Who is Hokage?

The Hidden Leaf Village is a village in the Land of Fire from the Naruto Universe where most of the stories in the series takes place. This village is the birthplace to the protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki.

The village head of The Hidden Leaf Village is called the Hokage and this position is usually given to the most powerful Ninja in the village. The Hokage of the Hidden Leaf village were Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Minato Namikaze, Tsunade Senju, Kakashi Hatake and Naruto Uzumaki. Danzo was supposed to be the sixth hokage but he was killed by Sasuke Uchiha.

The position of Hokage is one of the most sought after roles. The Hokage is the leader of the country and it is their duty to avoid conflict and to make the Hidden Leaf prosper and to raise the village’s morale.

History of the Title ‘Hokage’

Before the creation of the Hidden Leaf Village, the Uchiha and the Senju clan had been at war for years. They always attacked each other, and the casualties always ended up being dear ones of the clan members. This egged the war further, which made it seem as if there was no end.

That was when Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju met, and the two men had been brothers in a previous life. This connected them to each other and thus they formed an alliance between the Senju and Uchiha. It created the Hidden Leaf Village with Hashirama Senju was chosen as their leader thanks to his wood release technique which would help build the village and his strong, agreeable ideals.

This new title was called the ‘Hokage’, which literally means Fire Shadow. This title was given to the strongest shinobi. The Hokage’s face would be sculpted on the rock above the village and will be there for generations to admire.

Duties of the Hokage

The title of Hokage is at the top of the Village’s political structure. Because of this, they are constantly loaded with large amounts of work. Their job includes day-to-day affairs like assigning missions to shinobi in the village or managing large-scale issues like strengthening security.

When a Hokage retires, their successor is selected by the previous Hokage. If there is a situation where the Hokage has not been chosen by the successor, the next Hokage is chosen by the Feudal Lord of the Land of Fire. This is with the help of the Konoha committee, an advice that he formed within the village.
