Sasori was a member of the infamous criminal organization, the Akatsuki, and was a rouge shinobi from the Village Hidden in the Sand. Sasori played the role of an antagonist in the series. In the anime, Sasori was an innocent child and was traumatized by his parent’s unfortunate demise and grew colder as he grew.
Sasori was a master puppeteer and designed most of the puppets available in the Hidden Sand’s arsenal. He was renowned as Sasori of the Red Sand. He was a member of the Puppet Brigade of the Hidden Sand Village.
As he grew older, his obsession for puppets grew and he started creating Human Puppets of strong individuals. Human Puppets were unique puppets that were created by the corpse of an individual. Human Puppets were special and surpassed normal puppets by many folds as they contained the chakra and jutsu the shinobi possessed when they were alive.
Twenty years before Sasori’s first appearance in the anime, he abandoned the Hidden Sand Village and at some point, converted himself into a puppet with his human core still inside it. After ten years or so of its departure, he assassinated the Third Kazekage of the Hidden Sand and converted him into one of his human puppets. At some point, Sasori was approached by Konan and later he joined the Akatsuki.
Sasori completed many missions on behalf of the Akatsuki and eventually abducted Gaara, the Fifth Kazekage of the Hidden Sand with the help of his partner, Deidara. In this mission, he confronted Lady Chiyo, his grandmother, and Sakura Haruno and met his demise as their battle concluded.

Sasori was born in the Hidden Sand Village and his parents were Hidden Sand shinobi who died in battle at the hand of the White Fang of the Hidden Leaf Village, Sakumo Hatake. After he lost his parents, Sasori grew up with his grandmother, Lady Chiyo, a master puppeteer. Although he lived with his grandmother, Sasori often felt lonely and hoped his parents would come back one day as they promised before they left.
Sasori was a bright child and a unique talent that came once in a generation. Being brought up by Lady Chiyo, he grew fond of puppets and became skilled at controlling them. He soon became capable enough to create his own puppets at a very young age.
Out of love for his parents and the loneliness he felt inside him, he created his first puppets, the Father and Mother puppets that resembled his parents. He used those puppets as a stand-in for his parents and would hug himself with them, displaying his longing for affection from his parents. As he grew older, he grew distant and lost any affection for those puppets and abandoned them and they later fell into Lady Chiyo’s possession.
Sasori was one of a kind and the skills he possessed helped him create puppets one of a kind, likes that no one had ever seen. During his time in the Hidden Sand Village, he created numerous puppets including Black Ant, Crow, and Salamander which are used to this day. In the Third Great Shinobi War, Sasori showcased unrivaled puppeteering skills and the blood his puppets spilled on the sand during the war earned him the nickname, Sasori of the Red Sand.
Sasori considered himself to be an artist and his creations beautiful art pieces. He wanted his art to last forever and wanted to create an everlasting art that would never decay. To fulfill his dream, he began experimenting and started creating puppets out of human bodies, known as Human Puppets. These puppets were unique as they possessed the chakra and the skills the body had when it was alive. In the anime, Sasori created a prosthetic arm for his friend, Komushi when he lost his right arm in an incident during his border petrol duty. Later, Komushi died after he accidentally indigested a small amount of Sasori’s poison.
This led to Sasori converting Komushi’s corpse into one of his first human puppets and he became a part of his collection. At some point, twenty years before his introduction in the series, Sasori defected from the Hidden Sand Village. The Third Kazekage was assassinated by Sasori in the shadows, and Sasori turned him into one of his puppets more than 10 years before his own demise.
As the most powerful Kazekage in known history, the Third Kazekage was well-known for his strength and prowess. Sasori observed that despite his defeat, the Third Kazekage did not succumb without putting up a fight.
At some point, after he defected from the Hidden Sand, Sasori converted himself into a human puppet, incapable of aging or feeling pain. Sasori was confronted by Konan and accepted into Akatsuki sometime after turning rogue. At first, refusing, Konan decided to challenge him and suggested that if he lost, he would join. Although Sasori used his puppet body, he finally lost and joined the organization, where he was paired with Orochimaru.
He completed numerous missions for the Akatsuki and even brought a country down to its knees with his puppets. He also created numerous spies and spread them, like Yura and Mukade from the Hidden Sand Village, who acted as sleeper cells until the moment they received a command from Sasori.
After Orochimaru defected from the Akatsuki, Sasori held a grudge against him and even sent Kabato Yakushi as a spy but without his knowledge, Orochimaru had converted him into his follower and a trusted devotee. After losing his partner, Sasori was paired up with Deidara of the Hidden Stone Village. In the anime, Sasori learned about Orochimaru’s hideout and confronted him.
Although he used his Third Kazekage Human Puppet to fight against Orochimaru, they reached a stalemate as Orochimaru used the reanimated Third Kazekage himself to fight Sasori. In the end, Orochimaru won the battle and retreated as Deidara unleashed a series of explosion attacks and the hideout was starting to crumble. After facing defeat, that battle left a bitter aftertaste for Sasori and his hatred for Orochimaru grew stronger.
After almost twenty years after he cut his ties with the Hidden Sand Village, Sasori returned to the Hidden Sand to capture Gaara, the Fifth Kazekage, as a part of his mission as a member of the Akatsuki. The Akatsuki was capturing Jinchuriki to extract tailed beasts in order to realize their ultimate goal.
Sasori infiltrated the Hidden Sand along with his partner, Deidara with the assistance of his spies in the village, Yura, and Mukade. He was successful in his mission and headed towards the Akatsuki hideout to extract the One-Tail Beast, Shukaku. In the middle of their journey, Sasori confronted Kankuro, whom he easily defeated and left to die with his poison.
After they extracted the tailed beast and Gaara died as a side effect, Sasori was confronted by his grandmother, Lady Chiyo, and Sakura. In their battle, he was forced to reveal his real self as Sakura destroyed his Hiruko with her monstrous strength. He battled against them and soon realized that Sakura had managed to create an antidote for his poison from a sample she received from Kankuro’s wounds.
He managed to lend a fatal wound to Sakura when she tried to save Lady Chiyo from harm's way. He stated that her death is inevitable but was proved wrong by Lady Chiyo as she used her own life force to heal Sakura’s injuries. Sasori attempted to utilize this opportunity to end the battle but fell into Lady Chiyo’s trap and was stabbed through his core by his Father and Mother puppets.
Admitting defeat, he entrusted intel to Sakura as a reward in his final act. He stated that he was supposed to meet up with a spy that he implanted in Orochimaru’s rank on Tenchi Bridge at noon. This intel might lead to her or Orochimaru’s demise, both working in his favor as he would get his revenge against one of them. After he drew his last breath, Lady Chiyo stated that Sasori saw through her trap and still proceed and died which might indicate his longing for paternal love and died at the hands of his Father and Mother puppets and might join them in the afterlife.
In the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kabuto brought back Sasori as a reanimated shinobi to fight in the war. He was part of the Suprise Attack and Diversion Platoon along with his former Akatsuki partner, Deidara. Along with the rest of the platoon, he was dispatched to attack the Infiltration and Reconnaissance Party of the Allied Shinobi Forces to disrupt their ranks and strategy.
Akatsuki's Surprise Attack and Diversion Platoon pursued the remaining members of the Infiltration and Reconnaissance Party. Muta Aburame proved to be a hindrance in the Surprise Attack and Diversion Platoon’s way as he successfully hampered them with his Insect Jamming Technique.
When Muta became separated from his teammates, he sent the information they had obtained on Akatsuki to the Allied Shinobi Force's headquarters via one of his insects. Meanwhile, the Surprise Attack Division sneaked into hostile airspace. When Kankuro and Onoi arrived with the rest of the group, Zaji, their sensory ninja, commented that he was experiencing some sort of obstruction that is interfering with his sensory perception.
Then Zaji discovered an injured Muta and hurried to aid him but was taken by surprise. It turned out to be a trap created by Sasori, who was using his chakra threads to manipulate Muta. Deidara, who had loaded Muta's jacket with his special explosive clay, set it off by his side, causing a massive explosion. Fortunately, Kankuro was able to rescue Zaji from the blast but he was unable to save Muto, who perished in the blast.
They were just processing that they just lost a comrade when they got attacked by two of their comrades, Ranka and Tomuka, who were getting controlled by Sasori. They tried to deflect their attacks as they are having a hard time to even considering attacking their comrades.
Sasori was slammed into Deidara by Kankuro, who was able to find an opening, link his chakra strings to him, and smash him into the ground. Sasori continued by praising Kankuro's talent and emphasizing how far he had come since their previous encounter. Kankuro reflected on their previous encounter before revealing his Sasori puppet to be used against Sasori directly.
After a prolonged battle, Kankuro managed to keep Sasori at bay and restricted his movements. After seeing his old body, Sasori stated that he was immortalized by his creations, his exceptional puppets. After the Edo no Tensei was undone, Sasori’s soul was set free. Before his departure, he entrusted his Father and Mother Puppets to Kankuro and asked him to entrust them to the next generation after his demise.
As a kid growing up with his grandmother without his parents, Sasori was a kind soul and kind of shy, and timid by nature. Due to the lack of parental love, Sasori spent his childhood in a depressing and isolating atmosphere. To aid her grandson, Lady Chiyo introduced him to puppeteering. Even though it didn’t fill the hole in his heart, he grew fond of puppets and find solace in his isolation.
Sasori waited for a long time for his parents to come back to him. As he grew tired of waiting and longed for paternal love, he created Father and Mother Puppets resembling his parents. He would hug himself with those puppets to get some kind of paternal affection. As an adult, Sasori often stated that he hated to wait or make someone else wait, which was a reflection of the loneliness he felt while he waited for his parents who never came back. He waited for his parents for a long time but never got to meet them again and he grew tired of waiting.
As he grew older, Sasori became cold and presented himself as he did not possess any human emotions. To create ever-lasting art through his puppets, he began experimenting and created human puppets, representing his lack of affection towards a human beings. Sasori became obsessed with puppets and considered them more valuable than human life.
Although he was impatient and hated to wait or prolong anything anymore than required, He was interested in fighting his previous creations, which had been passed down to a puppet master of the following generation, therefore he took his time in fighting Kankuro when they first met.
Sasori considered himself an artist and his puppets a work of art, true beauty. Sasori had a dream to create an everlasting piece of art, that could be admired by generations, which was one of the main reasons he created human puppets and even converted himself into a living puppet. Unlike his partner, Deidara, he believed that art is everlasting and immortal, one of the reasons he loved puppets is because they cannot die or decay.
Although Sasori converted his body into a puppet, he still had the core of his human body in his puppet body. Sasori transferred his consciousness into a puppet to become immortal, unable to die or decay. In the end, Sasori stated that even though he acquired a puppet body and its abilities, he was still a failed experiment. He mentioned that even though he was a puppet, he still required the essence of his human self as the core of his puppet body to function. He described himself as neither a human nor a puppet, just a failed experiment.
Although he was quite old, Sasori appeared to be a young shinobi in his teen years, thanks to the puppet body he created for himself. He had short red hair and greyish brown eyes.
As a young child, Sasori wore typical clothing for residents of the Hidden Sand Village: dark green robes with a pale poncho. He wore a purple robe with the Hidden Sand headband when he was a teen and resided in the Hidden Sand. When he departed from the village, he was spotted dressed in a brown pair of shinobi shoes, the Hidden Sand flak jacket, a sleeveless undershirt, bandages on both arms, and brown slacks with an attached holster where he kept his puppet summoning scroll.
Sasori's hair became a little messier after he joined the Akatsuki and transformed into a puppet that resembled his former form. He also sported an Akatsuki robe and a purple ring on his left thumb. In the Akatsuki, he also concealed his real body in Hiruko, his puppet which gave him an older appearance and was filled with lethal weapons coated with his unique poison.
Sasori's puppet body was made up of a compartment in his right chest, a 'core of live flesh' in his left, two spinning claws linked to his lower back, a holder for four scrolls on his back, a stinger in the empty and open stomach cavity. Sasori showed the dark irides and black sclerae observed in other reincarnated shinobi after being reanimated by Kabuto. Sasori, like the other resurrected Akatsuki members, wore a maroon cloak with a beige lining in place of his prior attire.
Sasori was an exceptional shinobi. He was a rogue S-rank shinobi from the Hidden Sand Village and was a master puppeteer. Most of the strongest puppets existing in the Hidden Sand were his creations. In the Third Great Shinobi War, the blood his puppets spilled earned him the nickname, Sasori of the Red Sand.
Sasori was capable of a controlling humongous amount of puppets at a time as much as a hundred puppets and was capable of bringing a country to its knees with it. As the creator of most of the puppets, he had an advantage against fellow puppet users as he knew all their weaknesses.
At some point, Sasori started creating Human Puppets that had the chakra and the techniques the individuals possessed when they were alive. He even turned himself into a living human puppet. Sasori was capable of defeating the Third Kazekage, who was renowned as the strongest Kazekage in the history of the Hidden Sand. He later turned the Kazekage into a human puppet.
Sasori was also infamous for his use of a unique deadly poison in his battles. He created the poison himself which caused prolonged pain and suffering to its targets until they met their inevitable demise. Sakura is the only known kunoichi to have created an antidote for Sasori’s poison.
