Gamatatsu is one of the toads residing in Mount Myōboku. He is the youngest son of Gamabunta and younger brother of Gamakichi.
He was accidentally summoned by Naruto Uzumaki during the latter’s battle against Orochimaru in an attempt to make amends for Jiraiya’s failed summoning.
Gamatatsu appeared briefly in the Land of Birds when Gamakichi and Naruto needed him. Despite Naruto’s belief that he would be useless, Gamatatsu used his curiosity to discover a kite that revealed how the Cursed Warrior flew. Later, he and Naruto traveled through a dark tunnel with Gamakichi, although Naruto was caught by Sahi and his soldiers. These incidents caused Naruto to believe that Gamatatsu can sometimes be helpful.
When Naruto was not able to synchronize with Gamariki for the combination technique, he opted to call Gamakichi and Gamatatsu, with whom he had previously worked effectively. Naruto was astounded by how much they had grown, as they were now bigger than him which Gamatatsu explained was due to all the snacks they had consumed.
Naruto then learned that neither Gamatatsu nor Gamakichi had mastered water-based powers like their father, but he decided to keep working with them nevertheless because he found it more preferable to working with Gamariki.
Gamatatsu decided to try to learn water-based techniques and was educated by Gamakichi in what appeared to be the fundamentals of water chakra learned from their father. He ultimately accomplished a powerful water blast after multiple failed attempts at using water chakra, which included using already existing water stored in Gamatatsu’s mouth.
When Team Yamato was unable to break through Guren’s crystal barrier through conventional means, Naruto summons Gamakichi and Gamatatsu for help. Gamatatsu used his newly learnt Wind Release: Toad Gun Technique to burst through Guren’s crystal and then helped in rescuing Hinata. They returned home once their job was done.
Naruto later summoned them again to assist him during the mission, such as when Naruto summoned the two brothers to assist him in crossing a lake and defending the squad, who was attempting to seal the Three-Tails.
When Naruto and Guy became ill from poisonous mushrooms, the former summoned Gamatatsu to bring Shima’s meal to help them recover. By this time, Gamatatsu had clearly grown much larger than Naruto.
Initially, it appeared as if Gamatatsu would choose snacks over someone’s life. However, he has shown that he cares about Naruto’s life, as he was willing to rescue Naruto before his older brother talked him out of it. Despite his somewhat naive and childish personality, Gamatatsu does occasionally use his innate curiosity to help Naruto in solving mysteries.
Gamatatsu is so obsessed with snacks that he waited a year after his initial summon for the snack he was promised, even though he still didn’t get it. He is always hungry and asks his summoner for snacks, and is frequently confused by strange situations for which he relies on his “older brother Gamakichi” to help with him. His voice is amusingly high in English Dub. He also openly addresses his father Gamabunta as “daddy”, which the older toad either ignores or doesn’t mind.
He appears to lack a sense of danger. When Orochimaru summoned Manda, Gamatatsu was too preoccupied with greeting his father to see the gigantic snake staring at him. The tiny toad didn’t seem scared at all until Gamakichi told him to run. However, his fearlessness might also be due to the presence of his enormous and overprotective father.
Gamatatsu is mostly yellow, with orange markings around his eyes and mouth. He also has two inward curved marks on his stomach. He was small enough to fit on Naruto’s head during Part I, but by Part II, he had grown large enough to make Naruto stand on his head and consumed a full grown person. He wears a blue vest like his brother.
Gamatatsu has shown the ability to spew oil from his mouth, as most toads do, which he can combine with Naruto and his wind-based chakra to create the Wind Release: Toad Oil Bullet. He can also use this technique with his brother to burn the substance, which results in a more lethal consequence.
Gamatatsu can also use Water Release to fire a water blast, which he can combine with Naruto’s wind-based chakra to create the Wind Release: Toad Gun, which is powerful enough to burst through Guren’s very indestructible crystal labyrinth.
A. Naruto summoned Gamatatsu for the first time by accident. But as time passed, he summoned Gamatatsu on a few occasions to get assistance in his missions.
A. Gamatatsu is still alive, but it’s not clear what he is up to. He probably resides in Mount Myōboku full time after his last appearance.
A. Gamatatsu and Naruto synchronized for Gamatatsu to use his Water Release: Toad Gun. They did so in order to break Guren’s crystal barrier.
