Hanabi is the younger sister of Hinata and she always looked up to her more else sister and always wanted to spend with her. Due to her duties as the future heiress of the Hyuga clan, it was quite hard for both the siblings to spend time with each other.

Seeing how Hinata was so strong and yet so kind to others around her, Hanabi got inspired to be like her elder sister. She always wondered why Hinata used to sneak out to watch Naruto, who was a social outcast at that time.

During Hanabi's and Hinata's sparring session, Hanabi began to shine and amazed everyone with how she was almost as strong as her elder sister despite their age difference. Later on, Hinata's strength began to get questioned and their grandfather believed that Hanabi should be named the heiress to the Hyuga clan instead of Hinata.

A duel was going to take place between the sisters to decide the future of the Hyuga clan. During the duel, Hinata saw an opening but was hesitant on attacking her younger sister which allowed Hanabi to counterattack and win the duel.

As Hanabi showed more talent and was more promising than her elder sister that their father decided that Hanabi should be named the next heiress of the Hyuga clan. This decision was the start of the hardcore training schedule for Hanabi.

As Hanabi continued training under her father and believing her grandfather's words that they were bound to one fate only. She became more determined than ever to prove that she was worthy of leading her clan as their future heiress.

Hanabi learned by seeing her sister train hard and with a lot of hard work, she surpassed her sister. She is quite skilled in hand-to-hand combat and also became very proficient in Gentle fist, thanks to her father's rigorous training schedules. She can also perform her clan's hidden techniques.

Not only that, she possesses the Byakugan, a Kekkai Genkai that is possessed by every member of the Hyuga clan. Hanabi considers her Byakugan's perception to be as sharp as a fully grown adult's Hyuga. When she activates her Byakugan she can get a 360° view of her surroundings, x-ray vision, and the ability to accurately chakra flow inside a human.
