Fukasaku, the sage toad taught Naruto Uzumaki the ways of Toad Senjutsu, also known as Sage Mode.

Fukasaku is an elder toad sage believed to be about 800 years old from Mount Myoboku. Fukasaku and his wife, Shima are heirs of the Great Toad Sage and together they are renowned as the Two Great Sage Toads of Mount Myoboku.

During his training session with HiruzenSarutobi, Jiraiya used reverse summoning by mistake and found himself at Mount Myoboku where he met with Fukasaku. Fukasaku took him to meet with the Great Toad Sage, Gamamaru who was expecting him and told Jiraiya about a prophecy and his role in it. Before this event, there is no record related to the life of Fukasaku. Following this, Fukasaku taught Jiraiya how to use Sage Jutsu.
In his battle against Pain, Jiraiya summoned Fukasaku and Shima, who fused with him presiding over his shoulders, to fight against Pain and entered into what is known as The Honoured Sage Mode. However, Jiraiya lost the fight and his life in the process, but he was successful in cracking Pain’s secret and managed to write a code on Fukasaku’s back. Fukasaku escaped with the code and a body of Pain which Jiraiya successfully defeated.
After Jiraiya’s battle against Pain and his unfortunate demise, Fukasaku met Naruto and decided to train him in the art of Sage Jutsu so that he becomes is strong enough to fight Pain. He took Naruto back to Mount Myoboku with him and started his training. However, he told Naruto that this training will require time and great concentration but being the impatient he is, Naruto suggested the use of Shadow Clone in his training regiment to speed up the process. They started their training with a rough start but he soon realized that Naruto will surpass Jiraiya as a Senjutsu user.
Near the completion of Naruto’s Senjutsu training, Fukasaku informed Naruto about the final stage of training where he himself and Shima will attach themself to Naruto’s shoulder and collect nature in his stead in the face of the battle. Although their attempt went in vain Kurama, The Nine-Tailed Fox did not allow him to get attached to Naruto’s shoulder. As a solution, Naruto decided to use Shadow Clones and have them gather nature energy when he is in the middle of a battle.
During their training sessions. Konoha was infiltrated and attacked by the Six Paths of Pain. When Fukasaku heard about the death of Kosuke, a toad he left alongside Tsunade for communication in case of an emergency, he knew that something wrong. He communicated with Shima, who happened to be near Konoha doing shopping, informed him of the situation, and summoned him and Naruto alongside Gamabunta, Gamakichi, Gamaken, and Gamahiro to the Hidden Leaf Village in the midst of all chaos.
In their battle against Pain, Naruto was able to destroy 5 Paths of Pain with only TendoPain left standing. When Fukasaku and Shima tried putting Tendo Pain in Genjutsu to give Naruto an opening to finish him off, Pain caught them using Almighty Pull, impaling Fukasaku with a rod and left him to die and knocked Shima aside.
Later when they were found, Sakura healed Shima and she wept for now dead Fukasaku but when Nagato accepted defeat and revived everyone he had killed in his destruction of the Hidden Leaf Village with the use of Rinne Rebirth Jutsu, Fukasaku came back to life and went back to Mount Myoboku.
Regarding battles, the Two Great Sage Toads are formidable opponents. They are mostly seen fighting alongside each other, complimenting each other’s techniques. When using her detection technique, extending a creature resembling a serpent to detect its target, Fukasaku extends his tongue and strikes the opponent when found by Shima. They are also sightful and decisive with an excellent battle IQ.
They were able to identify Pain’s shared vision and were able to devise a strategy to counter it during their brief encounter. In anime, Fugasaku possesses two chakra natures, Wind Release, and Water Release. Fukasaku and Shima have also showcased their skills in Genjutsu through the use of Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Chant, which was so strong that a formidable opponent such as Pain could not break out of it once caught in it.
Fukasaku and as well as Shima are very experienced and efficient in Senjutsu. Not only that, Fukasaku is said to be able to gather a great amount of nature energy in an instant. He is considered a great, experienced, and capable teacher as he taught Jiraiya and Naruto, who later became one of the greatest Senjutsu users in shinobi history.
