Ryokan in Naruto

Very little is known about his childhood as Ryokan’s past is still shrouded in mystery. Due to his limited appearances in the series, close to nothing is known about his lineage or background other than the fact that he is a medical ninja belonging to the Hidden Sand Village.

Ryokan first appeared in the Kazekage Rescue Mission Arc. He was first seen treating Kankuro after he was retrieved from the desert in a bad shape. He and Sekka attempted to heal Kankuro when he was found in the desert after being poisoned by Sasori of the Red Sand, a member of the infamous criminal organization, the Akatsuki. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. Later, he helped Sakura Haruno (the pupil of Tsunade Senju, the Fifth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village) treat Kankuro when she had successfully extracted the toxin and made an antidote for the poison.

Ryokan has not appeared since this incident; thus, his absence makes it impossible to say whether he is dead or alive. He is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information surfaces indicating otherwise.

Due to his lack of appearance in the series and any related information, almost nothing is known about Ryokan’s personality. From his status and limited appearance, it can be deduced that when he is unable to assist his comrades, Ryokan appears to become very frustrated. He felt guilty for not being able to save Kankuro, who was suffering and would eventually succumb to the poison.

Ryokan has narrow eyebrows and dark eyes. His hair is not visible on account of his outfit. He sports what appears to be the standard outfit for a medical ninja in the Village Hidden in the Sand- a red tunic with a white poncho-like collar that he wears along with a ghutrah and white forehead protection, combined with traditional shinobi sandals.

Ryokan is a skilled medical ninja hailing from the Hidden Sand Village and is supposedly quite dependable. Although he is quite skilled in his craft, he was unable to help Kankuro when he was affected by poison.

As a trained medical ninja, he possessed great chakra control and is knowledgeable of various medical practices, but his skills seemed inferior to Sakura Haruno, a kunoichi of the Hidden Leaf Village trained by none other than Tsunade Senju, the Fifth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.
