When Yome and Temari were young, Sen used to play with them. Sen and Yome, who were still in the Academy, stood in the background as their classmates made fun of and insulted Shira. Shira continued to practice taijutsu despite being prohibited from enrolling in the Academy due to his lack of skill in ninjutsu and genjutsu. When Gaara, the new Fifth Kazekage, changed the rules to allow Shira to enter the Academy, Sen and Yome began to admire the young man and were pleased for him.
Later, Sen joined Team Shira alongside Shira and Yome and participated in the Chunin Exams. Sen and her teammates were divided into different rooms for the first part of the exam. Room two was allotted to Sen. Shikamaru Nara, the first exam proctor, then reviewed the purpose of the written test on a monitor after everyone had settled in. Her team won the first round because their total score was exactly 100 points as it should have been and because they left the bonus question blank.
A preliminary round had to be organized to reduce the number of competitors. Only the first 30 teams to reach Suna at the end of the race in the first round would advance to the second round. In the end, her squad placed among the top 30 teams.
The following day, Temari, the second exam proctor, announced the beginning of the second round, which was taking place in the Demon Desert. Sen carried out Shira's instructions during the second exam to make sure all the Suna-nin moved on to the following stage. She started putting up her genjutsu around the area to distract enemy ninjas from their teammates. Once Team Guy was confronted, they pushed them into the Sand Waterfall Pit. They then consulted with the other Suna-nin about how to deal with the other enemy teams.
However, Sen's crew was betrayed by the other Suna-nin, who saw them as weak and as easy pickings. Sen was robbed of her supporters and left vulnerable, but Team Guy swiftly came to their aid, forcing the enemy to escape. She inquired how the Konoha-nin managed to escape the pit, and Tenten simply said that she conjured a huge ladder. Sen also informs Team Guy that Team Shira had only recently turned shinobi, which raises questions about Team Shira's goals.
Lee went after the other Suna-nin furiously to force them to say sorry when Team Guy found the reason for their betrayal. Shira insisted that his dislike of them was due to the person he is at the moment; she was determined for him to become a man of respect in the future. Shira surrendered his scroll to one of the Suna-nin teams after Lee and his team concurred because they had already defeated Shira's squad officially.
Shira gladly accepts Lee's challenge after the other Suna-nin has left. Sen stood with the others and watched as her teammate lost. Shira informs everyone that he intends to join a special force on the northern border when the Chunin Exams are completed to be with his sick parents.
Sen's team ultimately chose to accept defeat and be happy to have advanced this far as the exam drew close and they had not yet discovered a matching set of scrolls. Matsuri then came over to them, wanting to fight Shira since she was a former pupil and a fellow supporter of Gaara. He accepted willingly and ultimately won. Sen and her group then made their way to the main building to wait for the end of the second exam.
Due to controversy occurring in the second exam, the Chunin Exams had to end before the start of the finals. Gaara instead opted to let each participant's village chief decide whether or not to advance them after receiving a report on their performance. Sen bid Shira goodbye as Shira later carried out his initial goal and joined the special forces. Sen continued to make fun of Yome about her crush on Shira while Yome joined up. Sen expressed her hope for Shira and Yome's safety after seeing her two teammates leave.
Sen is a calm, caring person who genuinely cares about her teammates. She maintains her reputation as a careful person by avoiding contact with her enemies until they are left weak.
She is dressed in a red tube dress with a blue-purple belt, half gloves, shin guards, and black shinobi sandals over a mesh armor body suit. Two smaller white fans with fur on them are also in her possession. Sen has sandy-brown hair pulled back in a ponytail with two braided strands and two strands of hair on either side of her face. She also has brown eyes with black pupils. She wears her forehead protector across her head as most shinobi do.
Sen is a skilled genjutsu user who can constantly trap opponents without them realizing it. One of her strategies involves trapping several enemies at once with cactus pollen, making them mentally travel the same area repeatedly. She was also skilled in using her fans in combat.
The name of the Fan which Sen uses is called Tessen.
Sen teases Yome for liking Shira and joining Team Shira because of him.
(To Team Guy) "Don't hold it against us that we have an advantage"
(To Team Guy) "I don't know about that. I'm very cautious. So I wonder what it means… that I appeared before you?"
