sandstorm approached the Demon Desert, Temari joined to protect the participants and postponed the exams. She safely transported the genin to shelter and after the storm passed.
Temari had now been promoted to jōnin and serves as Sunagakure’s ambassador to Konohagakure. She was present in Konoha during Naruto’s return when she came there to see to the organization of bi-annual Chūnin Exams. Temari and Shikamaru came across Naruto, who asked them if they were out on a date, to which both of them denied. She was escorted by Shikamaru to the gate of Konoha, early in the morning, which surprised her given Shikamaru’s dismay of waking up early.
On her way back to Suna, she received an omen of bad luck when her cup of tea suddenly cracked which left her wondering if something had happened in Sunagakure. Upon learning about Gaara’s abduction, she joined Team Kakashi, who were on their way to Sunagakure. She sympathized with Naruto knowing he shares the same pain as Gaara, since both of them are jinchūriki.
When they reach Suna, they learn about Kankūro being heavily injured during his attempt to save Gaara. Temari insisted on assisting Team Kakashi as she wanted to save her brothers, but Chiyo volunteered in her place. Later, when Kankurō was healed, he and Temari set out to catch up to Team Kakashi. After Gaara was saved by Chiyo’s sacrifice, she returned back to Suna with everyone and thanked Team Kakashi for saving her brother.
Temari and Kankurō escorted Gaara to the Five Kage Summit which was to be held in the Land of Iron. She and Kankūro get annoyed over the disrespectful behavior of other Kage against Gaara because of his young age. Soon after the Raikage leaves to fight Sasuke, the Sand Siblings leave to join him.
Temari and Kankurō helped some samurai who were hit by Sasuke’s Amaterasu. The Sand siblings and Darui attacked Sasuke after he exchanged a few words with Gaara. After Sasuke left before the pillars inside the building collapsed, the Sand Siblings and Raikage followed him up to the meeting room. When Tobi declared War in disguise of masked Madara, the five nations Kage agreed to form a Shinobi Alliance. Later, the Sand Siblings approached Kakashi and Naruto and informed them about what underwent during the Kage Summit and later returned to Suna to prepare ahead of the war.
Temari went to Konoha to deliver some information to Tsunade and update with the progress of the village after Pain’s invasion. While returning, she was confronted by Konohamaru as he challenged her to a fight. Initially, she ignored him but later was forced to defend as Konohamaru attacked her.
She teased him about the Sarutobi clan running out of a good heir and about Naruto’s lousy student. When Konohamaru charged his Rasengan, Shikamaru stepped in and stopped Konohamaru before the fight got ugly. After seeing the massive impact of the Rasengan, Temari congratulated Konohamaru for mastering the high-level technique.
Before the commencement of the war, Temari was placed in the Fourth Division which was under Gaara’s command. As they wait for the enemy in the battlefield, Temari notices her father amongst the enemies.
Temari attacked the Third Raikage using the Wind Release: Cast Net attack and instructed the sealing team to move in immediately, however, the Raikage rendered the sealing team helpless. When she was devising a new strategy to counter him, Dodai explained to her about Third Raikage’s immense power and that he can outdo her in mere moments. Soon, Naruto appeared on the battlefield and subdued the Raikage. After this, Temari rushes towards Gaara’s location where he was battling against the Second Mizukage.
Later, she was ordered to return to Third Raikage’s location to protect the seal from more reincarnated shinobis where she was horrified to see her old bully from childhood days, Daimaru. Seeing Temari, Daimaru expressed his long feelings to Temari and asked her if she feels the same had he been alive to which she denied and began laughing. After accepting Temari’s rejection, he was sealed when he let go off his past regrets.
Temari was later approached by the reincarnated Torune Aburame, who she immediately warned about to her team and instructed them to be careful. She attacked him quickly only to find out it was his insect clone.
Next day, when the real Madara Uchiha made an appearance on the battlefield, she fought alongside the shinobi forces and launched a counter attack using her Giant Folding Fan. Temari and the half of Fourth Division rejoined Shikamaru’s division at some point of time and together, they mobilized towards the jinchūriki battlefield.
She and other tessenjutsu users stood atop a rock and launched the Win Release: Wind Cutter Technique to counter the shock-wave created by the swing of the Ten-Tails’ tail. Temari appreciated Shikaku’s intelligence, when he devised strategies with little knowledge about various techniques. She later witnessed the fight between the Hokage and the two Uchiha on the battlefield.
After a long battle, when Infinite Tsukuyomi was casted, Temari’s dream was shown of her brothers trusting her as their advisor while she stood on the rooftop of a building in Sunagakure. Later, everyone was freed from the genjutsu by Naruto and Sasuke, after the war ended.
Temari notices Shikamaru’s strange behaviour and confronted him about it. She felt betrayed when Shikamaru refused her to be involved in the dangerous mission, she punched him in anger and left in tears. She found out the truth from Gaara and successfully freed Shikamaru from Gengo’s genjutsu and her presence strengthened Shikamaru’s resolve.
Before Naruto and Hinata’s wedding, Shikamaru asks Temari for her opinion but she misunderstands it and thought that he was going to propose to her. She spent the day with him looking at various inns while still believing Shikamaru is planning for their wedding. Later, she attended Naruto and Hinata’s wedding with Shikamaru.
Temari got married to Shikamaru and emigrated to Konoha, where they have a son, Shikadai.
At some point, she taught a range of Wind Release Techniques to Mirai Sarutobi.
Temari is usually overbearing, if not blunt, to those around her and she is rarely afraid to speak her mind. She has a caring side and she values peace as shown when she questioned the reasoning of starting war with Konoha during the Chūnin Exams. She also always resolved the fights between Kankurō and Gaara by stepping in with a light and happy mood, making sure Gaara doesn’t hurt her or Kankurō.
Temari acts as a diplomatic advisor between Sunagakure and Konohagakure. Her relationship with Gaara improved as compared during the Part 1, although she isn’t as close as the two brothers. Yet she hurried back to the village to save Gaara after learning about his abduction and she watched over Kankurō until he recovered from the poison’s effects.
Temari was alongside Shikamaru Nara in many instances, even during the Chūnin Exams in part, they came to each other’s aid at different levels. Despite her usual tough demeanor, she has shown a softer nature around Shikamaru in different circumstances.
Temari resembles her mother; she has teal eyes and sandy blonde hair, which are gathered into four pigtails.
Temari's outfit consisted of a single off-the-shoulder, light purple garment that reached halfway down her thighs and was fastened around her waist with a scarlet belt. She also wore her black forehead protector tied around her neck, additionally, she also wore fishnet over her shoulders and legs, specifically on her right calf and left thigh.
Temari’s outfit is completely different; in place of her former purple-coloured kimono, she is wearing a short-sleeved, black kimono that stretches all the way down to her legs and has more necklines and side slits. She still wears a red belt around her waist, but has switched to fingerless black gloves and a forehead protector.
When she accompanies Gaara to the Five Kage Summit, she wears hand warmers, leg guards, a purple belt around her waist and a mesh armor underneath a sleeveless purple dress with a purple top over it. She carried her fan sealed in a scroll. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, she wore a flak jacket along with the typical clothing from her village.
Two years after the war, she is seen having bangs that fall to the right side of her face and slightly longer hair, gathered into two pigtails. She is dressed similarly to how she did for the Sasuke Recovery Mission. She wears a grey top over a purple-long-sleeved blouse with a high collar, and a dark blue skirt with a central split that reveals her leggings. She is sporting a different pair of sandals and fingerless gloves.
She also began applying lipstick and after she settled in Konoha and became a mother, she would wear a simple dark kimono robe while she was off duty. She styles her hair back into four pigtails and would also part her hair to the right.
Temari’s hair has changed with only two ponytails at the bottom of the back of her head. She wears a pair of simple white earrings, a light pink lipstick, and a shuriken holster on her right thigh. Her outfit consists of a dark blue short sleeved dress that reaches above her knees and a beige belt with white polka dots around her belly, which also carries her fan.
She also wears fingerless black gloves and high-heeled boot-sandals with wooden souls.
Temari is a highly skilled and capable kunoichi that specializes in long-range combat. She is a keen analyst, being able to easily deduce an opponent’s strategies and weakness soon after the battle begins. During her Chūnin Exams finals fight, she easily calculated the distance it would take for Shikamaru to reach her with the Shadow Imitation Technique, and was able to keep out of its grasp.
She was able to defend herself against Rock Lee’s Leaf Whirlwind much to his surprise, and dispatched Tenten without as much as a scratch. Despite ultimately being out-thought in her fight against Shikamaru, Asuma praised Temari as an excellent strategist. She has also shown to have keen senses able to tell when a Wind Release Technique is being used, as well as when Naruto was attempting to use the Tailed Beast Bomb. She has also proved herself as a capable short-range fighter.
In battle, Temari uses a massive iron fan called a tessen, which she combines with her Wind Release nature manipulation to unleash violent gusts of wind. The fan can be used as a makeshift club to block assaults and to glide atop for intimidation or transportation. It appears to be constructed with some kind of steel as it can deflect kunai and shuriken when it is opened.
Three purple circles are inscribed evenly on her fan, which she calls stars. The power of the fan grows dramatically as she unfolds it to display each star in sequence. Temari can summon slicing whirlwinds that she can control with her chakra once all three moons have been revealed. She uses wind to attack from a distance, change the battlefield to her liking and block or enroute the majority of ranged attacks.
She can counter sound wave strikes that can result in genjutsu with a more potent variation of her whirlwinds, making it both a defense and an attack simultaneously. She has demonstrated the ability to sneak up on her enemies by incorporating sand into her attacks. She can also produce fatal tornadoes.
Over time, Temari gained a lot more control over the wind she creates using her fan. She shows off her skill to pierce through a Samurai’s armor at various spots without harming the man within. Also, she improved a stronger variant of the Sickle Weasel Technique.
During the Fourth Shinobi World War, she was said to be the Fourth Division’s strongest Wind Release user, which was demonstrated when she managed to harm the Third Raikage, whose body was known to be resilient.
She also utilized the Wind Release: Wind Cutter Technique alongside the other tessenjutsu practitioners to mitigate the wind force produced by a swipe of one of the Ten-Tails’ tails. She also performed Wind Release without her fan by using her palm to stir the air. She was acknowledged as Suna’s and possibly the world’s best Wind Release user two years after the War.
Temari has the power to summon Kamatari, a one-eyed weasel who can aid her in battle by synchronizing her own wind with her own powerful gusts.
(About Shikamaru) “Sacrifice is an evitable part of missions.. Didn’t you receive emotion training?”
(To Shikamaru) “Unexpected fragility… men are strange…”
(To Naruto) “Naruto… You really are a mysterious person. You have the power to change people… Lady Chiyo was always saying how she didn’t care about the future of the village… She wasn’t the kind of person who would do something like this for Gaara…”
