Mezu in Naruto

Very little is known about his childhood as Mezu’s past is still shrouded in mystery. Mezu was a member of Konoha’s Anbu unit and thus as a part of the Anbu, Mezu’s real identity is unknown. Due to his limited appearances in the series, close to nothing is known about his lineage or background other than the fact that he was one of Konoha’s finest shinobi and a member of Anbu Black Ops in the Root Faction.

Mezu first appeared in Itachi Shinden: Book of Dark Night. Mezu and his elder twin brother Gozu had their bodies surgically changed to resemble Kagen Uchiha who worked in the logistics department of the Konoha Military Police Force so they could take turns and spy on the Uchiha clan as Kagen. Mezu wore a blue marking mask that resembled a monkey while he wasn't in the village pretending to be Kagen.

For many years, both brothers reported their discoveries directly to Danzo Shimura. In the year preceding the Uchiha Clan Downfall, also known as the Uchiha Clan Massacre, they also assisted Itachi Uchiha in his efforts to prevent the clan's attempted coup. On the night of the Uchiha Clan Massacre, when Itachi annihilated the Uchiha clan, Mezu was impersonating Kagen.

When he faced Itachi, he let Itachi kill him with no resistance whatsoever, knowing full well that it was of great importance that Kagen’s body must be among the rest of the Uchiha clan. As a younger brother, he took it upon himself and sacrificed his life so that his elder brother, Gozu could live.

Due to his lack of appearance in the series and any related information, almost nothing is known about Mezu’s personality. Judging from his anbu status and affiliation to the Root faction, he was loyal to Danzo Shimura and would go to any lengths to achieve his goals. Additionally, he also deeply cared for his elder brother, Gozu.

Mezu is a novel-only character and does not make any appearances in the Naruto manga or anime.

Mezu was never seen unleashing his abilities in the Naruto series. Judging from his Anbu status, it is safe to say that he was a remarkable shinobi with formidable strength and remarkable abilities.
