Kyusuke was a shinobi from Hidden Rain Village and was featured in episode 173, Origin of Pain, for the first time. He was one of the founding members of the original Akatsuki under Yahiko’s leadership. In the anime, Kyusuke grew tired of Hanzo of the Salamander’s rule and cut his ties with the Hidden Rain Village.
Then he, along with a small group, started raiding small villages to survive and one day was confronted by the newly formed Akatsuki. At that time, Akatsuki was just a small group of shinobi consisting of the three orphans of the Hidden Rain, Konan, Nagato Uzumaki, and Yahiko. Kyusuke suspected that they worked for Hanzo and ended in a conflict with them.
Eventually, Yahiko, the leader of the Akatsuki, convinced Kyusuke that they shared his dream of a peaceful world. Although they did not agree with their views and principles at the beginning, Kyusuke and his group ended up joining Akatsuki and became the founding members of the organization.
Kyusuke put his trust in Yahiko and devoted himself to their goal of creating a peaceful world. He then spread the word about the organization and its goal which eventually became one of the reasons the organization gained fame. He soon became responsible for handling any request for assistance that the organization received.
Alongside these significant responsibilities, he also gathered intel and did most of the reconnaissance for Akatsuki. At some point, he developed feelings toward Konan and confronted her about it. He gracefully accepted her rejection as she stated she was dedicated to their goal to establish peace in their war-stricken world.
Soon, the Akatsuki became quite famous and started gathering many followers for their cause. With their newly acquired credibility, they were approached by a messenger sent by Hanzo proposing to join forces. All the members considered this to be the beginning and believed that they were not far from realizing their dream.
The following day, Kyusuke was informed that Hanzo was spotted accompanied by Anbu of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. He found this development suspicious and set out to meet with Yahiko, Konan and Nagato along with his comrades.
Unfortunately, his suspicion became reality when they were confronted by Zetsu and Tobi, later revealed to be Obito Uchiha. Dedicated to aiding his comrades, he engaged in a battle against them but found himself to be no match for Tobi’s formidable abilities. He was unable to land a strike because of Tobi’s intangible body and was wounded by his very own sword.
As a final double-edged attack, he teamed up with Daibutsu, who trapped Tobi in his Water Prison Jutsu. Kyusuke used his Lava Release: Quicklime Congealing Technique in an attempt to petrify himself along with Tobi. Unfortunately, Kyusuke’s plan failed as Tobi escaped by teleporting. In the end, he sacrificed his life for his comrades but sadly, his death was in vain.
Kyusuke was a very private person as he often only spoke when he had something significant to say. He was a reliable person and a trusted confidant. He often referred to Yahiko as his "Brother" and he treated and respected him like one as well.
He was noticeably more violent when he was younger, willing to plunder a small village for supplies but yet wary of using excessive force. In addition to being courageous on the battlefield, Kysuke was also very quick to reveal his affection to Konan, which infuriated Yahiko because he had a crush on her as well.
Kyusuke had long, dreadlocked black hair and vertical pupils resembling the eyes of a cat. He had black markings below and around his eyes, and he wore a Hidden Rain forehead protector. He also wore a simple sleeveless light brown kimono with light black sleeves, a light grey scarf around his neck, and a sword on his back, in addition to these fairly distinctive and peculiar traits. Later in the series, he was seen wearing the traditional Akatsuki cloak, which is made up of a black zip-up robe with red zipper pulls in the anime.
In the manga, Kyusuke's abilities weren't revealed and thus remain a mystery. The anime did him justice and he appeared in the anime as Swift Foot Kyusuke, a shinobi known for his lightning-quick movements. He demonstrated his combat speed by demonstrating his extreme evasiveness when facing the multiple Zetsu clones.
He had a Kekkei Genkai called Lava Release in the anime, which also suggested that he had Earth Release and Fire Release. With his Lava Release kekkei genkai, he was seen using Lava Style: Quicklime Jutsu in the anime. He was also recognized for having exceptional intel-gathering abilities. He was also seen wielding a sword, suggesting he had mastered the art of swords and was proficient in Kenjutsu.
Apart from the anime and manga, Kyusuke also appears in games related to the Naruto franchise. He debuted in the gaming category with Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3.
A. Kyusuke was eliminated by Tobi, later revealed to be Obito Uchiha. This was when he, alongside other members of the Akatsuki, pursued Nagato, Yahiko and Konan, once they sensed something was wrong with their meeting with Hanzo.
A. Kyusuke was one of the founding members of Akatsuki under Yahiko’s leadership and a skilled shinobi of the Hidden Rain Village.
