The Four Emperors of the Sea are a group of four pirates who make up ‘The Great Power’. The current group consists of Red-Haired Shanks, Blackbeard, Straw Hat Luffy, and Buggy the Star Clown. Together these people rule over specific territories of the New World.
The Four Emperors provide protection to all who reside within their territories, keeping the borders safe from any faction that may wish to invade them.

Charlotte Linlin, aka Big mom, is known to be one of the powerful antagonists in One Piece and she is a part of one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. With her power, she was able to build Totto Land with 35 other islands surrounding it. She was a member of the Rock Pirates and alongside Whitebeard, Kaido and Shiki, they formed the deadliest pirate band.
As a child, Big Mom already had a bounty of over 500 million berries and she became a threat to the government. She possesses the power of the Soul Soul devil fruit which gives her the power to absorb as much of a person's lifespan as she wishes. She also has a vast network of information and has information on everyone and everything.

Kaido is the Governor General of the Beast Pirates and he possesses the most powerful devil fruit which is the Fish Fish fruit, model Azure Dragon. This allows him to transform into a dragon and destroy towns and cities in a matter of mere seconds. Kaido can also use all three types of haki and can use the Conqueror's Haki as a coat on his weapons. He has great endurance due to him having faces multiple arrests, torture over the course of his life. He is referred to as the 'Strongest Creature in the World'. It took a lot of generations of Pirates to finally defeat him.

Edward Newgate, aka Whitebeard, was the captain for the Whitebeard Pirates. He possessed the Quake Quake Devil fruit which is considered as the strongest Paramecia type. He is also known as the 'Strongest Man in the World' and 'Man Closest to the One Piece'. He is also seen as an equal to the Pirate King Gol D. Roger. People said that Whitebeard had the power to end the world as he had the ability to tilt the ocean, create tsunamis and fight thousands of people at once. He can also use all three types of haki. He died during the Marineford war and it was considered one of the saddest death in the series.

Buggy was given the title of the Emperor as he managed to defeat two out of the four Emperors. He is the captain of Buggy Pirates, leader of the dispatch organization 'Buggy's delivery' and a former Warlord. The way Buggy became an Emperor is unknown. Buggy the Clown ate the Bara Bara fruit which gave him the ability to Strachan his body parts at will. Even though Buggy is portrayed as a weak and comedic character, he is infatuated, strong and can also be dangerous if needed to be.

Monkey D. Luffy became an Emperor quite recently. He awakened the most powerful devil fruit that is the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit. Without using haki, he had great immunity to defend himself from blunt force which are caused by combat, weapons and even cannonballs etc. He can increase the size of his fist to the size of an island and because his body is rubber, he is immune to even powerful storms or thunder from the sky. Luffy is also one of the few people who can use all three types of haki. He is able to fight Kaido and even defeated him along with the help he received from his comrades.

Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard, is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. He possesses two devil fruits with one being the Yami Yami and the other being the Quake Quake fruit. He is the only known person to have two devil fruits which seemed impossible to people. With his Dark Dark devil fruit, he can nullify other devil fruit while with the Quake Quake fruit he can tilt the land and sea. He can also use the Armament and Observation Hakis which shows that he totally doesn't rely on his devil fruits.

Shanks is the captain of the Red Hair Pirates and the only Emperor to be there from the former batch. A very little is known about Shanks’ goals, his character and even his abilities as they haven't been shown in their true form. The only time his ability was seen was when he used the Conqueror's haki to scare the Sea King that ate his arm when he saved Luffy as a child. He is also one of the strongest swordsmen as he was able to stop Akainu’s attack with his sword and the aftermath of that attack resulted in the sky to split.
