Gennai in Naruto

There is not much information about Gennai's past as in the anime, but he graduated from Konoha Ninja Academy and he appeared in Naruto Episode: 25, "The Tenth Question: All or Nothing!" He and his teammates were disqualified because Komugi gave up in the first stage when Ibiki Morino instructed about the tenth question and condition.

A few years later, in Naruto’s Footsteps arc, Gennai and his teammates again participated in the chunin exams held by Konoha village and Sunagakure (the Village Hidden in the Sand). In the first stage, they had to clear the written test where Shikamaru Nara and Timari served as proctors.

The team has to score 100 points together but because they were in different rooms, they couldn’t know which question they should attempt. This frustrated them and then Gennai alongside other shinobi started shouting. Somehow, they were able to pass the 1st stage

Gennai and his team were also able to clear the 2nd round of the 1st stage. Here, they had to reach Sunagakure from Konoha village in a given time and they were able to reach in time.

The next day, Temari instructed the rules of the 2nd stage, in which all teams should have two scrolls to pass the Heaven and Earth scroll exam. Gennai and his teammate came against Team Ajisai and there they fought them but Team Komugi managed to gain the advantage which saw Team Ajisai flee the scene.

Gennai and his team eventually found Team Ajisai, beaten and one teammate short, and this time Rock Lee and Neji Hyuga came to their rescue. However, this made Gennai's team flee as they were afraid that they would lose

Later, after Gaara canceled the chunin exam, each village Hokage were given the performance details of each team's performance in the chunin exam and told to decide whom they should promote. Tsunade failed them as they were not up to mark with the skill level of chunin.

Gennai is overconfident in his ability and takes pride in calling himself powerful. He is also a coward and not intelligent to come up with solutions in the written test.

He wears a high-collared brown jacket and brown pants. He carries a beige sash and has a Konoha village headband. He has very little hair on his chin and his dark brown hair is slicked back into a hairstyle with a small pony tail.

Gennai is skilled shinobi who is good at Taijutsu and can also perform Fire Release which he used against Team Ajisai. He has good stamina and physical ability and that’s why he was able to reach Sunagakure.
