Who is Shisui Uchiha in Naruto?

Shisui was born in the Uchiha Clan in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. At a very young age, Shisui graduated Ninja Academy in the midst of the Third Great Ninja War and got assigned to a genin squad. A year later, during a mission, his teammate and friend, died at the hands of the enemy.

Shisui went through a great amount of stress as he blamed himself for his friend's death and awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan. About a year later serving as a genin, Shisui met Itachi Uchiha, a five-year-old protege from the Uchiha clan and they formed a brother-like bond with each other in the coming years.

A few years later, Shisui was promoted and given the rank of a Jonin, as he was gathering fame and earned himself the name, Shisui of the Body Flicker due to his famous body flickering techniques. Shisui was feared by shinobi across the five nations to such an extent that a party led by Ao, from the Hidden Mist Village, retreated after sensing Shisui’s presence.

Shisui was assigned the task of keeping a track of the movements of Itachi from the clan, as Itachi’s position in the Anbu was the pipeline connecting the Uchiha Clan to the higher-ups of the Leaf Village. Shisui considered Itachi as his younger brother and sympathized with him. Shisui and Itachi were against their clan’s attempt at a war against the village and were doing everything in their power to avoid it and bring peace and harmony between the clan and the village.

Shisui approached the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi and told him about the rising tension between Uchiha Clan and the village. Hiruzen trusted Shisui and as he was the descendent of his former teammate, Kagami Uchiha and thus he entrusted Shisui with the task of spying on his clan on behalf of the village.

After serving as a double agent for his clan and the village, Shisui became conflicted. Soon Shisui came to the conclusion that his attempts to avoid the coup d'état are in the vein. He decided to put Fugaku Uchiha, father of Itachi Uchiha and clan leader at the time, in a genjutsu called Kotoamatsukami, and avoid unnecessary bloodshed, thus ending the coup d'état plan. Danzo Shimura, part of the village’s higher-ups and head of his own Anbu Black Ops, was not on board as he believed it will not solve the problem at the root.

He also feared that Shisui might use Kotoamatsukami on them and manipulate them. In order to protect the village in his own way, Danzo decoded to eliminate Shisui and take his Mangekyo Sharingan to serve his own purposes. Shisui was able to easily fend off Danzo, but Danzo caught him off guard with the use of the forbidden technique, Izanagi.

Danzo could use that as he had another sharingan embodied on his body, and was able to successfully steal Shisui’s right eye. Danzo and his men then surrounded Shisui to get the other eye and finish him off, but Shisui somehow managed to escape from their grasp.

Shisui knew that he cannot go back to his clan in such a state, as it would fuel his clan’s anger towards the village and will cause war between the Uchiha Clan and the Village. He decided to give his left eye to Itachi to keep it safe from other’s grasp, and entrusted him to prevent clan’s attempt for a coup d'état. Shisui jumped off a cliff with a smile on his face committing suicide and left a note behind to avoid suspicion. Shisui hoped that his death will cause the awakening of Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan, which was the case.

Shisui Uchiha was one of the most talented and feared shinobi that Konoha had ever produced, and even among the Uchiha clan, he was exceptional. He graduated from the academy at a very young age and was promoted to the rank of a Jonin four years after he graduated. Shisui was feared by shinobi across the five nations to such an extent that an entire squad of Hidden Mist Village led by Ao, retreated after sensing Shisui’s presence. Shisui’s mobility, velocity and his use of body flickering techniques earned him the nickname Shisui of the Body Flicker.

He had mastery over 3 chakra natures, FireRelease, WindRelease and LightningRelease and was also capable of Yin Release. Shisui was extremely capable of Fire Style jutsu. He was capable of creating a giant fireball using the signature Uchiha Ninjutsu, Great Fireball Jutsu, which was massive in size, even by Uchiha standards. He was efficient in Genjutsu and Taijutsu from a very young age. Shisui was also proficient in Shuriken Jutsu, which is also showed and taught to Itachi.

Shisui also possessed the Sharingan, as many others in his clan. Shisui was one of the few individuals in the Uchiha Clan history who were able to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan. After awakening the mangekyo sharingan, shihui had gained the ability to Susano and Kotoamatsukami. Shisui had such mastery over his mangekyo that he was one displayed capable of using Susano with only one eye in a cutscene of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution.

Shisui Uchiha was feared throughout the great five nations as Shisui of the Body Flicker. Shisui’s mobility, velocity and his use of body flickering techniques had earned him this nickname. Shisui was capable of moving at such speed and agility with his techniques that he was able to pass undetected by sensory ninjas. He could create multiple tangle after images that could attack the enemy with actual strike force.

Shisui Uchiha had a special ability that no one other than him can use, known as Kotoamatsukami. Shisui gained this ability after he acquired mangekyo sharingan. It is an ability to cast a subtle but strong mind controlling genjutsu to any target in the user’s sight. Kotoamatsukami is hailed as the strongest genjutsu of the highest calibre as it creates false experiences. Its targets were never aware that they were under a genjutsu and thought they were doing everything of their own free will.
