Code’s Background

During the time when Kawaki was brought to the Kara organization, Code was among the fifteen chosen candidates to participate in Jigen and Amado Sanzu's Ōtsutsuki ritual. This ritual was designed to identify a suitable Kāma vessel for Isshiki, the real leader of Kara.

However, out of the fifteen candidates, only Kawaki managed to survive the screening process and become the chosen vessel for Isshiki. Code, along with the other unsuccessful candidates, displayed shaking and spasms during the ritual, indicating that their bodies were not compatible with the Kāma.

Despite not being selected as the Kāma vessel, Code miraculously managed to survive the process, and as a result, his branded mark transformed into a unique and rare White Kāma. This marked him as a special individual within the Kara organization, with powers beyond those of the unsuccessful candidates.

After the Ōtsutsuki ritual, Code had already pledged his allegiance to Isshiki and was deeply invested in the mission of the Kara organization. However, when he witnessed that only Kawaki had proven to be a viable vessel for Isshiki, he became consumed by jealousy.

His jealousy was so intense that he began to openly hate Kawaki and even threatened to kill him if he were not the chosen vessel. Despite his hostile attitude towards Kawaki, Code's Kāma implant and mutation triggered a remarkable reaction in his body, which resulted in his combat abilities surpassing even those of Jigen, the leader of Kara.

Under normal circumstances, anyone who became stronger than Jigen through modifications would be considered a threat and disposed of to avoid undermining Jigen's position as leader. However, due to Code's unwavering loyalty to Isshiki, he was exempt from such treatment.

Instead of eliminating Code, the Kara organization's scientist, Amado, installed limiters in Code's body that only he could deactivate. This move was a strategic decision to keep Code's power in check while ensuring that he remained a valuable asset to the organization.

Code's loyalty to Isshiki and his exceptional combat abilities, coupled with his unique White Kāma mark, have made him an invaluable asset to the Kara organization, despite his volatile attitude towards Kawaki.

Chunin Re-Examinations Arc

At a certain point after the Chūnin Exams, Code became interested in Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, and started investigating whether he had been marked with the Kāma by Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki before being defeated. As part of his research, Code carefully examined Naruto's body for any signs of the Kāma mark. Despite his best efforts, Code was unable to find any evidence of the mark on Naruto's body.

Kara Actuation Arc

In the anime series, Code was present during a meeting called by Jigen. The meeting was held with the Inners to inform them of the destruction of one of the organization's facilities in Amegakure, which had been caused by an Outer.

Ao Arc

Code was an active member of the Kara organization and participated in several important meetings and activities. In one such meeting, he attended a discussion led by Jigen about the urgent situation surrounding the missing "vessel." Jigen emphasized the need to recover the vessel at all costs, highlighting the organization's dedication to its objectives.

Later, Amado summoned Code and the other Inners for a body check-up to detect any suspicious activity among them. During the check-up, Amado confirmed Victor's death, which surprised Code. He grew suspicious of the circumstances surrounding Victor's demise, wondering if someone within Kara was after the vessel, especially now that it was in Phase 3. Code's suspicion was further heightened when Boro already knew about Victor's execution.

In an attempt to uncover the traitor, Code silently eavesdropped on Jigen and Amado's conversation. However, his impatience grew as he received no concrete evidence. Code then decided to interrogate Delta, as her number was "I." But Delta countered his accusations by pointing out that Code appeared to be the most pleased with the vessel's disappearance, which left him furious and on the brink of attacking her.

Following Delta's failed mission against Naruto, Code attended her debriefing with Jigen. He criticized her for being too weak to face Naruto and suggested that either he or Boro would have to take on the task. Code was surprised to learn that Momoshiki had left a Kāma mark after all and wondered if it was placed on Sasuke Uchiha, but Delta revealed that it was Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto’s son, who had received the mark.

In the anime, Amado's scanning of Boro revealed that he was not the traitor, much to Code's relief. Later, Code was amazed to hear about the battle between Naruto and Sasuke against Jigen, which pushed Jigen to fight seriously and overtax his body. Jigen saw this as beneficial to Kara, as the two major threats to them were now incapacitated and Kawaki's Kāma was maturing. Later, Jigen assigned Code to look after the Ten-Tails.

Amado intervened to calm things down and revealed that the system checks on everyone revealed no signs of treachery. He advised Code not to act hastily, as he could risk angering Jigen. However, Code's suspicion shifted to Boro and Koji, who declined to go through the check-up. Code's frustration with Koji was evident as he vented his anger elsewhere in the hideout.

Kawaki Arc

In the anime, Code was present when Jigen allowed Delta to check on the progress of their mission. He observed her passing by, commenting on her simple-mindedness. Later, Code grew impatient when Jigen disappeared and approached Amado about it. Amado informed him that Jigen was recuperating after his maintenance, and Code speculated that Jigen's relaxed approach in handling the Inners' movements meant he already knew who the traitor was. Amado asked Code to bring in Boro for his maintenance check.

Initially, Code refused, citing Jigen's permission, but Amado convinced him it would be helpful to Jigen, and Code left to find Boro. Code tracked Boro down to a cult he had deceived into joining him. He delivered Amado's maintenance request, which Boro initially refused. Code threatened to use force, prompting Boro to comply.

In the anime series, Jigen was recovering from a battle against Naruto and Sasuke, while Code was still tasked with guarding the Ten-Tails. However, Jigen became concerned when he received no contact from Boro and instructed Code to remain vigilant as the shinobi of Konohagakure had learned of their location.

Eventually, Delta reported that Boro had been killed. Code offered to handle the matter, but Jigen ordered him to continue guarding the Ten-Tails. Later, after the death of Isshiki at the hands of Naruto, Sasuke, Boruto, and Kawaki, Isshiki's soul migrated to Code and commanded him to sacrifice either Boruto or Kawaki to the Ten-Tails in order to transform into a complete Ōtsutsuki. This transformation would allow him to consume the resulting Chakra Fruit and carry on the Ōtsutsuki Will by devouring worlds and continuing to evolve until achieving godhood.

Although Code agreed to the plan, he asked Isshiki to reveal the names of those responsible for his death so that he could avenge him. As he activated his Kāma, Code repeatedly recited the names of those responsible for Isshiki's demise.

Code's Assault Arc

Code knew that he could not risk facing Naruto or Sasuke with his power limiters in place. To increase his strength, he ventured to Boro's hidden facility and killed eight of Boro's cultists who tried to stop him. Suspecting that Boro had not disposed of Ada, an Outer, as ordered by Jigen, Code had Bug take him to her. Despite Bug's warnings, Code smashed open Ada's pod. She appeared indifferent to him, but Code was unable to kill her despite her provocation.

While Ada freshened up, Bug explained her ability which made everyone become infatuated with her, except blood relatives or the members of the Otsutsuki clan. Ada also revealed how her clairvoyance worked and was aware of Isshiki's demise and Code's goals. She explained the requirements for removing his power limiters, which would require the participation of Amado. Ada was interested in having either Boruto or Kawaki become her boyfriend without being compelled, so she agreed to help Code with his goals. She was willing to have one of them sacrificed to nurture a God Tree and provide Code with intel to keep him ahead of his enemies.

Ada used her Senrigan to divulge all the current information regarding Code's enemies to him. Code was taken aback by this impressive display of Ada's abilities, but was surprised to learn that despite all her modifications, she was only proficient in basic taijutsu. Furthermore, Code couldn't help but note that Ada's fondness for Boruto and Kawaki, her desire to make either of them her mate, left her vulnerable to the possibility of betrayal, as they seemed unaffected by her powers. In an effort to strengthen their position, Ada suggested awakening her brother, Daemon. Upon getting free from his pod, Daemon demonstrated an unwavering sense of protectiveness towards his sister, which was showcased when several guards attacked them, following their pre-established orders to eliminate them. To Code's surprise, Daemon possessed the uncanny ability to instantaneously deflect any attacks directed at him and redirect them back towards his enemies, effectively neutralizing them in the process.

Despite the impressive display of power, Code found himself increasingly irritated by Daemon's constant demands for piggyback rides, as he became fixated on Code. As Daemon's focus shifted toward Bug, who was attempting to escape, Code seized the opportunity to strike at the boy with his Claw Marks. However, to his surprise, the attack was immediately reflected back onto him. Code sought to understand the nature of Daemon's ability and asked him about it. While Daemon was eager to oblige, Ada forbade him from sharing the details, citing her lack of complete trust in Code. Code became apprehensive at the possibility that Ada may possess additional abilities that she had yet to reveal, further complicating their already tenuous relationship.

As Ada continued to keep a watchful eye on the village, she spotted Kawaki on the outskirts, completely alone. Code wasted no time and immediately teleported to the area, taking advantage of the opportunity. With Ada's guidance, he made his way toward Kawaki, but instead of surrendering, the young boy offered himself as a sacrifice to appease Code's thirst for revenge. However, Code saw this as a feeble attempt and instead chose to pummel him into submission, still determined to avenge Isshiki's death by killing all those involved in the plot against him.

With his plans still intact, Code informed Kawaki of his intent to continue Isshiki's grand scheme, but that he was no longer targeting Kawaki for revenge. Code then proceeded to take Kawaki with him, only to be interrupted by Boruto. What followed was a fierce exchange between the two boys, each determined to emerge victorious. Despite Boruto's best efforts, Code seemed to have the upper hand, dodging his attacks with ease.

As the fight continued, Code revealed the true nature of the Kāma, explaining how it granted access to the accumulated battle experience of the Ōtsutsuki who created it. He was impressed by Boruto's ability to harness its power, even though he was just a vessel. Code's interest was piqued when Boruto drew even more power from the Kāma, defying all odds by remaining in control of his body.

Code consulted Ada, who attributed Boruto's newfound strength to Amado's drugs, warning Code not to underestimate him. Seeing Boruto as the perfect sacrifice to cultivate a God Tree, Code attempted to retreat with Kawaki in tow. But Kawaki refused to go down without a fight, breaking free with Boruto's assistance. As their battle intensified, Boruto suddenly collapsed, leaving Code determined to get serious and see his plan through to the end.

As Momoshiki took control of Boruto's body and attacked Code, the rogue member of Kara found it an honor to meet the powerful Ōtsutsuki. But Ada warned him to retreat, and he attempted to use Kawaki as a hostage to escape. However, Momoshiki fired a powerful Rasengan at him, forcing Code to separate from Kawaki. Naruto and Shikamaru arrived just in time to save the young boy, but Code took Shikamaru hostage in the confusion. Momoshiki saw an opportunity to eliminate Naruto, a problem for him as well, and offered his assistance to Code in exchange for Kawaki.

Code was impressed by Kawaki's ability to absorb Momoshiki's jutsu with his Kāma, but Ada speculated that Amado had reapplied the Kāma when he restored Kawaki's arm. Shikamaru noticed Code's ally and began questioning him, revealing that Code had someone supporting him. The fight between Kawaki and Momoshiki intensified, leading Naruto to intervene to stop Kawaki from killing Boruto. Code released Shikamaru and prepared to leave, warning Kawaki that someone would always manipulate him. But Kawaki had other plans and used his powers to shrink Code's Claw Marks, preventing his escape. He vowed to eliminate Code and his ally, both enemies of Naruto.

Code summoned Daemon through his claw mark. Daemon reflected Kawaki's attack and knocked him out. Mindful of Ada's warnings, Code confirmed that Kawaki was still alive and realized that he had underestimated the boy's power. He decided to remove his power limiters with Amado's help before leaving. Back with Ada, she warned him about the dangers of infiltrating Konoha, but he assured her that he had already taken the necessary measures to protect himself and his plans.

Omnipotence Arc

Code's luck seemed to be turning when Ada informed him of Boruto's resurrection through Momoshiki's Kāma. However, he had overstepped his boundaries by using Daemon without permission, and Ada was quick to remind him of their agreement. She threatened that if Code became a problem, she and Daemon would kill him after his limiters are removed. Despite the warning, Code's attention was caught by Shikamaru's words coming through a Claw Mark on his nape. When Amado was alone, Code appeared, revealing that he knew how to lift his power limiters. But Shikamaru had foreseen this and activated a reprogrammed Delta, which trapped Code. He then pulled Ada through a Claw Mark into the lab.

Ada's power affected everyone in the room, causing chaos. Delta released Code as ordered by Ada, and Shikamaru struggled to keep her under control with his Shadow Imitation Technique. In the end, he had to release his hold on both Code and Ada. Code then began torturing Amado to remove his limiters, but he was taken aback when Shikamaru offered Ada a chance to join Konoha instead of helping Code get closer to Kawaki. Code was furious when Ada seriously considered the offer and continued to blame Amado for the unexpected turn of events. With Kawaki approaching, Ada urged them to retreat, and Code took Amado with them while telling Shikamaru that he had made it to his revenge list. Back at their base, Amado begged to be spared and agreed to remove Code's limiters to ensure his survival.

However, Code denied his appeal. He planned to kill Amado after his limiters were removed. To save his life, Amado appealed to Ada’s interest in Kawaki. He told her that if she sides with Konoha, she can get close to Kawaki, and then Code would be a hindrance for her. Ada then decided to accept Shikamaru’s offer and ended her partnership with Code, as she believed that she had paid her debt to him for releasing her.

Code was enraged after Ada ended their partnership, feeling like he had been betrayed. He was determined to prove his strength and defeat Daemon, but despite learning his secret, he was no match for him. Defeated, Code decided to retreat, but not before warning Ada that he would return after eating a chakra fruit and becoming a true Ōtsutsuki. He would then find out if he truly loved her or wanted her dead. He took Bug with him and blamed Kawaki for Ada leaving him, vowing to kill him and destroy everything he held dear. Amado, who had pleaded for his life, agreed to remove Code's power limiters in exchange for his life, making him an even greater threat. Ada warned Code that if he became a hindrance to her goals, she would not hesitate to kill him. Code's obsession with proving his strength and desire for revenge against Kawaki had become dangerous, and there was no telling what he would do next.

Later, at the Ten-Tails’ location, he covered the beast in Claw Marks, extracting some of its body to create Claw Grime, his army of deadly warriors. With a thousand at his command, he stored some for a surprise attack on Konoha but knew Ada's presence there would ruin any element of surprise. As he planned his next move, Ada's jutsu affected him, even though he was in his otherworldly dimension, altering his memories of the recent events on Earth.

With Boruto's life now switched with Kawaki's in everyone's memory, Code believed that Boruto had taken everything from him, and he swore to avenge himself by taking Boruto's life. He knew he would need all the Claw Grime at his disposal to launch a successful attack, and he prepared to unleash them on Konoha. With a fierce determination, Code set out to make Boruto pay for his sins, and destroy everything he holds dear, no matter what the cost.

Code’s Personality

Code's demeanor is marked by arrogance and a mocking attitude. He takes pleasure in belittling his fellow Inners, such as Delta, whom he regards as weaker than him. His confidence in his own abilities is such that he was certain he or Boro could handle the formidable Naruto, and thus secure Kawaki's retrieval. He is also extremely vindictive and openly talks about the people he wants to kill.

Code's devotion to Isshiki is unwavering, and he reveres him and the entire Ōtsutsuki clan as divine beings. Despite his knowledge of their destructive tendencies, he remains loyal to them and is willing to sacrifice himself to become a vessel for them. In fact, he views his failed Kāma as a source of bitterness and jealousy towards Kawaki, who succeeded as a vessel.

Code is a fervent believer in the Ōtsutsuki's mission to conquer and consume planets, and sees himself as a humble servant of their divine will. He is regarded as Isshiki's most loyal subordinate, and holds other Kāma bearers in high esteem, except for Kawaki, whom he sees as a source of personal failure and defeat. Despite his vengeful tendencies, Code's reverence for the Ōtsutsuki clan remains undiminished.

Even though Code is arrogant and mocking, his loyalty to Isshiki and determination to carry on the Ōtsutsuki's legacy runs deep. Despite having strength beyond Jigen's, he willingly accepted limiters implanted in his body to remain obedient. Learning of Isshiki's demise made him angry, and he vowed to avenge him and become an Ōtsutsuki himself.

Code is perceptive, as seen when he figured out Boro's disobedience, but can also be lazy as he fell asleep while guarding the Ten-Tails. He is cautious and methodical, opting to recruit help from Ada rather than face Naruto and Sasuke in his weakened state. He is also strategic, placing Claw Marks in various locations to keep the five great villages riled up and spread out their forces.

Since inheriting Isshiki's will, Code has become determined to continue the Ōtsutsuki's goal of cultivating the God Tree and siphoning all the life energy on Earth to produce a Chakra Fruit and evolve. His devotion to Isshiki and the clan, coupled with his strategic abilities, make him a formidable opponent to those who stand in his way.

Code’s Appearance

Code is a distinctive figure, with his tall, slender build and a mop of wild auburn hair that falls in unruly curls around his face. He sports a Claw Mark tattoo that stretches across his forehead and down over his cheekbones, partially obscuring the scars that mark his features. Under his sleeves, he hides two additional Claw Marks, a testament to his power and status within the Kara organization. His striking green eyes hold an intense, almost manic gleam, and just below his right eye, a bold Roman numeral "Ⅵ" tattoo is inked in black.

He wears a silver earring on his right ear, its triangular shape catching the light, and a sharp spike earring on his left. His attire is equally striking, with a long, flowing black cloak that is lined with a delicate lavender fabric. Underneath, he wears a sleek black shirt with a unique waistcoat that features a black left side, a lavender right side, and a white back. The ends of his pants and sleeves are lined with lavender, adding a touch of color to his otherwise monochromatic ensemble. In his left palm, he bears the telltale mark of a failed vessel - a White Kāma that resembles a diamond-shaped seal.

Code's appearance has gone through a transformation, both as a child and as an adult. As a young child, he didn't have his signature Claw Mark band and wore a black jumpsuit with a high collar. In the anime, he wore a simple yet casual outfit, consisting of a gray hoodie, white shirt, and dark pants, and was barefooted.

However, after having his limiters removed, Code's appearance underwent a drastic change. His hair and eyelashes turned white, swept upwards and his fingernails became dark. His eyes also turned red and gained pupils and a limbal ring, giving him an intimidating and otherworldly look.

With his newfound power, Code also updated his wardrobe. He now dons a dark evening cloak with a high collar and chain clasp, which he wears over a dark double-breasted waistcoat, poet shirt, and cravat. To add to his menacing appearance, he also wears studded dark bracers with lined wrist cuffs, a studded belt, dark pants, and dark boots with a lined backstay. Overall, his attire is both fashionable and ominous, fitting for a menacing character like him.

Code’s Abilities

Code is not your average ninja - he's a complete monster when it comes to power. As an Inner of Kara, he's considered to be one of the strongest members of the organization, next to the likes of the resurrected Isshiki. Amado, a fellow member of Kara, has even noted that Code's combat abilities surpass those of Jigen, the leader of Kara.

Even with his limiters in place, Code is still a force to be reckoned with. He's been recognized as being stronger than Delta, Boro, and possibly even Koji Kashin. In fact, Amado believes that if he were to face Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, in a one-on-one battle without the Nine-Tails, Code's suppressed might could possibly defeat him.

Code has also been entrusted with guarding the Ten-Tails, a valuable and dangerous creature. His abilities extend beyond just physical strength, as he's able to use the Yin Release to perform the powerful Genjutsu communication technique. He's also shown impressive hand-to-hand combat skills, easily dodging and countering the attacks of Kawaki. In short, Code is not to be underestimated.

White Kāma

Code in Boruto.
Still from the anime.

As a failed vessel of the powerful Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, he bears a White Kāma that grants him access to his master's "pure power". This power is beyond anything seen before, with Amado noting that Code's strength surpasses even that of Jigen. With the White Kāma, Code's body responds in ways that give him abnormal abilities, and while it cannot absorb jutsu, it can transform him into a perfect Ōtsutsuki. This transformation will allow him to carry out the infamous Otsutsuki Will of devouring worlds and evolving into a god-like being. And when activated, the White Kāma spreads markings along his body, forming a pattern that nearly mirrors Jigen's, with his left eye also undergoing a transformation. Code is a formidable opponent with powers that are unmatched, making him a true force to be reckoned with.

Body Modifications

Code is a true terror on the battlefield, thanks to the extensive modifications made to his body by Amado using Scientific Ninja Tools. He is able to morph portions of his body into deadly weapons. Using his fingers, he can effortlessly slice through anything that comes his way with razor-sharp talons. But that's not all; Code's DNA has been modified with remains of Shibai Ōtsutsuki, giving him the power to mix his chakra and blood to create black bands, known as Claw Marks, that act as a portal to strike from any location they touch.

Despite his tremendous power, Code's abilities were initially restrained by special limiters created by Amado to prevent him from challenging Jigen's leadership. However, even with these limiters in place, Code possesses immense strength, easily lifting a man twice his size with just one hand. However, Amado disabled these limiters, granting Code unrestricted access to his tremendous power, making him a force to be reckoned with.

Code in Other Media

In addition to the Boruto manga and its anime adaptation, Code also appears in a game titled, Naruto x Boruto: Ninja Voltage.
