Very little is known about his childhood as Tera’s past is still shrouded in mystery. Tera was introduced in the series as a member of Konoha’s Anbu of the Root faction under Danzo, now a former member. Being an Anbu, Tera’s real identity is unknown.
Due to his limited appearances in the series, close to nothing is known about his lineage or background. The fact that he is an Anbu and his real identity is kept a secret, is also a major reason behind his mysterious past. Just like every anbu member of the Root Faction, Tera was most probably trained to lose his emotions from a tender age to be more efficient in missions.
Tera made his first appearance (mentioned) in Naruto Shippuden episode 198 during the Five Kage Summit Arc. In the story, Tera and Dajimu, both anbu of the Root Faction, were given the task of killing Anko Mitarashi who was Orochimaru’s former student. Luckily for Anko, the mission was delayed so that more urgent concerns could be handled, such as finding Kabuto Yakushi, an associate of Orochimaru in his heinous experiments. They were entrusted with finding Kabuto before Anko got her hands on him.
Since Tera has not been seen or mentioned since this incident, it is hard to determine whether he is dead or alive. Unless new information comes to light that suggests otherwise, it is currently believed that he is alive and well.
There isn't much information available regarding Tera's personality due to his lack of appearance and relevant information in the series. It is evident that Tera is a mature and responsible adult from his rank and probably void of any kind of emotions, as most of the anbu from the Root Faction.
Given his Anbu status, he is undoubtedly a reliable shinobi who is committed to carrying out his duties and watching out for his village, Konoha’s welfare. Like most of the Root faction, Tera is devoted to Danzo and would always place Danzo’s interest over anything else, even the safety of Konoha and its citizens. He would carry out Danzo’s commands no matter the cost, even if he had to fight and kill a fellow Konoha shinobi. Even though the Root Faction is officially dissolved, he is still loyal and devoted to Danzo.
Tera never had a visual appearance in the Naruto series, in either the anime or the manga. Because of it, his appearance is unknown. Tera is probably his anbu codename as well since the identity of every anbu member is kept a secret.
Tera was never seen unleashing his abilities in the Naruto series. Judging from his Anbu status, it is safe to say that he is a great shinobi with formidable strength and extraordinary abilities.
