Hidden Mist Jutsu

The information related to the history of the creation of Hidden Mist Jutsu is shrouded with mystery. This ninjutsu was first seen during the first mission of Team 7 outside of the Hidden Leaf Village, Lands of Wave Escort Mission. In this mission, Team 7 was confronted by Zabuza Momochi, an assassin and a rogue ninja from the Blood Mist Village.

During his confrontation against Kakashi of the Sharingan, Zabuza uses the Hidden Mist Jutsu to disrupt Kakashi’s field of vision. With this jutsu, he fills the air with mist and is able to manipulate its thickness in his chakra. Although the user can himself cannot see in the mist, Zabuza tracked enemy movements by the sounds they made.

Zabuza used this technique to perform assassinations. It was stated that if the mist is thick enough, it can disrupt the vision of a Dojutsu as well. In the anime, Byakugan users were able to see through it. Although being an excellent technique, it is ineffective on the sensory type shinobi class as they are able to track target movements despite losing visual.

Zabuza Momochi

Zabuza was an assassin and a rogue ninja from the Hidden Mist Village. He was a former member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Hidden Mist Village. In the Blood Mist Era, students of the Ninja Academy were pitted against each other in the final exam to become a ninja. Zabuza supposedly killed one hundred Ninja Academy students who were his peers. This incident gained him the title of Demon of the Hidden Mist.

Juzo Biwa

Juzo Biwa was a Hidden Mist Jonin who deserted the village, joined the Akatsuki, and was paired with Itachi Uchiha as his partner. He was a former member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Hidden Mist Village before becoming a rogue ninja and joining the Akatsuki.

During a mission with Itachi in the Hidden Mist Village, they were confronted by Yagura Karatachi, Fourth Mizukage, and Jinchuriki of the Three-Tails. In their battle, Juzo lost his life while Itachi managed to escape by using his Mangekyo Sharingan to injure Yagura.

Mei Terumi

Mei Terumi is a kunoichi of the Hidden Mist Village and its Fifth Mizukage. Mei possesses two Kekkei Genkai, Lava Release and Boil Release, which is relatively uncommon. When she became the Fifth Mizukage, she began reforming diplomatic relations with other villages which were lost during the reign of Yagura Karatachi as the Mizukage of the Hidden Mist.

Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi is a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf Village. After the Fourth Great Ninja War ended, he was appointed as the Sixth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. Kakashi is renowned as the Copy Ninja. He copied over a thousand jutsu with his Sharingan that he received from his friend, Obito Uchiha.

In episode 15 of Naruto Shippuden, Itachi Uchiha claims that the Hidden Mist Jutsu is ineffective on him, as he can still use his Sharingan despite the thick mist. By this statement, Itachi contradicts both earlier manga panels and anime scenes.
