Io in Naruto

Very little is known about Io as his past is still shrouded in mystery. It is stated that Io was relocated to the outskirts of Konoha due to the random explosions he caused with his experiments. Io claims that these small failures are just challenges he must overcome to invent ninja tools. It was also revealed that most of Io’s original inventions are impractical to use or serve any purpose.

Io is an anime-only character and does not appear in Naruto manga, making him a non-canon character.

Io made his debut in episode 184 of Naruto Shippuden in the Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha. In the episode, Tenten, Naruto Uzumaki, and Neji Hyuga are dispatched to the Konoha Tool Research Lab to retrieve more ninja tools for the village.

Upon reaching there and witnessing some of Io’s work, two intruders, Gameru and Kusune, demand new weapons from Io and his apprentice Shoseki. When Io refuses to give his ninja tools to any outsider, anyone not from Konoha, the intruders threaten to use force.

When Io realized that the Konoha-nin had difficulty fighting the intruders because of his weapons, he gave Tenten his newest invention, Jidanda. After Tenten defeats the intruders, Io takes Jidanda back from her, stating that it still needs much work.

Three years later, this incident, after the destruction of Konoha, Tenten and Neji went back to the Konoha Tool Research Lab to retrieve some weapons for the village.

Io has not reappeared since this incident. Thus, it would need more time to determine his current status. For the time being, he is presumed to be alive until additional information comes to light suggesting otherwise.

Io is an eccentric old man who is very passionate about his work, inventing weapons. He often performs experiments for his research without thinking of the consequences, which often results in explosions. Because of his passion for inventing new weapons, he often creates weapons that are impractical, impossible to use, or too over-the-top to use. He also resents his inability to experiment with his creations.

Io is fiercely loyal to his village, Konoha, even though he was relocated to the outskirts of the village due to his tendency to cause random explosions. He refuses to sell his weapons to outsiders.

Io is an old man with a small stature. He has grey hair on his balding head, small dark orange eyes, a small mustache, and a goatee. He keeps his arms and legs wrapped up in white bandages and wears gloves. He wears a red blacksmith’s apron with Konoha’s symbol underneath a high-collared yellow jacket, a pair of black trousers, and sandals.

Io is a skilled and knowledgeable ninja tool creator. He is also open-minded with his approach while creating weapons, willing to create unorthodox yet dangerous ninja tools, evidenced by his creations such as Dako, Jidanda, and Tsurukame.

He is also skilled in setting traps for intruders. He has also shown his ability to use Fuinjustu (sealing jutsu) with his Enclosing Technique, which he uses to store his creations.
