Charlotte Brulee’s History

Charlotte Brulee in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Brulee and Charlotte Broyé are the eighth and ninth daughters of Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom. Brulee had a difficult childhood, as she was targeted by bullies who were later confronted and beaten up by her older brother, Katakuri.

In retaliation, the bullies cut Brulee's face, leaving her with a large scar that she would carry for the rest of her life. Katakuri, feeling responsible for his sister's injury, began covering his mouth to protect his family's honor.

Whole Cake Island Arc

During the events of the Whole Cake Island arc, Brulee played a significant role. When Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, Tony Tony Chopper, and Carrot ventured into the Seducing Woods to find Sanji, Brulee disguised herself as a mirror image of Luffy and engaged in a battle with the real Luffy. As Nami, Chopper, and Carrot tried to escape, Brulee followed them, eventually revealing herself and grabbing Nami.

However, Nami managed to break free from Brulee's grasp using her Clima-Tact. Carrot attempted to attack Brulee, but the latter used her Mira Mira no Mi powers to reflect Carrot's attack back at her. Brulee then trapped Carrot in the Mirro-World, a dimension she can create using mirrors.

Inside the Mirro-World, Brulee informed Nami and Chopper that Big Mom was aware of their movements and had ordered measures to prevent them from reaching Sanji. She also commanded the living trees in the Seducing Woods to subdue the two Straw Hat Pirates.

Meanwhile, Chopper consumed a Rumble Ball and transformed, which fascinated Brulee. She expressed her intention to capture him for her mother. As Chopper fought off the living trees, Nami escaped to find reinforcements. Brulee, using her abilities, created fake versions of Nami, Chopper, Carrot, Sanji, and Charlotte Pudding to distract and mislead Luffy, who was chasing them through the woods.

Brulee successfully captured Chopper inside the Mirro-World and, with the help of homies (animate objects infused with souls), rode Kingbaum to the confrontation between her brother, Charlotte Cracker, and Luffy and Nami. She reverted the animals she had transformed back to their original forms and shattered the mirror behind which Chopper and Carrot were trapped.

When Nami and Pound attempted to flee, Brulee and the homies pursued them. However, when Nami revealed a Vivre Card, which contains a piece of a person's soul, the homies refused to attack her due to sensing Big Mom's presence from the Vivre Card. During the intense battle between Luffy and Cracker, Brulee took an active role in the chaos that unfolded on Whole Cake Island.

Riding on the back of Kingbaum, a giant homie tree, she pursued Nami, who was attempting to escape from her clutches. Brulee revealed that the Straw Hats were not the first members of the Worst Generation to challenge Big Mom's reign. Pirates like Kid, Apoo, Bege, and Urouge had previously attempted to take down the Yonko but failed, with Urouge being the only one to defeat a Sweet Commander before ultimately being defeated by Cracker.

To capture Nami, Brulee created a mirror and emerged from it, intending to trap the Straw Hat navigator inside. However, Pound, a former member of the Charlotte Family, intervened to protect Nami, earning Brulee's enmity. Nami unleashed her Thunderbolt Tempo attack, striking Brulee and causing her to collapse defeated.

In the Mirro-World, Brulee relentlessly pursued Chopper and Carrot with a menacing scythe. Eventually, she managed to catch them and reported their capture to her brother, Mont-d'Or. Taking them to her house, Brulee prepared to submerge Carrot in boiling soup, causing immense terror for the mink. However, it was revealed that Brulee had inadvertently captured a frog transformed into Carrot's likeness.

The real Carrot thwarted Brulee's plans by knocking over Randolph, an ally of the Charlotte Family. Unaware of the deception, Brulee berated Randolph but was caught off guard as Carrot kicked the pot of boiling soup, dousing her and securing her defeat. Subsequently, Chopper and Carrot took Brulee captive as they traversed the Mirro-World in search of their comrades.

Despite their efforts to revive her for guidance, Brulee remained unconscious. Eventually, Carrot revived her through tickling, prompting Chopper and Carrot to interrogate her about reaching the Whole Cake Chateau. Brulee confessed that she had forgotten the way but suggested seeking guidance from the mirrors, swearing revenge on the duo.

As Chopper, Carrot, and their group continued their mission, they encountered Jinbe, who had joined forces with the Sanji Retrieval Team. Brulee was shocked to see Jinbe, considering his presence a betrayal. She learned that Jinbe had escaped the punishment roulette wheel by retracting his request to leave Big Mom's crew.

When Pedro mentioned the roulette's fatal nature, Brulee callously laughed, affirming that no one left Big Mom's crew alive. However, her interruption was swiftly disregarded as the team pressed forward through the Mirro-World.

Later, Chopper's group located and rescued Brook, who had managed to acquire copies of the three poneglyphs from Big Mom's bedroom. Brulee attempted to alert her mother, but she was quickly silenced and restrained by Chopper and his allies. Despite their actions, Jinbe mistakenly included Brulee and Diesel in the headcount of their team during a conversation with Luffy, much to their horror.

Following their capture, Brulee and Diesel were taken to the base of the Fire Tank Pirates, where they were securely tied up. However, due to Bege's fastidiousness, the two captives were cleaned up and provided with fresh clothes. Brulee expressed her outrage upon learning that her sister, Chiffon, was involved in a plot to assassinate Big Mom.

Chiffon reminded Brulee of the mistreatment they had both endured under their mother's rule, leading Brulee to no longer consider Big Mom as family. As Bege discussed his plan to kill Big Mom with Jinbe and the Sanji Retrieval Team, Brulee voiced her objection when she realized they intended to use her Devil Fruit power to escape.

Inwardly, she worried about how she would report back to Big Mom. After the meeting adjourned, Brulee was taken aback when Luffy requested Bege to place a mirror inside the wedding cake. Knowing how much Big Mom anticipated the cake, Brulee was shocked by Luffy's plan to destroy it. Luffy planned to exploit Brulee's power by gathering numerous animals for her to transform into fake versions of himself.

Later, Brulee and Diesel slept alongside the Straw Hat crew members inside Bege's body as the assassination plan unfolded. When the team entered the Mirro-World, preparing to storm the wedding venue, Brulee anticipated the signal to be given. Once the signal was given, the Luffy duplicates created by Brulee were unleashed into the venue, causing Brulee to cry in regret for her inability to defy Luffy's team. As the chaos ensued, Brulee found herself alone with Caesar Clown.

As the conflict intensified, Caesar raced through the Mirro-World with Brulee in tow, desperately pleading to be spared from being used as a pawn against her mother. Upon exiting the Mirro-World, Caesar set up an escape mirror, but Brulee implored him not to let her family discover that she was being manipulated. Caesar reminded her that her Devil Fruit powers were instrumental in creating chaos within the wedding venue.

In a dramatic turn of events, as Big Mom unleashed a powerful scream, Caesar flew in with Brulee and the escape mirror, but the force of Big Mom's scream shattered the mirror, trapping them inside the wedding venue.

Still from the anime.

In the midst of the chaos, Bege transformed into a fortress to save the members of the alliance. As Luffy's group and the Vinsmoke Family sought refuge inside the fortress, Katakuri utilized his abilities to capture Brulee from Caesar's back. Katakuri remarked on how Brulee had been used by her captors, but she defiantly declared herself a victim and urged him to make their enemies pay.

When Caesar and Bege attempted to escape over the venue's wall, Brulee blocked their path by transforming into a double of Caesar, seeking revenge for being used by the alliance. The Big Mom Pirates overwhelmed Luffy, Sanji, and the Vinsmoke Family. However, the Tamatebako, a treasure chest, fell to the base of the Whole Cake Chateau and exploded, causing the castle to collapse.

Brulee watched in terror as her family and their castle fell. After Streusen saved the Big Mom Pirates by turning the castle into cake, Brulee joined some of her siblings as they organized pursuit groups targeting the Straw Hats, the Fire Tank Pirates, and the Vinsmoke Family. Eager for revenge, she willingly followed Katakuri's lead in chasing after Luffy.

However, their plan was interrupted when Big Mom entered a frenzy. Perospero redirected Big Mom's attention towards the Straw Hats, and Brulee listened to Pudding as she devised a plan to satisfy Big Mom's craving. Brulee later gathered with Perospero, Daifuku, Broyé, and 10,000 Chess Soldiers inside the Mirro-World. She reported to Mont-d'Or that her soldiers were ready to be deployed at a moment's notice.

During a confrontation between Luffy and Katakuri on the Thousand Sunny, Luffy grabbed Brulee by the neck while she stood inside the mirror leading to the Straw Hats' ship. She was rendered unconscious as Luffy dragged Katakuri into the Mirro-World. Upon regaining consciousness, Katakuri instructed Brulee to set fire to the Thousand Sunny.

Joined by Mascarpone and Joscarpone, Brulee gleefully discovered another mirror leading to the Sunny. With joy, she watched as Mascarpone and Joscarpone shot flaming arrows through the mirror, preparing to launch an invasion on the Straw Hats' ship. After receiving the news from Perospero that Big Mom had supposedly sunk the ship, Brulee and her siblings were relieved that they no longer had to carry out an invasion.

However, their confusion grew when they observed through a mirror that the Thousand Sunny was not underwater as expected. Their confusion escalated as all the mirrors connecting to the Sunny began shattering one by one.

Meanwhile, as Luffy struggled in his battle against Katakuri, Brulee took pleasure in taunting Luffy about Katakuri's formidable strength. Luffy attempted to strike her, but Katakuri intercepted his punch. Brulee eagerly suggested Katakuri start by targeting Luffy's neck.

Upon overhearing Luffy's conversation with his group and learning about their rendezvous point, Brulee promptly relayed the information to Perospero.

Brulee then contacted Pudding, informing her about the Straw Hats' meeting place and warning her of Oven's ambush at Cacao Island. She emphasized the importance of completing the wedding cake, stating that it was their last hope.

During his retreat from the battle with Katakuri, Luffy stumbled upon Brulee in the Mirro-World. Seizing the opportunity, Luffy seized Brulee and used her powers to escape. They arrived at Nuts Island, where they encountered a rampaging Big Mom. With Brulee in his custody, Luffy called out to Amande, who was nearby. Carrying Brulee, Luffy fled from Big Mom's wrath.

Continuing to utilize Brulee's abilities, Luffy traversed through the Mirro-World, hopping from island to island in an attempt to evade Big Mom's pursuit. Seeking refuge in a building, Brulee was securely bound while Luffy contemplated how to overcome Katakuri.

Brulee's captivity came to an end when Pekoms, inspired by Pedro's sacrifice, captured her with the intention of aiding Luffy's escape. As they approached Luffy's location, Brulee seethed with shock and anger upon learning of Katakuri's defeat. While en route to the mirror leading to Cacao Island, Pekoms shared his plan with Brulee, who informed him about the awaiting army on the other side.

Exiting the Mirro-World, Pekoms shielded himself with Brulee as she desperately cried out for her family's help. However, Oven swiftly attacked Pekoms, causing him to release Brulee from his grasp. After Luffy and Sanji successfully made their escape with the help of Germa 66, Brulee stunned her family and crew by revealing that Luffy had emerged victorious in his battle against Katakuri, leaving them all in shock.

Later on, Brulee provided her allies with anti-Germa bullets, which were used to harm and weaken the Vinsmoke siblings during their confrontation. She then tended to Katakuri's injuries, informing him upon his awakening that the Straw Hat crew had managed to flee from Totto Land, further adding to their dismay.

Germa 66's Ahh... An Emotionless Excursion

Brulee teamed up with Oven to transport the Prisoner Book containing Vinsmoke Niji and Yonji back to Whole Cake Island. Soon after, she reported to Cracker about Ichiji and Reiju's presence in Chocolat Town.

Brulee and Cracker ventured to the island to investigate, but they were unsuccessful in preventing Pudding from being abducted by the Blackbeard Pirates. Additionally, the town and its inhabitants were frozen by Kuzan's powers. Brulee, the sole unfrozen individual, wept in despair as she was unable to rescue Pudding from her captors.

Brulee attended Uta's grand concert on Elegia, which was orchestrated to fulfill Uta's lifelong aspiration of showcasing her talent to a global audience. Brulee was among the spectators who eagerly gathered to witness the momentous event unfold.

Charlotte Brulee’s Personality

Brulee possesses a strong sense of pride and is easily offended when her abilities or appearance are belittled. She was notably displeased when Carrot referred to her as a talking tree and when Luffy called her a branch. Brulee is confident in her own powers and often underestimates her opponents, claiming that she could defeat the Straw Hats effortlessly.

Her pride is further emphasized by her desire to inflict harm on those with attractive faces, fueled by her envy due to the scar on her own face. She takes sadistic pleasure in causing pain and disfigurement, as demonstrated by her intention to boil Carrot alive and her excitement at the prospect of burning her face.

Still from the anime.

Brulee shares her mother's dream of creating a unified paradise where all races coexist. She finds great joy in discovering new creatures, particularly animals. However, her open-mindedness is limited when it comes to non-human beings, as she dismisses minks as mere animals and shows no mercy towards them. Brulee has a narrow perspective on the accomplishments of the Worst Generation, believing their exploits in the first half of the Grand Line to be insignificant.

She holds her family and crew in high regard, displaying arrogance and pride in their abilities. Brulee staunchly believes that no one can succeed against an Emperor like Big Mom, considering it impossible and ridiculing any notion of victory against her. Despite her pride and sadistic tendencies, Brulee also shares her mother's vision of unity among different races.

However, her close-mindedness towards non-humans and her ruthless nature in dealing with enemies highlight her darker side. The defeat of Katakuri and the discovery of Brook's actions served as humbling moments for her, revealing the limits of her pride and underestimation of others. Brulee's loyalty to her mother, Big Mom, is unwavering, and she dutifully carries out her orders to keep Luffy and his group away from Sanji during the events of the Whole Cake Island arc.

Her loyalty also extends to her family, as she willingly follows Katakuri's plans to ambush the Straw Hats on their ship. Brulee holds a deep disdain for traitors, displaying anger towards Jinbe when she discovers him with the Sanji Retrieval Team and questioning Chiffon's involvement in her husband's plot to assassinate their mother. She becomes enraged when Pekoms uses her to assist Luffy in his escape, feeling betrayed by someone she considered an ally.

Despite her loyalty, Brulee is known among her own family for her carelessness and clumsiness, often finding herself easily captured by enemies who exploit her Devil Fruit powers, as seen with Chopper and Luffy. Her arrogance and lack of attention to detail make her vulnerable in such situations.

When faced with helplessness and the potential endangerment of her life, Brulee's cowardice becomes apparent. She becomes terrified at the thought of her mother considering her a traitor and fears for her life. Similarly, when Luffy takes her hostage to escape the Mirro-World, she pleads to Katakuri for salvation. On Nuts Island, when she is discovered, Brulee desperately calls out to Perospero, Amande, and an unhinged Big Mom to save her.

Brulee exhibits trickery and deception, utilizing her Devil Fruit powers to impersonate Luffy and mislead the retrieval team, ultimately separating him from his group. She also manages to capture Carrot within the Mirro-World. However, her perceptiveness is not always sharp, as she fails to notice that the frog transformed into Carrot is not actually speaking and does not realize that the duplicate mink originates from her own Devil Fruit ability.

Brulee is notably susceptible to tickle torture, easily succumbing to Chopper and Carrot's tickling and providing them with the information they seek. Despite her usual cruelty towards enemies, Brulee possesses a kind and caring side. She genuinely loves her family, shedding tears when the Whole Cake Chateau collapses with her family still in it.

Even as a child, she tries to comfort Katakuri, reassuring him not to blame himself for her disfigurement at the hands of his bullies. Brulee tearfully reports Katakuri's defeat at Luffy's hands to her family and crew, ensuring that neither he nor Sanji can escape. However, her concern for Katakuri's well-being outweighs her disappointment in his loss. Brulee holds her brother in high regard and keeps his secret about lying on his back out of respect for him.

In terms of mannerisms, Brulee has a unique laughing style, emitting a distinctive "Wiwwiwwiwwi" sound.

Charlotte Brulee’s Appearance

Brulee possesses a distinct appearance that resembles the archetypal witch. She stands at an imposing height, towering over others and slightly hunched, with a grayish complexion. Her figure is thin and well-endowed, giving her a somewhat eerie and elongated appearance.

Brulee's limbs are notably long, with her legs alone surpassing the overall height of Nami. Her hands feature gnarled fingers with excessively long and sharp nails painted in blue. The defining features of Brulee's face contribute to her witch-like appearance. She has droopy, yellow-eyed irises with long lashes, accentuated by viridian eye shadow and high-arched, black eyebrows that are perpetually furrowed.

Her face is dominated by a large and over-projected reddish hook nose, reminiscent of her mother's, which draws attention. Brulee's mouth is wide, adorned with purple lipstick, and often seen sporting a devilish smile. A distinctive brown scar runs diagonally across her face from right to left, adding to her striking and hag-like visage.

Her lavender hair is divided into two side locks that cascade over her chest, accompanied by four sharp lock-like segments that curve slightly upward along the sides. Brulee's choice of attire includes a creased whitish gown with a frilly scoop neckline and loose, flaring sleeves that show signs of wear and tear. The gown's upper section ends below the waist, featuring a frilled hemline adorned with a horizontal row of red roses.

The lower part of her dress is separate and extends to the ground, also embellished with stitched roses. To complete her ensemble, she wears a sleeveless overcoat in a moss green color, adorned with feathers. During her time in Capone Bege's hideout, Brulee's attire is forcibly changed by the Fire Tank Pirates into a more elegant and clean dress.

It features closer-fitting sleeves, two frilled hemlines, and a light-colored coat with actual sleeves and a fur trim. Her hair is styled into two side wicks. However, after being rescued by Katakuri, she reverts her hair back to its original style with four locks.

In her younger years, Brulee had shorter hair divided into eight locks. Her nose was small, cone-shaped, and of a paler red shade. Her skin had a pale beige-gray tone, and she wore a white short-sleeved dress with floral accents around the neckline.

Charlotte Brulee’s Abilities

Brulee holds a high position as an officer in the Big Mom Pirates and has authority over lower-ranking members. She has been entrusted by Big Mom to prevent the Sanji Retrieval Team from escaping the Seducing Woods, showcasing her power and strategic value.

In terms of combat abilities, Brulee is a formidable fighter, capable of lifting and restraining Nami with ease. Her sharp fingernails are used as weapons, and she possesses fast reflexes, allowing her to dodge attacks and defend against skilled opponents. She also displays endurance, enduring scalding hot soup, and powerful electrical attacks.

In terms of tactical skills, Brulee excels in ambushes, traps, and trickery. She effectively separated Luffy from the Sanji Retrieval Team, surprised Nami by disguising herself as Luffy, and effortlessly trapped Carrot with minimal effort.

During her pursuit of Chopper and Carrot in the Mirro-World, Brulee wields a scythe as a weapon. Furthermore, she appears to possess some medical knowledge, as she tended to Katakuri's wounds after his defeat at the hands of Luffy.

However, despite her perceived strength, Brulee's family members note that she is actually quite clumsy and not as formidable as she believes herself to be. This is evident in her defeats at the hands of Chopper, Carrot, and even Luffy when he captured her while escaping from his fight with Katakuri. Pekoms was also able to easily capture her and hold her hostage.

Physical Abilities

Brulee possesses physical strength, demonstrated by her ability to lift and hold Nami by the neck with one hand. She also utilizes her long and sharp fingernails to slice opponents. She has quick reflexes, allowing her to dodge attacks and defend against fast adversaries like Carrot. Brulee exhibits endurance by enduring scalding from a giant pot of soup and recovering consciousness after being electrocuted.

Devil Fruit

Brulee consumed the Mira Mira no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants her the power to create and manipulate mirrors. Using her mirrors, she can reflect attacks back at her opponents, transform mirrors into portals to the "Mirro-World," and morph herself and others into mirror images of different individuals.

She can create a mirror shield that provides her with absolute defense and reflects an opponent's attacks back at them.

Charlotte Brulee in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

By transforming into a mirror image of a chosen target, Brulee mimics their actions and words perfectly. She can also force her target to reflect on her own actions and words. Additionally, she can transform into a partial reflection, combining her face with another person's body, granting her access to their abilities without fully mimicking their actions.

Brulee can also transform other living beings into reflections, causing chaos and confusion. Her ability to turn mirrors into doorways enables her to access the Mirro-World, her personal pocket dimension. This dimension consists of a tunnel filled with countless mirrors, each connected to its real-world counterpart.

Brulee is considered the only key to the Mirro-World, as, without her, the mirrors within it serve only as reflections. She can use the Mirro-World to aid her allies in strategic positioning by allowing them to travel through the mirrors. On the other hand, she can trap enemies within the Mirro-World, as no one can enter or exit without her consent.

In order to assist Brulee, Big Mom dispatched her half-brother, Cracker, to confront Luffy and Nami, as they posed a threat after defeating Doflamingo.

Brulee is well aware of her mother's ruthless nature, understanding that Big Mom is capable of extreme violence towards her own children if they dare to defy her. This knowledge instilled fear in Brulee, making her apprehensive about being associated with the Fire Tank Pirates' plot to assassinate Big Mom, as she believed it could lead to her own demise.

Regarding her siblings, Brulee maintains a caring relationship with a majority of them. Her maternal half-brother, Charlotte Cracker, is someone she gets along well with. Although annoyed by his presence when he was sent to assist her, they cooperated in battling Luffy and Nami. Whenever Brulee found herself captured by the Straw Hat Pirates, her half-siblings Perospero and Amande swiftly came to her aid upon hearing her call for help.

Furthermore, when Pekoms held Brulee at gunpoint, her half-brother Oven immediately intervened to protect her, showcasing their familial bond. Brulee expressed great distress when her younger half-sister, Pudding, was captured during the Vinsmoke Family's escape.

However, Brulee harbors open hostility towards family traitors, particularly her younger half-sister Chiffon. Chiffon's involvement with Bege in a plot to kill their own mother, Big Mom, has caused Brulee to view her with animosity. Chiffon, who endured abuse from their mother, confessed that her only family consisted of Lola, Bege, and their child Pez.

When Bege's assassination plan failed, Katakuri stepped in to rescue Brulee from further exploitation by their enemies. Grabbing her by the collar, he acknowledged the extent to which she had been used in their adversaries' schemes. In Katakuri's presence, Brulee exhibited fear as she explained that she had been a hostage with no choice, pleading with her brother to eliminate their enemies.

Brulee holds Katakuri's strength in the highest regard, proudly boasting about it to Luffy during their confrontation. She considers Katakuri to be the greatest creation of the Charlotte Family and deeply cares for him. Brulee became emotional and cried when Luffy defeated Katakuri, and she tearfully reported his defeat to their family and crew.

A. Brulee possesses the power of the Mira Mira no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. This allows her to create and manipulate mirrors. She can use mirrors to reflect attacks back at her opponents, turn mirrors into portals to a pocket dimension called the Mirro-World, and transform herself and others into mirror images of different people.
