Not much of Beckman’s background has been made public. His birth place is somewhere in North Blue and he joined the Red Hair Pirates at some point in history becoming the first mate. The Red Hair Pirates took the Gomu Gomu no Mi thirteen years ago when they raided a World Government ship carrying CP9 agents.
The crew eventually made its way to Foosha Village, where he encountered Monkey D. Luffy, constantly pleading with him to join the crew. He overheard Luffy proclaiming himself a famous pirate as they prepared to depart the island.
When his captain went by, he told him that Luffy would rise to greatness. Then the crew sailed off. Beckman didn’t make many debuts in the series. Like his captain, he briefly appears at most unexpected and dire situations.
Beckman, who serves as the crew's level-headed member, is significantly less outgoing and more laid back than the other members. He is one of the crew members Shanks trusts most. Despite the crew's vivacity, he is a deserving vice-captain who quietly supports them with a deep attitude. He loves women and is a playboy as well.
Beckman occasionally shows amusement at his captain's antics, such as worrying when Luffy is taken or drinking more, even after being significantly drunk. Every time the crew shows up, he is the first to talk. He also appears to be the first to inquire about the crew's circumstances.
Standing at 206 cm tall, Beckman is a tall man. He had long, light brown hair pulled back in a ponytail twelve years ago in Foosha Village (it was black in the anime). His hair is currently medium length, grey, and styled back in the present plot.
The scar on his left temple, which now has an X form, is also rather substantial. He is rarely seen without a cigarette on his lips and his firearm nearby.
He now wears a black, v-neck shirt with three-quarter sleeves (whereas he was previously seen wearing a short-sleeved shirt of a similar colour and design), along with loose trousers (originally of a dark green colour, but currently grey) with numerous pockets, tucked inside his buckled boots.
His attire has mostly stayed the same since he made his debut. His cloak, which has a spiral design, is the only addition to his clothing. He wears a ribbon around his waist, like most other Red Hair Pirates. He fastens his rifle to it like a pistol.
Beckman, the Red Hair Pirates' first mate, is the second-highest-ranking member of the crew after Shanks. Being the senior member of the crew, he has the most experience. He is a fierce combatant with exceptional fighting energy and agility. Admiral Kizaru declined to fight Beckman at the end of the Summit War of Marineford even though the latter had him under threat of gunfire.
Beckman is renowned for his exceptionally high intelligence; he has the highest IQ of East Blue characters. Additionally, Beckman has shown some stealth skills. He is extremely physically strong and agile. Additionally, he is a master in Busoshoku Haki and can impart this kind of Haki onto the bullets of his flintlock gun.
Beckman commands the most respect and authority behind their Chief as the Red Hair Pirates' first mate. He is the person Shanks trusts the most. Beckman is well aware of Shanks' methods of operation and the duties a pirate captain is expected to carry out daily.
After they arrived in Foosha Village, Beckman became friends with Luffy just like the rest of the crew. Like his Captain, he was confident that Luffy would develop into a great pirate. Beckman told his captain that Luffy would become famous one day, and that prediction came true since, like his commander, Luffy is now regarded as one of the Four Emperors. Like the rest of the crew, Luffy holds Beckman in high regard.
In the manga, when he runs into Kizaru at Marineford and warns him not to attack Law's submarine, Kizaru blithely disregards the direct warning and carries out his attack by launching multiple laser beams into the harbour. Beckman responds to this in the manga, but his response is cut from the anime.
