Luffy accidentally ate the Gomu Gomu no devil fruit when he was 7 and it turned his body into rubber. Luffy got his straw hat from Shanks, which he gave to him as a gift, and said that they will meet each other again at sea. He is the son of the Revolutionary Army Lead Monkey D. Dragon and the grandson of the Marine Admiral Monkey D. Garp. His grandad, father, brother; Portgas D. Ace and he are a few of the people who canary the Will of D. Luffy has fought a lot of people over the course of the anime starting from pirates of the East Blue to even the Four Emperors of the Grand Line. Luffy has accomplished a lot of things and this has given him a nickname as a ‘Dangerous Future Element’.

Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro was the first crew member that Luffy recruited. He was famously known as 'Pirate Hunter Zoro' as his profession before becoming a part of the Straw Hats crew was that of a bounty hunter. Zoro was born in the East Blue and trained his whole life in a dojo where he learnt all about using swords. Currently Zoro is a master of the Three Sword Style, a technique that was made in his village but he dreams of becoming one of the strongest swordsmen in the world. Zoro is known to get lost easily and is really bad with directions, this can be seen when there is always one member of the crew constantly trying to find out where he is.

After Zoro the next member to join the Straw Hats crew was Nami, who is the navigator of the ship. She is the adopted child of Bell-mere. Before joining the Straw Hats, she was a part of the Arlong Pirates and joined the Straw Hats at first so that she could actually rob them. She later on saw how the Straw Hats fought for her against Arlong and decided that she should join the crew for good. She dreams of making a map of the entire world. She is known for her cat burglary techniques and can pull them off with ease.

Usopp

Usopp is the third member to join the Straw Hats crew, who is the sniper of the crew. Usopp temporarily left the crew during the Water Seven arc and he rejoined the crew after Enies Lobby. He was born in the Syrup village and was the captain of his own crew the 'Usopp Pirates' and is one of Kaya's closest friend. He worked with Luffy and his crew to defeat the Black Cat Pirates who tried to hurt Kaya. Usopp is known for his cowardice and is also known to lie a lot to get his way out. Despite this he is quite the sharp shooter and he dreams to become a great warrior just like his father Yasopp.

Sanji

All about Sanji

Sanji is the member to join the Straw Hats crew, who is the cook of the crew. His full name is Vinsmoke Sanji, he joined the crew after the battle that took place in the Baratie. Even though he was born in the royal Vinsmoke family, Sanji disowned them and ran away. He encountered Zeff, the chef and founder of Baratie who took him under his wing and taught him how to cook. Sanji is known as the ladies man and never misses an opportunity to flirt with any beautiful girl that he sees, which can be seen quite evidently in the series. He dreams of finding the All Blue which is every chef's paradise.

Tony Tony Chopper

Tony Chopper is the fifth member to join the Straw Hats crew, he is the doctor of the crew. He is also known as 'Cotton Candy Lover Chopper'. He was a part of the Foxy Pirates temporarily as the Straw Hats had lost a competition but they won him back later on during the Long Ring Land arc. Chopper is the reindeer of the series who ate the Hito Hito Devil fruit which grants him the power to transform into a human at will. He worked with Dr. Kureha and learnt everything related to medicine. His dream is to become a doctor that can cure any disease.

Nico Robin

Nico Robin is the sixth member to join the Straw Hats crew, she is the archeologist of the crew. She is known as the 'Devil Child' due to the fact that her mother researched the Blank Era. She left the crew temporarily as she thought that she'll bring them harm during Enies Lobby but rejoined them in Water 7. When she was just a child, Robin ate the Hana Hana Devil fruit which gave her the ability to reproduce any of her body parts on any surface at will. When Ohara was destroyed, she was the only survivor left and is also the only one in the whole world who can read the Poneglyphs. She used to be a part of Baroque works but then left them after they got destroyed and joined the Straw Hats. Nico Robin is the member who Luffy didn't invite and she just joined them as her dream is to find the Rio Poneglyph and know the real history of the world, especially the Blank Era.

Franky

Franky is the seventh member to join the Straw Hats crew and he is the mechanic of the crew. He built the Thousand Sunny for the Straw Hats after the Going Merry was destroyed. His real name is Cutty Flam but he likes to go by Franky. He was abandoned by his own family, so he became a member of Tom's workers. Once while working he was severely injured, this required him to augment some parts of his body and eventually became a cyborg. He is a really character and is quite likable by everyone. He takes pride in whatever he makes and does quality work. His dream is to build a ship and circumnavigate the world with it and the ship turned out to be the Thousand Sunny.

Brook

Brook is the eight member to join the Straw Hats crew, he is the musician of the crew. He is known as the "Soul King'. He was originally the member of the Rumbar Pirates but he got resurrected because he had eaten the Yomi Yomi Devil fruits which granted him the power to return to life after death only once. After extensive training, Brook could take control of others too and he joined the Straw Hats crew after the Thriller Bark arc. He dreams of reuniting with Laboon at Reverse Mountain. He is really a jovial character who loves to entertain others. Brook is really sensitive about his hair and loves it a lot.

Jinbe

Jinbe is the last member to join the Straw Hats crew. He officially joined the crew during the Wano arc even though Luffy had asked him to be part of the crew way long before. Jinbei is known as the 'Knight of the Sea'. Jinbe is like a whale Shark and is a master of Fish Man Karate. He was also one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Before joining the crew, Jinbe was already friends with Luffy and they had formed an alliance with each other to prevent the New Fish Man coup d'etat from happening.
