Ganryuu in Naruto

Ten years ago Ganryu and his team were sent on a mission to retrieve a scroll with a team from Iwagakure that Kumogakure Ninja took. After retrieving the document, Iwagakure betrayed Ganryu's team and killed Junsai and Suiren. This incident was known as the Tragedy of Yosuga Pass and was the beginning of enmity between Kirigakure and Iwagakure.

After hearing of the formation of the Allied Shinobi Forces, Ganryu and a team of Kiri ninja planned to wait on a small island where messengers from Iwagakure were supposed to meet up. Ganryu and his team attack the messengers, Akatsuchi and Kurotsuchi and try to kill them so that the alliance breaks off with Iwagakure.

Naruto and Chojuro interfere and stop the fight and both the teams retreat. Later during the night, Ganryu decides to ambush the Iwas ninja while they are sleeping and he tells his team to attack them with all the anger that was built up within them. Naruto finds Ganryu and he recognises Naruto as the Nine-Tails jinchuriki who defeated Pain.

He tries to convince Ganryu to give up on his revenge as he understands what he's going through and assure to bring peace to the world, something which Suiren wished for. At that moment Kurotsuchi suddenly arrives and tries to kill Ganryu but Naruto steps in and protects him. Chojuro arrives and confronts Ganryu for his crimes and he surrenders.

He then gives Ganryu a box which contains Suiren’s bracelet which was supposed to be given back to Ganryu from Iwagakure to strengthen their bond and apologize for their betrayal. He was later imprisoned for his crime.

Ganryu hated Iwagakure from the depths of his heart and openly and readily attacked ninjas from that Village or anyone who sides with them. This was due to the betrayal they faced from them during a joint mission with Iwagakure. Despite his belligerent actions and mindset, Ganryu ultimately believes that his actions would bring peace.

Not only that, he believed that aggression between the villages early on in the Alliance will make the Kage consider a peace treaty. He has a change of heart when he meets Naruto, who he puts his trust in to bring peace to the world.

Ganryu had dull black hair and dark eyes while his face is usually set in hard inedible expression and he wears the standard attire of the Kirigakure Ninja. This consists of the flak jacket and the forehead protector on a white cloth with a jade green bangle that his teammates wore. He also carries a cleaver-like blade strapped to his back.

As a jonin, Ganryu is quite a skilled shinobi and is very proficient in kenjutsu. He wields a cleaver-like blade and can use it with great proficiency and can throw several strikes continuously without giving his opponent time to retaliate. He is also very skilled according to Chojuro.

"If an incident of revenge occurs here, the Five Kage will be forced to think seriously… about the difficulty and risk involved in maintaining an alliance. And they will be forced to think about peace."
