Haku was a descendant of the Yuki clan, and an orphan from the Land of Water. Sometime after his parent’s death, he became a shinobi under Zabuza Momochi’s tutelage, and later, teamed up with him to become a mercenary ninja.
Haku and Zabuza left a great impact on Naruto, and their interactions with the driving force of Naruto’s nindo of never abandoning his comrades. Kakashi himself acknowledged that it was because of Haku and Zabuza that Naruto strived to become a strong shinobi and was the hero he is today. Naruto as well acknowledges that Haku and Zabuza had a significant impact on his life and worldwide perspective.

Haku was born in the Land of Water, a region that had recently experienced war at the time. In this war, various sides using shinobi, some of whom had kekkei genkai, fought against one another. After the war concluded, the people were traumatized, and they especially dreaded the shinobi who possessed the kekkei genkai. Due to the abilities of a kekkei genkai, the people started despising and fearing it for bringing a war again in the future.
Haku's father and mother were humble farmers who led quiet lives. They were kind to their child and had a good relationship. Sadly, everything changed when Haku's mother used Ice Release kekkei genkai. Because she wanted their small family's shared love and tranquility to remain forever, she kept this information from her husband. Haku uncovered the ability to control water one day.
She harshly scolded and slapped Haku for showing off his talent, but she quickly offered an emotional apology to him. Haku's father had observed everything from the shadows without their knowledge. He gathered a small mob of villagers when he learned that his wife and kid had a kekkei genkai. He murdered his wife. Then he made an effort to slaughter Haku. But Haku summoned several giant ice spikes with his Ice Release before he could, killing his father and the rest of the villagers.
Haku, left orphaned, was forced to live on the chilly streets and scrape among trash cans for food scraps. At times, he even had to defend himself against stray wild canines. Afterwards, Zabuza Momochi, a man with "the same eyes" as him, confronted him.
Afterwards, Zabuza requested that Haku become his "weapon" or a devoted shinobi for Zabuza. Because of this position's meaning, Haku quickly accepted it, committing the rest of his life to become the best possible tool for Zabuza to use. Haku and Zabuza encountered Kimimaro after leaving the Land of Water. Looking into Kimimaro's eyes, Haku seemed to understand his loneliness and sense of purposelessness. He left Kimimaro alone, though, as Zabuza compelled him to keep going. Zabuza then taught Haku all of his combat skills as well as the ways of the shinobi.
When Kakashi Hatake was going to kill Zabuza, Haku appeared dressed as a hunter-nin and pretended to kill Zabuza. He moved the body somewhere else, helped him get better, and gave Zabuza a week off before facing Kakashi again. He held his soldiers' swords against their necks throughout that period. He warned Gatō about how angry he was and threatened not to touch Zabuza while he recovered. Later, he ran across Naruto, and they talked about their goals in life and the people they cared about.
As Sasuke appeared to have died defending Naruto from a "fatal" blow (in reality, he was put in a death-like state by Haku), both Sasuke and Naruto were exhausted. In a rage, Naruto summoned the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox power that had been trapped within him. He was able to attack Haku and shatter the mirrors, which caused Haku's mask to fall off. After remembering him from earlier, Naruto recovered consciousness just in time to save himself from killing Haku.
Haku requested that Naruto kill him even though he had been defeated and was no longer helpful to Zabuza. Naruto made an effort to comply if it would please Haku. But before Naruto could act, Haku knew Kakashi was about to kill Zabuza.
He dodged Naruto's assault once more, then walked to Zabuza to use himself as a human shield against Kakashi's attack. He grabbed Kakashi's arm before passing away, hoping his death would aid Zabuza in beating his foe. Zabuza praised him and attempted to kill Kakashi by slicing through his body, but Kakashi was able to avert the attack.
Gatō, who had sent his men to assassinate Zabuza, came after both of Zabuza's arms were hurt and decided to terminate their agreement. Gatō quickly desecrated Haku's body. Zabuza was first unfazed by this, but when Naruto revealed how Haku felt for him, the incident made him cry.
In a last-ditch effort to atone, Zabuza snatched one of Naruto's kunai, proceeded through all the men, and, at the price of his own life, repeatedly stabbed and slashed Gatō. Zabuza requested to be carried to Haku's side as he passed away from the wounds Gatō's men had caused him. He said he wanted to visit Haku and see him again in the afterlife. Ultimately, Kakashi asserted that he had promised to accompany both of them. Haku was afterwards interred close to Zabuza.
Three years later, Haku was reanimated by Kabuto Yakushi in the Fourth Shinobi World War to battle the Allied Shinobi Forces. He recognized that their circumstance was odd since, despite his head being clear, his body was moving on its own.
Haku quickly shielded himself and Zabuza from the explosive tags after being ambushed by the Surprise Attack Division. As Haku discovered the enemy's location in the sky, he used his senbon to build a mirror above them and shoot them to death. He then rejoined the other reincarnated shinobi.
Haku unintentionally stormed the pinned opposition, but Rock Lee stopped him before he could strike the fatal blow. While Zabuza and Kakashi conversed, the latter mentioned that Naruto had developed into a commendable shinobi since they had battled him. Haku joyfully responded that he thought Naruto would only get better.
Haku begged Kakashi to stop them once more as Kabuto wiped their memories, expressing his view that he had failed as Zabuza's instrument because the latter was also dead. As Kakashi rejected this, saying that Zabuza had actually succeeded in exacting revenge on Haku because he genuinely saw Haku as more than just a tool, a grieving Haku gave a silent thanks to Zabuza as the rest of his consciousness vanished. Then, a mindless Haku launched an attack, murdering several shinobi from the Third Division, until he was stopped by Might Guy and Rock Lee.
Haku returned to his mirrors as the swordsmen started their silent carnage on the battlefield enveloped in mist after calling the previous generation of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist to it. Later, Kabuto used Haku to stop Kakashi's attempt to take down Zabuza, mirroring how he had stopped Kakashi during their first confrontation. Then, with Haku stabbed, he held Kakashi still so Zabuza could attack, bisecting him in the process. Ensui Nara rendered Haku helpless, allowing Maki to defeat Zabuza and bind and seal them both.
As the Impure World Reincarnation technique was released and Haku's soul was exiled to the hereafter, a light appeared to surround his imprisoned body.
Haku was a kind-hearted, obedient, and devoted shinobi who believed that people become strong when they have someone they truly wish to protect. Despite his incredible fighting skills and extraordinary powers, Haku loathed having to kill people to serve as a tool and tried to avoid doing it whenever possible. When confronted with an opponent, Haku tried to avoid causing significant damage.
At times, his dedication to Zabuza seemed equivalent to seeing the man as a father, as evidenced by the boy's joyful sobbing after discovering from Kakashi how much Zabuza genuinely cared for him. Zabuza believed that despite using Haku's actions as his instrument, Haku could flourish in paradise. At the same time, he was sentenced to hell because of his pure, kind-hearted nature. He was purely devoted to Zabuza to the extent that he couldn't tolerate someone disrespecting him.
When he was younger, Haku wore a dark choker, an excessively huge, torn, light-brown shirt hanging off his shoulders, and ripped knee-length leggings. Later, when Zabuza took him in, he was shown wearing a short blue kimono with light blue edging and a dark grey split skirt, identical to the outfits he had worn as a shinobi and as a young child while his parents were still alive.
Haku, when he turned 15, had a feminine appearance. He had huge, dark-brown eyes, pale skin, long black hair, and a slim build.
Haku typically wore pinstriped clothing that ended at his knees, as befitted a Kirigakure shinobi. Over this, he wore a green haori with white trimmings, and around his waist, he double-wrapped a brown sash with a fringed trail. He also had blue-green nail varnish on his fingers and toenails, as well as light-brown combat sandals with straps that matched the color of his kimono.
Haku had long hair pulled back in a white bun holder and two loose strands that framed his face that ended with metal hair cuffs. Haku also wore a black forehead shield bearing Kirigakure's emblem. He used a white hunter-nin mask over his forehead protector when engaged in combat or moving stealthily. It had tiny, curved eyeholes, a red wavy design in place of the mouth, and the Kirigakure emblem carved on the top.
When Haku wasn't engaged in combat, he wore his long hair loose and a pink, sleeveless kimono that reached his ankles. It had faint red edging and was embellished with tiny plum swirls. He donned a pair of light brown sandals with dark straps around his feet and a plain white obi around his waist tied in a bow. A choker of a dark color was also around his neck.
His sclera went black when he was reanimated.
Haku was a bright individual who had been trained by Zabuza himself. He was a powerful and dangerous ninja for his age. Zabuza claimed that Haku had such extraordinary talent that, in some respects, he was now more dangerous than he himself was.
Zabuza's earlier Anbu training had given Haku a thorough understanding of human physiology. His knowledge was so extensive that he could incapacitate an opponent with acupuncture by hitting an exact location on the body with a senbon, resulting in immediate death or the appearance of such for a brief period.
Haku was also incredibly perceptive, as evidenced by his remarkable observational and analytical skills, which allowed him to rapidly identify a flaw in an opponent's method or approach. Haku was also quite knowledgeable about herbalism because he frequently collected plants to use as medicine.
Haku's most impressive ability was using water and wind-nature chakra to create Ice Release. The Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals, which surround a target with mirrors and enabled Haku to travel between them and attack from them even if his opponent was in the sky, is one of the extraordinary techniques he was able to use because of his mastery of ice.
As Haku was going to be slain by his father, he was seen to be able to unleash huge spikes formed of ice. He could build an ice dome that could block several explosive tags simultaneously as a form of defense. Also, Haku might impact the weather, bringing in isolated snowfall. His Thousand Flying Water Needles of Death, which uses his water nature to focus nearby water into needles and attack adversaries from all sides, is only one example of how he may use his two elements separately.
Haku's incredible speed was one of his most specific combat abilities. But, when Haku uses his Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals, his speed soars to even great heights, giving the impression that he is actually in every mirror at once despite only being moving between them at breakneck speeds. Only a Sharingan bearer could keep up with his incredible speed.
Haku, like Zabuza, was an expert user of the Silent Killing, able to kill targets in complete darkness and occasionally working in perfect harmony with his teacher. Haku was powerful enough to carry Zabuza's body without losing any speed, and Haku displayed appreciable taijutsu talent.
Even Kakashi was astounded by Haku's prowess in performing hand seals with just one hand. He showed off having a solid chakra after being revived, which was evident to the naked eye.
"When a person… has something important they want to protect… that's when they can become truly strong."
"This bridge is where our dreams are tied together. The place where we fight. Me, for my dreams. You, for your dreams. Please don't resent me."
"I want to protect the person important to me… I want to work for that person. I want to fight for that person. I want to make that person's dream come true… That is my dream."
"Can you understand? Not having a dream… not being needed by anyone… The pain of merely being alive."
"I realized the most painful thing…… That in this world… my existence was not needed."
