Naruto starts his training to attain sage mode after Jiraiya dies. He goes to train on Mount Myoboku to prepare for the fight against Pain. Sage mode is the ability that allows the user to absorb chakra from nature and make it their strength. When a user acquires this mode their body comes to a heightened state, and all their physical attributes are boosted a lot, putting them in a league of their own.

Sage mode allows the users to tap into natural energy around them which in turn opens up new techniques for them and allows them to power up their existing techniques into their Senjutsu chakra. Sage mode was created when the elder sage toad met Hagoromo Otsutsuki (Sage of six paths) and his brother Hamura. The elder sage toad told Hagoromo that a person can get stronger by absorbing the natural energy around them.
Sage mode requires the user to possess an immense amount of chakra to invoke senjutsu. sage mode is taught in two places: Mount Myoboku by the toads and at Ryuchi cave by the snakes. To acquire sage mode, the user must keep their body still to become one with nature and balance the natural energy around them with their own physical and spiritual energies.
In Mount Myoboku the toads apply oil to the user’s body to passively take in the natural energy (won’t be effective if taken out of Mount Myoboku) and special staff to prevent the user from turning into a stone by knocking the natural energy out of the user. In such Ryuchi cave, the user gets bitten by the white snake sage who injects the user with natural energy, if the user can withstand the injection, it will then accept the power without any issues.

It can be learned from mount Myoboku. After training the mind and body incredibly hard and learning to harness the power of nature, one can gain access to the toad sage mode.
It is a part of the two types of toad sage mode in which sometimes the user cannot completely master training the mind and the body to harness the power of Nature. Those who fail to master this can only utilize an imperfect form of this art and I am left with some frog-like features which can be seen on Jiraiya during his fight with Pain. while certainly, this is a disadvantage also helps the user to move and to better things that normal regular safe mode does not allow.
Another part of the toad sage mode is known as the perfect toad sage mode in which when the user manages to make the natural energy from the surroundings combine with their chakra perfectly. Thus, attaining the power to use the perfect form of sage mode is indicated by the orange pigmentation on the eyes of the user and slanted frog-like eyes. However, it requires a lot of concentration to enter this form at least at the beginning stage.
Snake sage Mall is a very is the power that can only be attended by training at Ryuchi cave. To attain this mode the great white snake injects the natural energy into the body of the user and very few can live to use this power.
Another variation of the sage mode is known as the first stage more which is a very unique sage mode as only the first Hokage i.e Hashirama Senju is seen using this. This power is unique only to him, the powers from this mode power give black markings around the eyes of the user and forehead as well and it greatly boosts the power of the user
Sage of six paths mode is a power that can be granted to someone by Hagaromo Otsutsuki himself. Unlike regular sage mode, it does not give the user any marking surrounding their eyes however their eyes have a plus sign. The use of the power gives you access to the power of all the tailed beasts provided the user has the access to their chakra as well.
Hagomoru Otsutsuki also known as the Sage of Six paths was the creator of sage mode. He had a powerful chakra and also gained access to the Rinnegan. In this mode, Hagomoru is so powerful that he could face Kaguya Otsutsuki for a battle for several months.
Hashirama Senju was the First Hokage of the leaf village also known as the God of the Shinobi world and a worthy rival of Madara Uchiha. Hashirama was also a sage mode user and only took a few seconds to enter this mode which showed us that he had mastered this mode. In this mode, hashirama could subdue both the Nine-tailed beast and Madara which showed how immensely powerful he was.
The most loved character Jiraiya was one of the first characters in the series to showcase the sage mode. However, Jiraiya was unable to master the Sage mode as he has trouble mixing his chakra with the natural energy and ended up with an imperfect sage mode.
Minato Namikaze also known as the yellow flash of the leaf also had acquired sage mode (the perfect sage mode) which was seen by us all when he was reincarnated by Orochimaru. He was seen using this mode during the fourth great ninja war during his fight with Madara Uchiha.
After Jiraiya’s death, Naruto sought training directly from the frog itself in Mount Myoboku, and only then was he able to balance the forces within him and achieve Perfect Toad Sage Mode. We can see Naruto using sage mode during his fight with Pain.
