Izou in One Piece

Past

Izou and Kikunojo were born in Wano Country and they were raised in a dancing school that their family owned, but it was torn apart when their father got arrested. After that, they had to survive on the street in Ringo. When Kozuki Oden came to Ringo, he gave them food and they joined him. After Oden became the Daimyo, Izou became his retainer and trained to become a warrior.

When the Whitebeard crew decided to depart Wano at night in order to prevent Oden from joining them, Oden followed them silently. Izou followed Oden since he was aware of his strategy in advance. Before Whitebeard agreed to allow Oden to join the crew, he was tied up on the ship. It was found out that Inuarashi and Nekomamushi had snuck on the ship as well after waiting for Oden. Izou was seen having a good time with the crew after their many adventures together. Kozuki Momonosuke was born after two years, and Oden received a bounty. Izou begged Oden to go back to Wano for the sake of his son and wife, but Oden was adamant about carrying on with his adventures.

After a while, Oden made the decision to accompany Gol D. Roger on his last voyage. Izou chose to wait with Inuarashi and Nekomamushi for Oden to return since he didn't want to go with Oden and preferred sailing with the Whitebeard Pirates. After a few years, the Whitebeard Pirates found out about Oden’s death. Izou became the 16th Division's commander and Izou officiated over the sake cup ceremony that served as Ace's official induction into the Whitebeard Pirates. Whitebeard refused Ace’s request to start a war with Kaidou in order to free Wano Country and Izou said that when Whitebeard granted his request, he would join Ace.

Marineford Arc

Izou accompanied the rest of Whitebeard's fleet and their subordinate crews to rescue Portgas D. Ace when it became known that he would be publicly executed at Marineford. When they reached the Marineford, they engaged in a battle to free Ace. Later, he and his subordinates engaged the Marines assembled in the square in combat. The pirates cheered as Luffy freed Ace from the cuffs. The pirates reluctantly obeyed Whitebeard's last command as he issued it. Admiral Akainu labeled Whitebeard a failure just as the pirates were preparing to leave with Ace. Izou tried to get Ace to forget about Akainu but was unsuccessful as Ace swiftly turned around. Ace was killed by Akainu, who subsequently went after Luffy.

Izou grieved at how the war ended and departed the battlefield when Shanks and Sengoku arrived to announce the end of the war. In the New World, Izou and the rest of the crew attended Whitebeard and Ace's funeral.

Wano Country Arc

Izou, Nekomamushi, and Marco all left the Raid on Onigashima and arrived back in Wano Country. Izou met up with Kikunojo near the back entrance of Onigashima, where he then joined Nekomamushi, Marco, and others of the Scabbards. Kanjuro and a group of Beasts Pirates attacked the party after Marco left to investigate a shadow he noticed at sea. The others engaged the other enemies while Kikunojo and Kanjuro engaged in combat. Izou reunited with Kin'emon and Denjiro after Kanjuro and the Beasts Pirates were defeated.

After fighting their way to the Performance Stage, Izou and the Scabbards stormed inside Kaidou's castle and started a full-blown attack on the All-Stars and Kaidou. Izou's group grabbed hold of Kaidou as he flew to the roof of the Skull Dome in his dragon form as the alliance showed themselves and attacked the Beasts Pirates. They planned to battle Kaidou on the roof with the help of the Mink Tribe. As the fight went on, Kaidou started to overpower Izou and the Scabbards and eventually left them helpless.

Later, Trafalgar Law, Big Mom, Eustass Kid, Killer, Roronoa Zoro, Luffy, and others showed up on the roof. Law transferred Izou and the Scabbards to a secure location per Luffy's request. They eventually recovered, but the enigmatic person had already vanished. They spotted a man who looked to be Oden before they exited the treasure chamber. When the Scabbards encountered Beasts Pirates All-Star Jack while searching for Kanjuro, Inuarashi stayed behind to fight him. Izou asked how she was handling her severed limb when Kikunojo requested that Kin'emon leave Kanjuro to her.

After breaking away from the gang, Sanji was carrying an unconscious Roronoa Zoro when Izou and Kawamatsu bumped into him and the four of them proceeded to the Live Floor. Izou warned that the defeat of Luffy would damage the spirit of the Wano troops, and the gang arrived at the Live Floor to hear the news. Usopp, Kikunojo, and Kin'emon were rescued by Izou from a band of Beasts Pirates just in time. Izou urged Kikunojo to concentrate on her own survival and directed Usopp to transport the two injured Scabbards away when she tried to talk to her brother.

Izou went to the Basement Floor after killing the Beasts Pirates and sustaining several wounds, when he came upon CP0. In their pursuit of the Straw Hats, the agents were prepared to disregard the Whitebeard pirate's presence, but Izou wouldn't let them. Izou battled the two agents despite the fact that they were outnumbered and was ultimately killed

Legacy

After the Raid on Onigashima, Kin’emon decided to build a temple in Ringo that honored Izou along with Oden.

Izou is very loyal to the Whitebeard Pirates and is willing to give his life for them. He is also very loyal and close to Kozuki Oden after he took him and his sister in. Even after his death, Izou is still very loyal to Oden. He also values a glorious and meaningful death in battles and is ready to give it his all during fights.

Izou cross-dresses and wears a pink and purple kimono. He had a pale complexion and tied his hair like a geisha. He carries a Japanese light-red indument that he tied around his waist. After the timeskip, he had a small scar over his right eye, and his hair was longer. He is seen wearing a red, pink, and white kimono with a Whitebeard’s Jolly Roger, an added flame motif and a black cape. Izou also wore black gloves. He has the crest of the Kozuki family tattooed on his back. As a child, he was a dancer and wore a kimono with a diagonal spot design and had the tops of his head shaved. He also carried a pair of fans.

Izou is able to perform traditional dance. He is a great sniper, especially in close battle. He has sharpshooting skills and is both swift and precise and can shoot down multiple enemies in seconds.

Haki

Busoshoku Haki

Izou has the ability to use Busoshoku Haki which he imbues into bullets. These bullets helped him break through Kaido’s tough skin.

Kenbunshoku Haki

Izou also possessed the ability to use Kenbunshoku Haki.

Weapons

Izou is seen using a flintlock pistol and is also seen wielding a sword.

Kikuojo

Izou has only one sibling, Kikunojo. They stayed together to survive on Ringo's streets when their father was arrested and found guilty, and they both joined Kozuki Oden. Kiku worried when Oden, Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, and Izou vanished since she couldn't find her brother and the others while sobbing. Kiku was upbeat when Nekomamushi and Inuarashi later returned to Wano and told her about Izou staying with the Whitebeard Pirates. They got back together during the Onigashima raid for the first time in almost 25 years, and he was happy to see Kikunojo once again. Izou's final wishes for Kiku were for him to win his battle and live another day.

Crew

When Izou joined the crew, he used to be very cold towards Whitebeard when Oden’s life was in danger. Izou's attitude improved once he formally joined the Whitebeard Pirates as he grew close to the group. Izou rose to the position of fifteenth division leader after Oden left. When he was at Marineford, he was ready to save a member of his crew. Izou felt sad when Whitebeard and Ace passed away. Both Marco and Izou were going to Wano with Nekomamushi and the Guardians to join the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance since they were both interested in saving Wano from the Beast Pirates and Kurozumi Orochi. After Izou's tragic death, Marco and Kin'emon decided that Izou should be buried in Ringo so that he might rest in his own country.

Kozuki Oden

Izou was one of Oden's closest friends. Izou accompanied Oden as he looked to set sail with the Whitebeard Pirates. Izou continued to be devoted to Oden even after his death and joined Nekomamushi to help the Straw Hat Pirates and the Nine Red Scabbards in the Raid on Onigashima in an effort to exact revenge for his master's demise.

Nine Red Scabbards

Izou was one of Oden's retainers and eventually came to be known as the Nine Red Scabbards, serving Oden together with the rest of his retainers. Izou built strong bonds with all the scabbards as a result of living together with them and Oden. Izou helped the Scabbards in their attempt to rescue Momonosuke after getting to know about his kidnapping and Kanjuro's treachery and subsequently joined them in their battle with Kaidou.

The World Government and the Marines

Izou was an enemy of the World Government since he was one of Whitebeard's crew commanders and he frequently engaged in battle with the Marines. This even applies to government organizations like Cypher Pol, as Izou was more than eager to engage in combat with CP0 in order to defend the Straw Hat Pirates and even lost his life in the process.

Marshall D Teach

Izou has an immense amount of hatred for Blackbeard. The remaining Whitebeard Pirates launched the Payback War against the Blackbeard Pirates to stop Blackbeard from capturing all of Whitebeard's areas but they failed to prevent it.

Edward Weevil

Izou and the other Whitebeard Pirates saw the former warlord Edward Weevil as an enemy because of his devastating attacks on the remaining members of the Whitebeard Pirates.

Kurozumi Orochi and Kaido

Izou was eager to go back to Wano and confront Kurozumi Orochi and Kaidou, for killing Kozuki Oden. Izou begged Whitebeard for help and raised the idea of engaging in combat with Kaidou to free Wano, but Whitebeard never agreed to this demand and would not let Izou go. Years later, Izou eventually achieved his dream to go back and aid in the freeing of Wano, with Nekomamushi and Marco. After arriving in Onigashima, Izou even fought alongside the Nine Red Scabbards against Kaidou before sending Orochi to find and save Momonosuke.

Kurozumi Kanjuro

Despite the fact that they were close friends and fellow retainers for the Kozuki Family, Kurozumi Kanjuro betrayed them all by spying on them for Orochi and for passing him information. Izou had no remorse or sympathy for the traitor and the fact that he had abducted Momonosuke; he stood by and watched as Kanjuro was killed by Kiku
