Might Guy was the son of Might Duy who was known as Konoha's Eternal Genin. His father never cared for this title as he was happy enough that people cared enough to know him. Guy's father's optimism was reflected onto him, that they always had youth and could become great Taijutsu masters through diligent training. Guy did his best to learn and implement his father's teachings. He loved his father immensely and when one of the fights landed his father in the hospital, his dad encouraged him not to be upset by the loss but that real victory is achieved when you protect important things.
When Guy applied for the academy, he was unable to pass the exam and that didn’t shock Kakashi because Guy lacked ninjutsu and Genjutsu, which Guy took as a suggestive observation. Despite what Kakashi thought, his father Sakumo thought differently. This strength in character made Kakashi's father Sakumo Hatake think that Guy was not handicapped by his shortcomings and that he may be offered a different position in the Academy's alternate class.
He thought that Guy wasn’t handicapped by his shortcomings. Later on, Guy was admitted to the academy along with Kakashi and after graduation was added to the team under the leadership of Choza Akimichi. During the Chunin exams, Guy reached the final stage but lost in a one-on-one fight with Kakashi. Guy's father died on his mission to rescue his son when fighting one of the swordsmen of the mist, but he was happy as he had protected something very dear to him, his son Guy.
At some point, Guy labeled Kakashi as a long-term rival and driven by his enthusiasm and dedication that he could be as skilled and a great ninja as Kakashi. He constantly challenged Kakashi and even though he used to lose sometimes, he never let it hinder him and continued. Through their years of constantly competing with each other, Guy and Kakashi became very good friends and used to even hang out with each other.
The competition between Guy and Kakashi increased not in a bad way but for the good. Even though Kakashi had a greater score, Might Guy managed to catch up to him and eventually the difference between them winning was one number, and throughout the years that has remained consistent. The guy was very proud of this achievement. Over the years they became great friends and were even together when the Nine-Tails attacked Konoha, they weren't allowed to help and were kept inside the barrier.
After the Third Great Shinobi War, Guy was aware of the losses Kakashi had experienced and helped him cope and deal with them. After Obito's death, Guy filled in for him in Team Minato when they went on a mission to Iwagakure. When they got surrounded, Guy thought of sacrificing himself to allow the others to escape but they were able to fight till the reinforcements arrived.
After Rin died and Kakashi was sent on a mission, Minato suggested Guy follow him as he thought that Rin's memories would haunt him. It turned out like how Minato predicted when Kakashi started hyperventilating from using Chidori (as it reminded him of killing Rin) Guy was there to save him in time and take him back. Guy also requested to join the Anbu as he wanted to be there for Kakashi after the Fourth Hokage died but he was denied a place. When Guy saw how the Anbu had turned Kakashi into a mindless killing machine, he requested that Kakashi should try leading a genin team to find himself again.
When Guy learned about Rock Lee, a boy who could not use Ninjutsu and Genjutsu just like him, he thought of training him and encouraging him to work hard. Lee was added to team Guy alongside Neji and Tenten. When Lee showed his willingness to become a splendid ninja despite his odds, Guy took him in and dedicated his whole life to helping Lee achieve his dream.
One of the missions that Team Guy went on was they were sent to investigate the bandit activities of Raiga Kurosuki in the village of Katabami Kinzan. When going to the village, they stopped to eat at a place where Lee used to usually eat. When they went there, they got to know that the owner's son Karashi had left in a fit, stating that he was all-powerful and could fight anyone.
They continued on their mission, and upon arrival, they saw what a sad state the village was in. The villagers were so traumatized that they refused to take any help. When they got a hold of one of Raiga's minions, they were surprised to see that it was Karashi. They also found a boy known as Ranmaru who was controlled and being used as a vessel by Raiga. They learned that the boy was with Raiga as they had an understanding with each other.
They were successful in completing the mission with the help of Ranmaru and Karashi. They were also in charge of the mission to protect the Konoha Weapons Research Lab. After Pain attacked the village, Neji and Tenten were sent to gather the weapons for the Fourth Great Shinobi war. They had to get a thousand shurikens and Kunais.
They had to overcome a lot of traps and once they cleared them all, they stumbled upon a room with all the greatest weapons. Some bandits tried to steal the weapons but Tenten managed to fight them all off with the use of Io's latest weapon.
Might Guy even played a huge part in the battle against the Akatsuki member, one of his most famous fights is against Kisame Hoshigaki. This was a joint mission between Team Guy and Team Kakashi. They were sent to save Gaara who had been captured by the Akatsuki. In this mission, Team Guy had to fight Kisame. Guy fought Kisame with the help of his Six Gates Chakra and plummeted Kisame to his death. After fighting Kisame, his body changed, and it turned out to be another person.
They realized that it was a copy and that the Akatsuki had done this to buy time to extract Shukaku from Gaara's body. After a quick return, they found a lifeless Gaara. Lady Chiho used the reincarnation technique, and with the help of Naruto’s chakra, they were able to revive Gaara.
Even during the Fourth Great Shinobi War, while fighting Madara, Minato tells the others to also help Guy and he gives Lee his kunai. Guy uses his Evening Elephant on Madara but it gets shielded by Madara's truth-seeking ball. Lee throws the kunai between Madara and Guy, with Minato using his flying thunder god technique to send the orbs away. Gaara then helps Kakashi to get close to Madara so that he can use his Kamui to create an opening in Madara's defense.
And with that much time Guy achieves his Evening Elephant and attacks Madara but he survives it. Guy tries to release his Gate of Wonder which also fails to damage Madara. With his seventh gate also failing, Guy realizes that he must use the eighth gate i.e. the Gate of Death which he is aware will kill him.
When Lee hears this decision he is devastated but realizes that his sensei is doing what’s needed and remembers the time Guy took over training him in Taijutsu. During this time he has flashbacks and remembers his father and what all he had done for him. His father never paid heed to all the things people said while making fun of him and would always have a positive attitude. He also acknowledged how hard his father worked as a shinobi and trained him to become one too!
Not only that, Guy remembered how his father had started to teach him Taijutsu. In the end, he remembers how his father had activated the Eight Gates to save him against the swordsmen of the mist and gave it all in that fight even though it resulted in him giving his life.
Coming back to the present, Guy finally activates the eight gate and is surrounded by red vapor when Kakashi sees him in this state he remembers when his father told him that there may come a day when Guy will surpass his strength and that turned out to be true. He advances toward Madara to release the Evening Elephant but dies to the pain of the eight gate formation which meant that his attack ended prematurely. Madara asks Guy to continue fighting him and calls him the ' Strongest Taijutsu User' he has ever encountered. Guy prepares to unleash a powerful kick on Madara, almost killing him.
Guy's body starts disintegrating and in the meanwhile, Madara is getting regenerated from the attack. But before Madara could finish Guy off with a truth-seeking ball, Naruto steps in and kicks it away and then he goes to and heals Guy with a simple touch that stops his life force from depleting.
As Guy's leg had been severely injured he had to retire as a shinobi and was confined to a wheelchair. Despite being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his time, Guy continues to train as his energy seems never to die down.
Might Guy is usually seen in his 'nice guy' pose which is him giving a thumbs up, a wink, and a huge warm smile. He is a bundle of optimism and confidence. He follows the ideal of the Power of Youth and lives up to it no matter what happens and makes everyone else also join him in this way of life( in a fun way). He is a very dedicated, committed, and driven man to his principles. Even though he can now use Genjutsu and Ninjutsu, he solely wants to rely on Taijutsu.
Even though he has odd mannerisms, he can be serious when the situation requires it to be. Guy has a bad memory it's difficult for him to remember faces. Even though Guy is enthusiastic, if any of his students need straightening then he makes sure to do that well. For example, if Lee breaks any of the tenets of conduct, Guy will physically strike him. But right after that, he'll start crying at the harm he's done to stop Lee from going astray.
Guy calls himself Konoha's Sublime Green Beast of Prey and it suits him well. Lee idolized Guy so much that he modeled his whole appearance and personality after Guy. As their past resembled each other, Guy dedicated himself to training Lee and helping him achieve his dream of becoming the master of Taijutsu. As Tenten and Neji wanted to also learn from Guy and gain his valuable insight, they stuck around. Guy considers Kakashi as his close friend and they work very well together and can understand what each other is saying(basic telepathy) and always look out for each other's well-being.
Might Guy is a muscled and tall man. He has fair skin, a strong jawline, a large nose, and black hair. His bowl hair cut and thick features are his most noticeable features because of which Naruto refers to him as "Bushier Brow Sensei." He is seen wearing a green jumpsuit, orange striped leg warmers, and the Konoha jacket. He wears his forehead protector as a belt.
His appearance has not changed even once from the start of the series till the end. Even as a genin he wore the green jumpsuit and a scarf around his neck. As a kid, his hair used to reach to his shoulders. After the Fourth Great Shinobi War, his right leg is put in a cast due to his fight with Madara Uchiha and he's bound to a wheelchair.
Even though he was a late bloomer, Guy always had the diligence and perseverance to achieve his goals. Since his Ninjutsu and Genjutsu were weak, he focused on honing his Taijutsu skills. His fighting skills were so good that he didn't need to rely on any weapon at all.
He had gotten himself uses to having the peak of his physical strength by always challenging himself with various kinds of training. Without even having chakra enhancement, Guy could easily put opponents through rock walls, launch them to far away distances, etc. His stamina and recovery rate lets him last in battles for long periods.
Despite not performing ninjutsu or Genjutsu regularly, Guy was capable of summoning tortoises. He has the fire and the lightning nature of chakra, and is also quite proficient in using various ninja tools, and has helped Tenten in using them too.
There are other special abilities that are used by Might Guy which are:
This was taught to Guy by his father and the user can use all Eight of the inner gates. The mastery of this technique allows him to open up to seven gates without opening the previous ones. Each gate gives him different physical and mental attributes and uses them to their full potential. They also enhance his chakra abilities by large amounts. Though this technique has its perks, the disadvantage is that the more gates he opens and the longer he maintains them, it could eventually cause his death.
He can use this technique when he enters the first and third gates respectively. He overwhelms the opponents with this technique in the form of punches.
When he enters the sixth gate Guy can use this technique. He produces a series of rapid punches which ignite his hand due to air friction.
After entering the seventh gate Guy uses this one-hit kill move. In this, he uses the concentrated air pressure that expands on contact with his opponents.
When he enters the eighth gate Guy can use this technique. It is a long-distance move in which he uses his punches as powerful shockwaves of air.
Might Guy is just not just seen in the series but he also makes his appearance in the movies too.
In this movie Guy is part of one of Konoha's attack forces. They are sent to fight against Moryo's army of stone warriors. While they kept them busy, Naruto and his team were able to help Shion seal Moryo.
In this movie Might Guy just makes a tiny appearance that took place twenty years ago. During that time Guy and Kakashi with their peers were in line waiting for the grand opening of Ichiraku Ramen.
In this movie when Naruto is sent to the Genjutsu World, he meets that world's Might Guy who is the total opposite of our original Might guy; he is a depressed, unenergetic middle-aged shinobi who thinks that he's old and past his prime.
Might Guy has made an appearance in the following video games:
