Saiken and the tailed beasts first came into being when Hagoromo Otsutsuki used his Creation of all Things Techniques to divide the Ten-Tails chakra into nine separate bodies and gave each of them names. The Sage of Six Paths then explained to the beasts that there was a link between them which will exist even if they're separated.
He even told them that one day they all would assemble together and someone would emerge and show them their true power.
During the First Shinobi War, Hashirama Senju captured eight of the tailed beasts and sold Saiken and Isobu to Kirigakure during the Five Kage Summit, as a sign of friendship and to ensure a balance of power amongst their newly formed villages. Saiken then ended up being sealed inside Utakata decades later. Harusame tried to remove him from Utakata, as he wanted to prevent him becoming the village's living weapon.
However, Utakata wasn't aware of the real reason why his master did this and was under the impression that his master tried to kill him. This failed removal resulted in Utakata transforming into Saiken and killing Harusame. During the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Saiken appeared with the other tailed beasts except Gyuki and Shukaku when the Ten-Tails looked down on Naruto.
Upon looking at the tailed beasts, the Ten-Tails went on a rampage but the Allied Shinobi Forces managed to pull out the tailed beasts out of Obito and free them. When Madara ran towards them, Shukaku and Gaara made numerous Sand bullets and were able to restrain his movements.
Using the opportunity to attack, the Tailed Beasts each took a swing at their enemy and gave the Sand manipulating duo an opening to use Deserted Layered Imperial Funeral Seal. However, Madara managed to escape with the help of his Susanoo but Naruto, in his Tailed Beast Mode, pinned down Madara so that Saiken and the other tailed beasts could attack him all at once to increase the impact but Madara survived those attacks too.
After getting back his Rinnegan, Madara quickly summoned the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path from Obito's body and used the Rinnegan to repel the tailed beasts. With the tailed beasts being caught off guard, Madara then sealed them back into the demonic Statue.
Not a lot is known about Saiken’s personality and we can see the slug refer to itself in a boastful manner. It speaks in the language of the Osakaben origin. Saiken is also kind and not self-serving and evil as compared to the other tailed beasts.
He even helps Utakata when he wants to save Hotaru and not only that, Saiken doesn't take over Utakata against his own will. Even though it is kind, it can kill for self-preservation as seen when it killed Harusame when he attempted to extract it from Utakata. Saiken also appears to be very energetic.
Saiken is an enormous white, with a light blue tint, bipedal slug with stubby arms, feet and six long tails. It has two prominent optical tentacles which are the eyes and hole-like openings as a mouth. Its entire body is covered with a thick, slimy substance.
As a Tailed Beast, Saiken has massive amounts of chakra and has the ability to share this chakra with others and can create Tailed Beast Ball. Saiken has the ability to emit corrosive substances that can disintegrate its target on contact, into liquid or gas.
The Six-Tails also has a tremendous amount of durability and can withstand anything massive. Saiken has an affinity for Water Release. It can release a sticky, adhesive substance from its mouth which can trap its targets. It can also use Soap Bubble Ninjutsu.
Saiken is playable as Utakata's awakening in Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, and Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4.
