Apart from manga chapters and their anime adaptation, movies are a major and significant part of the One Piece franchise. The One Piece theatrical movies are produced and released by the famous studio, Toei Animation, which is also responsible for the anime.
There are a total of 15 One Piece movies so far, with its newest addition, One Piece Film: Red. Mostly the movies follow the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy along with his pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, and are non-canon without any involvement of Eiichiro Oda, the writer and illustrator of the One Piece manga. Unlike other movies of the franchise, Oda is involved in the production and contributes to the storylines of One Piece Film: Strong World, One Piece Film: Z, One Piece Film: Gold, and One Piece Film: Red. These four movies carry the subtitle, One Piece Film.
Most of the movies have most of the same cast of characters as the anime, with stand-alone storylines. Unlike these movies, Episode of Arabasta: The Desert Princess and the Pirates and Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura are adapted directly from One Piece manga chapters.
