Matsu, when known as Matsumoto, used to work alongside Nishi in the Land of the Moon for a circus, now owned by Michiru Tsuki, the current king of the Land of the Moon. Later, he and Nishi relocated to Konohagakure.
He first debuted in Akatsuki Suppression Mission in the canon series. In the arc, Teuchi, the owner of Ichiraku Ramen, hired Matsu and Nishi when his daughter Ayame went on a vacation to assist him in the shop in her absence. When Naruto Uzumaki comes to Ichiraku Ramen, Matsu serves him but accidentally sticks his finger in Naruto’s bowl of ramen. Teuchi notices the mistake and scolds Matsu for it. Then, Teuchi asked Matsu to prepare a fresh bowl of ramen for Naruto, adding to the agony of a starving Naruto.
Matsu hasn't shown up since these appearances, and his absence makes it impossible to ascertain whether he's dead or alive. Matsu is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information surfaces indicating otherwise.
Matsu never had the chance to interact much in the series and did not have any significant role in the series. He never had an opportunity to showcase his personality. However, he is described as dense-headed, and kind of an idiot.
Matsu is a fair man with short, cropped black hair and black eyes. He has a rope tied around his head and is dressed in a white kimono, with a pair of sandals.

In addition to the Naruto manga, Matsu also appears in Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom.
