Iwagakure (Village Hidden by Rock)

The Hidden Rock Village is a village in the Land of Earth and is also one of the Five Great Nations from the Naruto Universe. This village is the representative of the Land of Earth.

Disclaimer: Please remember that this page may contain spoilers for Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, especially regarding the history of Iwagakure.

The village utilizes the environment around it, making the rocks and mountains around the village act as a stronghold and the village’s structures formed out of rock itself. These rocks are made into tower-like structures and connected by bridges.

Iwagakure Shinobi are spotted wearing primarily red attire and they have long sleeves on either one or both hands. The hand which does not have a long sleeve does not have a sleeve at all. They are also seen wearing a brown flak jacket over their attire.

Founding of the Village

Ishiwaka, the first Tsuchikage, created the village during the warring states period. During this time, it was a period where countries were battling it out for land. It didn’t matter whether they were children or adults which made it a truly brutal time.

Hashirama Senju sold the Hidden Rock a tailed beast in order to negotiate and in order to maintain a balance of power to ensure peace. However, Madara Uchiha would disrupt this peace by doing things that would make Hidden Rock inferior to the Hidden Leaf.

History of the Village

The Hidden Rock village was not peaceful even during the era of peace. The Tsuchikage even used the Akatsuki to carry out missions the village couldn’t get their hands dirty with. Deidara was a pupil of the Tsuchikage who joined the Akatsuki but before doing so, he stole a forbidden technique and blew up the village, becoming a terrorist bomber in the process.

Iwagakure Shinobi were notorously famous for being criminal in the past, ignoring things like alliances in order to reap maximum benefit. They also attacked Konoha after they were defenseless after Orochimaru’s attack as they had weakened man power, but failed thanks to Kosuke.

Years later, during the era of allied Shinobi forces, the village initially planned to undermine other villages but talking to the Fifth Kazekage, Gaara of the Sand, opened the Tsuchikage’s eyes. He apologises to the other villages and gets personally involved in the battlefield to set an example.

However, the war hurt the village greatly due to the loss of man power. They worked very hard to rebuild the village and even built a new village on the outskirts of the village and called the old one the ‘Old City’. The Third Tsuchikage thought that everything was fine due to the war being over and got a little too careless during the era of peace, causing a lot of people to die during an invasion.

The Third Tsuchikage, in order to protect the people of the village, created artificial humans called Akuta in order to protect the village. However, this project was terminated because the artificial humans were disobedient. The Third continued this project in secret and the Artificial Humans tried to take over the city. Shinobi from Konoha stopped this but the Third died in the process.

Tsuchikage over the Years

There have been a total of four Tsuchikage in the history of the Hidden Rock Village, including the Boruto series. They are as follows:

1. Ishiwaka

Ishiwaka founded the Hidden Rock Village. He was also the grandfather of the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki.

2. Mu

The second Tsuchikage. He was attacked by Madara Uchiha to declare that the Hidden Leaf would be the strongest before he became the Tsuchikage. After becoming one, he pursued tailed beasts and he died while fighting the Mizukage.

3. Onoki

Third Tsuchikage. He was the grandson of the First Tsuchikage and a student of the Second. He learnt the dust release and after becoming the Tsuchikage, he wanted peace as he didn’t want bloodshed from his people. He also hired Akatsuki in order to not get his hands dirty.

4. Kurotsuchi

The Fourth Tsuchikage, granddaughter of the Third Tsuchikage and the great great granddaughter of the First Tsuchikage. She took this role after her grandfather retired. She is a supporter of peace and has established peaceful relations with all great villages at the moment.
