Might Duy was a Konohagakure shinobi, and father of Might Guy. He was often referred to as the “Eternal Genin”. Though he remained a genin himself for his entire life, Might Duy always encouraged his son to have his own self-rule of never giving up, and keep the spirit of youth alive.
Duy’s sacrifice left a huge impact on Guy, who later went on to carry his father’s philosophy of preserving one’s youth and sticking with a cause. Guy developed a similar bond with his student, Rock Lee, as he did with his father but in reversed roles. Eventually, Rock Lee would teach his own son, Metal Lee Might Duy’s philosophy.

Duy spent his entire professional life as a genin, for which was looked down upon and earned the nickname, “Eternal Genin.” Despite this, Duy managed to master the user of all Eight Gates after twenty years of diligent practice. Guy, his son who he later had, made little progress as a shinobi and failed his first try to get into the Academy.
Duy scolded him for lacking faith when he started to feel sorry for himself, and eventually showed Guy how to use the Eight Gates.
One day outside the Academy, he and Guy ran into Sakumo Hatake and his son, Kakashi. Sakumo Hatake anticipated that their sons would be classmates in the Academy but was shocked to find out that Guy had failed the Entrance Exam.
At some point, Guy rescued his son and his teammates, Ebisu and Genma Shiranui from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, who had attacked the group. When Guy said that he was no match for the Kirigakure-nin, Duy reminded his son that he still had the Eight Gates technique and would use it under the very same condition he had devised, i.e. to protect someone important to him.
Duy’s ultimate talent took down four members of the famous group, namely, Jinin Akebino, Kushimaru, Jinpachi Munashi, and Hiramekarei’s wielder.
Duy was a confident and cheerful man as like his son, he was enthusiastic and frequently adopted the “nice guy” attitude to express gratitude to people who would otherwise have criticized him for his actions on low rank. He was adamant that one needed to have self-confidence in order to do anything.
He also held the opinion that a person's youth only ends when they abandon their beliefs and joy. Duy had a close bond with his kid whom he continuously encouraged to do his best and cheered him up when he felt low. This is similar to the bond Guy had with Rock Lee, one of his disciples. He was a devoted man who did not fear battling a tough enemy in order to protect Guy.
Duy was a tall, slim man with thick eyebrows, high cheekbones, and significant body hair on his wrists and forearms. He also had a rather bulbous nose. His hair was cut in bowl shape and slightly lifted to his right. Additionally, he had a bristly mustache, a little goatee, and stubble for the remaining or his beard. He wore a yellow scarf around his neck, orange stiles leg warmers, and a green jumpsuit.
Might Duy was unable to use either ninjutsu or genjutsu, and he also failed easy missions. It was discovered the reason for his poor performance is that he had been secretly working in the night to master the Eight Gates, which had an unfavorable outcome of making the user weaker for an extended period of time.
Even though he was a genin rank shinobi, Duy had excellent physical strength and taijutsu skill, which allowed him to open all the Eight Gates, although he spent twenty years mastering it.
Duy was proficient enough in his skills to teach his son kenjutsu and subsequently use it to repel the entire Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and kill four of its members, admitting it to be his lone accomplishment.
(To Guy) “You know what a true victory is? It’s not beating someone strong. It’s being able to protect something important to you.”
