Karin’s mother arrived in Kusagakure when her daughter was still a child. The two were allowed to stay as long as the mother used her skills to heal the injured in the village under watch by Zōsui. As the violence erupted, the mother was forced to routinely overuse her abilities.

She eventually died as a result of healing too many people at once. As a result, the leaders of Kusagakure delegated her old responsibilities to Karin.
