Not much is known about Hanzaki’s early years. However, it is stated that when Orochimaru, one of Konohagakure’s Three Legendary Sannins, approached the members of the Fuma clan, seducing and bending them to his will by promising them power, Hanzaki was one of the few clan members who refused his offer.
Hanzaki made his debut in Land of Rice Fields Investigation Mission. In the arc, Jiraiya is lured by a woman who leads him to Hanzaki and several other members of the Fuma clan. To Hanzaki’s misfortune, Jiraiya was more than he bargained for.
Jiraiya easily defeated Hanzaki and his group and then gained valuable information concerning Otogakure, also known as the Hidden Sound Village, information from them. At the end of the arc, after the incident at Orochimaru’s hideout takes place, Jiraiya asks him to take Sasame and Kotohime under his wing and take care of them.
This is the only incident when Hanzaki makes an appearance. It makes it difficult to determine whether he is dead or alive. Based on his last appearance, Hanzaki is presumed alive until additional information comes to light suggesting otherwise.
As the clan's head, Hanzaki took part in and oversaw most of the clan's actions, including robbing unassuming bystanders. In these situations, he demonstrates his willingness to kill and steal in order to survive. He did, however, demonstrate some respect for his fellow shinobi by providing Jiraiya with a place to live in return for the money.
This respect, however, was immediately replaced by fear as he realized who he was dealing with. As a result of Orochimaru seducing several of his clansmen, Hanzaki also harbors intense anger toward him.
Hanzaki is a middle-aged man with a muscular physique, dark eyes, and long black hair. He wears a red band around his forehead. He wears a black t-shirt under a white and purple sleeveless cloak. He wears pale purple pants and keeps them on his waist with a white rope. He also carries a huge sword strapped on his back with a thick rope.
Hanazuki is a powerful and muscular shinobi who mainly fights in close-range combat. He uses a giant sword called Zanbato to attack his opponents. Hanzaki possesses excellent endurance and resilience, as he was able to stand up almost immediately after he took a direct hit from one of Jiraiya’s Rasengan and was sent flying through a wall.
